Anna and Jack tell the story of the woman found in the woods in alternating chapters, punctuated by the italicised thoughts of the killer.

Tiny clues are dripped through the narratives so you feel, as the reader, that you are solving this puzzling disappearance, and death, at the same time as Jack and Anna are. Their fraught relationship and split is gradually revealed, adding layers of nuance and tragedy on top of the past which is dragged kicking and screaming into the light by this murder.

Both are suspects, for various reasons, and yet both are trying to desperately solve the murder-one because of guilt and the other because their professional career depends upon it.

The way that events of the past twist and turn, at the same time as hastily unravelling, provides the reader not with merely an engaging mystery, it focuses on how an individual deals with trauma, grief and death in so many different ways. The impact on the rest of your lives by the calculated acts of another is heartbreaking and vividly rendered-your emotions fly back and forth from anger to horror as the true weight of Jack and Anna's burdens are laid bare....

As a thriller, this is definitely one that keeps you reading past your bedtime-that alone would be enough. But the added mystery of which one-if indeed, either is-lying, really deconstructs the trope of an unreliable narrator , re-assembling it in Alice Feeney's distinctive style.

It was a huge pleasure to read 'His & Hers', it is definitely a book I would recommend picking up!

As the title suggests, His & Hers is a multiple P.O.V. novel with perspectives shared from protagonists Anna Andrews, news presenter, and DCI Jack Harper. Their paths cross as a body is found in the woods of Blackdown, launching a murder investigation which brings the past to the fore and dredges up memories which are better left buried.

In terms of the characters, Anna stole centre stage for me as the many facets of her personality continued to be revealed, allowing me to have some empathy and tolerance for her less desirable characteristics. Police Officer Priya is well-developed to fill her intentional place as an ever present annoyance, the behavioural traits she encompassed triggering elements of pity, irritation, and a wry smile of amusement in an otherwise thrilling tale.

This is a scorching speed read of a book, which winds the reader a merry dance, luring you in so you think you have the story sussed, only to change theories and encounter 'aha' moments aplenty. I was ultimately able to work out the final twist, though there were still important elements which I had not guessed and enabled the all strands of the story to be wound together in a neat bow. I love a tidy ending!

Having discovered Alice Feeney through her debut, Sometimes I Lie, I was delighted to have the opportunity to pre-read this book and would advise any crime and thriller fans to add it to their Summer reading lists.

Anna finds herself drawn back to her hometown when someone she knows is murdered. This means facing her ex husband who is the lead detective on the case. Soon there is another murder and Anna realizes she is connected to this as she knows all the victims and the dark secrets that surround them but the question is who is killing them?

This was an interesting read but didn't hold my attention as much as I hoped. The plot is clever and the twists are well done especially the big twist at the end. As for the end it was perfect for the book and well written. The story jumps from his and her and at times the killer but it can be hard to differentiate at times. This may be the idea so you're never sure who it is but for me it was a little disjointed. It might just be how its presented on my kindle though. A good thriller.

DCI Jack Harper is called to a murder scene. A woman’s body has been found in the woods and he recognises her, as he had been with her that night. But, he keeps that to himself for fear of being thought a suspect…

Anna Andrews, a TV journalist isn’t covering the story. She’s had to return to her hometown of Blackdown to do so and memories of her earlier life there floodback. She’s also an alcoholic.

Tragedy links these two damaged people.

When a second body is found, the story gets dark and twisted. As the body count grows how are these victims linked? Who would want them dead?

I can’t say much for fear of spoiling this complex plot, but it deals with difficult, emotive subjects with a deft touch. Told from the perspective of Jack, Anna and a killer it gives a unique atmosphere and insights into the characters lives, their secrets and pasts, really bringing them to life.

I read a lot of thrillers, but this is something special, it’s dark, compelling and a read in one sitting psychological thriller. Absolutely brilliant.

Confident, dynamic, self-reliant - Anna Andrews heads off to work as normal, only to get there and find that she's been replaced as the face of the news. A job She has been doing to the camera for the last 2 years. Her predecessor has returned and she's out. However, it turns out there's been a murder in her home town of Blackdown, and they want her down there, to cover it, now. She's reluctant, for many reasons. These become clear, as you navigate your way through the book, one by one the reasons she been avoiding going back to Blackdown raise their ugly heads and Anna can't stop or hide from them. She's not 15 anymore.

