Alice Feeney has written a cracking twister with His and Hers. Anna Andrews a newsreader and correspondant is sent to cover a murder only to find her ex. DCIJack Harper is investigating. The plot thickens when they discover the victim is someone they both know. A brilliant read. |

His & Hers -by Alice Feeney I really enjoyed this book. I loved the storyline from the first page until the last. It was so well written it really kept me on my toes just wondering what was going to happen next. For me this was the perfect thriller as I didn’t guess the ending! I would most definitely recommend this book to both family and friends. This is the second book I have read by Feeney and I will defo read more in the future. Many thanks to net galley and the author for the opportunity to read this book. |
I absolutely loved how twisty this book is. I found the writing style very engaging and it was hard to put down once I'd started. There was a lot going on which sometimes can be confusing but I really enjoyed seeing how all the plot threads tied together. I liked how the author didn't shy away from getting a bit gory with the murder scenes. I do however hate it when an adorable pet is introduced as I know it never ends well for them in psychological thrillers. The unedited version was a little bit confusing as the killer's narrations weren't given headings so it looked like what they were saying was from Jack and Anna's point of view still. I was halfway through the book before I realised that wasn't the case! I really enjoyed the book and would 100% recommend it |
I enjoyed this book a lot! It was a really good story line that kept me reading and I thought the main characters were done really well. Highly recommended |
Praise for Alice Feeney I'm due to be part of the blog tour for this fantastic book (postponed due to everything that is happening right now) So I feel I need to spread the book love now and tell you just how amazing this novel is so that you feel compelled to pre-order instantly. This woman is a fantastic story teller. I was kept guessing throughout the book, fooled more than once. The narrative is fantastic. It seems that there could be more than 2 sides to a story .... |

This wasn't quite was I was expecting, perhaps I misread the blurb but I was expecting this to be more of a psychological thriller between a couple and the reader being fed lies/truth from both sides. Instead, it's more of a crime thriller with the story told from two opposing point of views of an estranged couple. It's a good concept and the story moves along nicely. There are a few red herrings thrown in throughout, and the ending is rather ominous. I wasn't particularly keen on any of the characters however, and a few things just didn't really add up. Overall, a decent read but best if you leave critical appraisal at the door and not think too much about a lot of the absurdity. |

Wow loved this book and did not see the ending coming at all. I had in my mind that one of the girls was the murderer and then she was killed leading up to who I thought must have been the one. It must be a cutthroat business in tv and that comes across – women vying for superiority. Anna is the main character and is trying to get onto a newreaders slot and manages to do this. Her ex husband Jack is in the Police Force and when the murders start in the town where she grew up they are forced together through circumstances have divorced in tragic circumstances. They are tetchy with each other but eventually come to terms with having to deal with each other and their sadness at the loss of their child. Jack does not trust Anna and feels she is keeping secrets. Priya, Jack’s sidekick in the Police, does not trust either of them and goes out of her way to implicate either of them on the evidence which does not work and she becomes difficult to work with. I loved the characters and felt all 5 teenage friends could have been the one who committed the crimes which shows how well the book was written. Cannot praise this book enough – thank you Netgalley as always for great reads |
This is the second novel I have read by Alice Feeney and I thoroughly enjoyed it. ‘His and Hers’ was a brilliant read and written, as expected, from two viewpoints although, at times, it is not clear who him and her really are. The story begins with the murder of a woman in a small village, Blackdown. Newsreader Anna Andrews is sent to cover the case and her husband, DCI Jack Harper is leading the investigation. It is a woman they both knew from school days. This is where they both used to live and where they grew up. It is clear from the beginning that there are lies and deceit from all those involved. Everyone is flawed with secrets to keep and the author ensures that there is enough underlying doubt that anybody could be responsible for the murders. All the characters are realistically portrayed and the plot twists and turns all the way until the end. Thank you to NetGally, HQ, General Fiction Adult and Alice Feeney for my ARC in return for my honest review. Great read and highly recommended. |
When a woman is murdered in Blackdown village, newsreader Anna Andrews is reluctant to cover the case. Anna’s ex-husband, DCI Jack Harper, is suspicious of her involvement, until he becomes a suspect in his own murder investigation. Someone is lying, and some secrets are worth killing to keep. 'His and Hers' is a thrill a minute read! Feeney lures us into a false sense of security, the beginning is fairly slow but still intense and I could tell Feeney was building up the tension. What I did not anticipate were how many twists and red herrings Feeney would throw in along the way! I did not see the ending coming at all and I love it when an author catches me unawares. Feeney writes this from the perspective of her and him, this is a really intriguing way of writing as the reader works out who her and him could be, I loved the style and it added another layer of intrigue to the read. I should warn you this book is gruesome and there are scenes that some may find uncomfortable. This aside, I adored the plot, it reminded me of M J Arlidge's works in a way. I was completely taken in by this read, addicted to the dark goings on and in love with Feeney's delicious, devilish ways of writing an enthralling read. Anna and Jack are two wonderful characters as well. They are likeable but Feeney throws in a sufficient amount of doubt to make the reader question whether they are who they say they are or if they are hiding a multitude of secrets. They are flawed and vulnerable as well and I simply loved following them as they negotiate their way through the crimes they find themselves faced with. 'His and Hers' is a twisting, shocking and riveting read and another stellar read from Feeney. Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for an advance copy. |
Wow, this gripped me right from the start and didn’t let go until I had finished. There are so many twists, turns and little hooks to keep you reading it really makes for a fascinating read. We are alternating between ‘His’ voice, who is Jack a DCI in a sleepy town where hardly any crime ever happens. Until one day there is a murder, and he is thrown headfirst into the investigation. Does he know more than he is letting on, though? Then we have ‘Her’ voice; Anna is a news reporter with lots of troubling attributes. She has a drinking problem, has just lost her dream job and a dark past. She finds herself covering the news of the murder, and again she seems to know more than she should. The whole way through you think you are being told who has done the murders, but I’m not sure if this was a formatting issue with the ARC copy that I had or was intentional? So when the end came, I was thrown entirely, but the author still has some tricks up her sleeve and keeps surprising us and shocking us right up until the very last sentence. This was brilliantly written and moved at a fast pace to keep you wanting to turn those pages. I’d checked my review for her last book ‘I Know Who You Are’ and it seems that this is her speciality as I felt the same after that one that I do after this. She is undoubtedly a talented writer, and I really must find time to go back and read her first book. |
Oh my god!!! I’ve just finished this book with my jaw on the ground. I’ve never seen so many perfectly executed plot twists in my life!! This book will have you suspecting anyone and everyone and has a great way of making each character look like both a victim and killer. Wow, I read this within 12 hours and couldn’t wait to complete the last 25% so I stayed up until 4:30. So worth it, loved this one! First book I’ve read by this author but I’ll definitely be looking at more. |