Firstly, her ex-husband. DCI Jack Harper - is covering the case and she can't avoid him. The death of their daughter split them up and she hasn't really come to terms with that. He's qualified with a wealth of police experience, but when he realises he knows the victim, he too is sent reeling. Since splitting up with Anna, he is now living with his sister Zoe, who Anna is none too keen on, and being home, means Anna has no choice but to revisit those feelings and memories. But for his own reasons, Jack would rather not be covering the case either.

The story goes between His - Jack and Hers - Anna's versions of events, going back to when Anna was growing up in Blackdown, during school, her school friends, and why she left. And Jack and her movements now. The information form the past is superbly drip-fed and just adds to the plotline. Secrets and lies come back as memories to Anna, that shes obviously tried to forget, and some for good reason.

Rachel Hopkin's body had been found, its clearly murder, and its personal. The who and the why is Jack's job to sort out. Anna's busy reporting to the nation and getting his sidekick Priya to tell her the details was a stroke of luck. Playing along to get more details than you already have is a great tactic of Anna's, which Jack is, of course, wise too. Having been friends with Rachel at school was even better, as it gave her greater insight for the reports and got her closer to the action than any other reporter on the scene. But it doesn't end there and for Anna, the story soon becomes all too personal as well.

This book will hit the spot for any fans of psychological thrillers, its intensity compels you to keep reading and will ensure your on the edge of your seat throughout. The characters grip you and carry you through nicely narrating the story, whilst another voice pieces together the missing bits of the puzzle.

I loved Alice Feeney's previous book Sometimes I Lie and was delighted to read His And Hers. Another brilliant book from HQ and from an author whos here to stay.

This book certainly takes some getting used to. The story flicks between narration of him then her. The story is centred around Jack and his ex wife Anna. Jack is a detective and Anna a journalist for the BBC. What re connects them is a series of murders in the place they grew up. And they are both connected to the victims.

To start with I thought about giving up on this book. However, I stuck with it and am so please I did. Lots of twists and turns and a fantastic ending

With His and Hers by Alice Feeney, prepare to jump on a ride where one murder will open up the gates of the past, and expose a lot of people in a very brutal way.

Synopsis:
When a woman is murdered in Blackdown village, Anna Andrews needs to go there to cover the story. However, her hometown brings back a lot of unwanted memories.

Her ex-husband, DCI Jack Harper is investigating the murder and is very suspicious of Anna’s involvement. That is, until he becomes a suspect himself.

My Thoughts:
I have to admit, at the beginning I though this will be a domestic thriller, and I am not too keen on them. I enjoy them, but I prefer psychological thrillers more. It turned out that His and Hers is not only a psychological thriller, but also a very well written one. I have only read one book from Alice Feeney before, I Know Who You Are, and I also enjoyed it, so I was expecting to enjoy this one as well.

The chapters are split into three points of view.
The first one is Her – Anna’s point of view. The second one is Him – Jack’s story. The third one is the point of view of the killer, who has their own thoughts and explanations. And the beautiful thing about the third point of view is that we don’t know who it might be until the very end of the book. That point of view is so well written, that I kept guessing who it might be, and kept changing my mind. At the end, the answer was so surprising and satisfying in the end. And once I knew who the killer is, I went back and read those pages again, and they had a completely another meaning for me. Kudos to Alice for making this possible, as I know not everyone can manage to do this!

“And I pay attention to the little things, because they are often the biggest clues to who a person really is. People rarely see themselves the way others do; we all carry broken mirrors.”

Dementia
The book also briefly focuses on Dementia, and we get to experience the moment Anna realises her mother is ill. For me, this had a special meaning, having experience working with people suffering from dementia, and the writing of the symptoms was very accurate. The reaction of Anna was quite accurate as well, in terms of how hard it was to notice, but also how much harder is to actually accept this fact.

“Mum doesn’t always remember that I’m thirty-six and live in London. She frequently forgets that I have a job, and that I used to have a husband and a child of my own. She didn’t even seem to know that it was my birthday. There was no card this year, or last, but it’s not her fault. Time is something my mother has forgotten how to tell. It moves differently for her now, often backwards instead of forwards. Dementia stole time from my mother, and stole my mother from me.”