Good solid thriller with a few guesses along the way. I enjoyed this, not too heavy going. Thanks to NetGalley, publisher and author for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. |
I loved this one. It had me hooked throughout. The plot was well written and well thought out, with lots of interesting twists. The setting was unexpected but added to the plot overall. The characters were easily understood and all too human, ranging from endearing and engaging to unlikeable and irritating. Everything about this book worked together to give it a little extra something that made it stand out. A great read |
I really enjoyed this book! A great story line that kept me hooked and excellent main characters. I would highly recommend this book. |
Overall this was a well developed story with interesting characters and well written, not an edge of seat thriller for me but a good read throughout. Not sure I will read more from this author but I have no hesitation in recommending this book. Thank you to Netgalley and Harper Impulse K.R's for giving me the opportunity to read this book. |
Thanks to HQ and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. If you've read either of Alice Feeney's previous novels - 'Sometimes I Lie', or 'I Know Who You Are', then you know that this author really knows how to tell a great yarn. 'His and Hers' is further proof, if needed, that Feeney writes great thrillers. This is a first-class thriller of incomparable skill and imagination - I loved every page. There is nothing meandering about the storyline of 'His and Hers', just taut-plotting written in crisp prose. The story revolves around an ex-married couple - DCI Jack Harper and BBC newsreader, Anna Andrews. Then there is the murder... Harper and Andrews are both viable suspects, but who is telling the truth? In this fiendishly clever thriller, Feeney weaves a mesmerising tale of secrets and lies that capitalises on the trope of the unreliable narrator - or should that be narrators? With more twists than a slalom run, Feeney takes us on a journey of the human psyche and the lies we tell ourselves and others. This is a gripping read, intense, and oozing suspense from every page. Towards the end of this psychologically astute tale of deception and falsehoods, the tension is ramped up to an unbearable degree. Then there is the final denouement which is truly stunning, A real twisty tale that will keep you guessing until the final, precious pages of this exemplary thriller. AMAZING - another must-read for 2020. |
His and hers is a fast-paced, super twisty and suspenseful thriller, told from two perspectives (his and hers obviously). It is full of secrets and constant reveals, and if there's such thing as too many twists, then this is certainly the case. There's not many characters and over the course of the book every one of them comes under suspicion and can possibly be the killer. I enjoyed reading this book but thinking back, the story is rather ridiculous and far-fetched, aimed at shocking the reader with yet another twist. |
His and Hers Author: Alice Feeney Publishers:HQ Publication Date 28/5/20 A gripping, at times shocking, read. Took me a few chapters to get the storyline straight but then it became addictive. Plenty of twists and a shock ending. A solid 4 1/2 ⭐️ read. Highly recommended. I’d like to thank the author, publisher and netgalley for providing me with this advance digital copy in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion. |
This was a really fun engaging domestic thriller but it was also pretty dark too This domestic thriller, follows a Woman, Anna and her ex husband, Jack. When a body is found in the local woods, Jack is suspicious of Anna's involvement but it isn't long until he becomes a suspect too I really liked the writing style of this book, it was really easy to read. I thought the book was very gripping. It started off quite slow but as new storylines are added, it became quite a complex but engaging thriller. I would add this thriller is incredibly dark. There is quite a lot of triggering subject matter, more than I thought there would be. Overall, I really enjoyed this thriller more than I thought I would. Highly recommend TW: rape, sexual abuse, domestic abuse, murder, suicide, violence and animal abuse |

This is a real page turner with lots of twists and turns. The novel alternates two points of view and it is hard to guess which of the two is telling the truth. A well written suspenseful thriller. My thanks to NetGalley the author and the publisher for allowing me to read an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. |