If you get to read His and Hers, prepare for many twists, many mysteries, a lot of drama and betrayals. The ending was the most satisfying part for me, but I enjoyed this book all the way through and struggled to put it down. I recommend it to everyone that is in love with mystery thrillers, especially the ones that focus on the psychological aspect.

If you like psychological thrillers then you’ll enjoy this. The story twisted and turned faster than Disney’s Rock ‘n Roller Coaster so that I kept changing my mind about who the murderer was. Well, this is a real puzzle; who's a goodie and who's a baddie? I think I had every character in both camps at some point or another . . .

Jack and Anna used to be married. The haven't seen each other for quite some time when a body is found on their home turf. Anna, a tv journalist and Jack, a Detective Inspector for the local force, are re-acquainted over the corpse. As the death count continues to rise, it's a race to see who can find out what's going on first . . .

Entitling the chapters 'him' and 'her' was a real stroke of genius as, whenever I though I had worked out who the narrator was, something would happen to make me doubt myself. As the story plays out and the murder count rises, my little grey matter had a fine work out and ended up every bit as confused as when I began. With pertinent information dripping in every now and then, I congratulated myself on getting one or two small matters correct but, just when I thought I knew everything that was going on, one final revelation left me reeling! I really hadn't a clue; the author had me completely hoodwinked and I was both shocked and stunned to discover who the guilty party was. A clever and beguiling read from a talented author who knows how to keep her readers committed and dangling! Absolutely deserving of all five sparkling stars and a hearty recommendation.

A book to keep you guessing . I enjoyed this book but with reservations. The story is told primarily from two angles his and hers. His is Jack, the detective covering the murder of a young woman and his ex wife Anna a journalist. A series of bizarre murders take place with a connection to each other and the main characters. False scents are dropped around to keep you guessing and some aspects could be confusing. It does all get neatly wrapped up in the grand finale
An enjoyable read

There are certain books that you enjoy, then dont, then do again and you end up not really knowing what to ‘make of it’ and what your overall end feeling is
This was that!
A very well detailed story of lies, more lies, confusing revenge, nasty evil secrets and a Him and Her who even at the end I wasn’t 100% sure which ‘Him’ and which ‘Her’ had been narrating
I never considered ‘giving up’ as wanted to try and find out who had done what, to who and why but did a few times find myself daydreaming about my next book choice and having to go back and re read a few sentences
The story is complex and some of the characters repugnant and for all of the story I was foxed as to who was the victim and who was the crim and who was telling the truth and who wasn’t
Hard to review this one for me and so will be interested to read other reviews and see what other readers thought

Wow oh wow!! What an absolutely fantastic book! I haven’t been able to put this one down and honestly I really haven’t wanted to either.
I have been pulled in by this author since the very first page and have devoured this book. I have been kept guessing and been highly suspicious of every character.
I have attempted (unsuccessfully) to work out where the author was taking this one. The twists and turns have kept me reading and wanting more.
I cannot say anything negative about this book. The cover draws your attention, the synopsis definitely makes you curious. I have loved the range of characters, the author has done a great job of making them seem real.
This is my first read by this author, but I am definitely a converted fan. I absolutely cannot wait to read more by this fantastic author.
This is without a doubt a book I will be recommending. It is highly deserving of five stars, only this doesn’t show how brilliant a book this is.

His and Hers is another fabulous thriller by Alice Feeney.
Jack and Anna are working the same case; Jack as the DCI in charge and Anna as a tv reporter. Their respective roles would be enough to cause a potential conflict between them without their personal history that they used to be husband and wife. Both are also personally involved in the case. Did either of them have another to do with the murder? Can they prove their innocence? Can either Jack or Anna be trusted?
Such a good book with twists aplenty. Really had me on the edge of my seat and wanting to read more.
Highly recommend to fans of Alice Feeney and anyone who likes a good thriller.

Oh Yes!! There I was reading this shouting at the book (as I do) "IT'S THIS PERSON, I KNOW IT IS, CASE CLOSED!"

Turns out I might have been wrong, all of my smugness took a huge turn when BAM, in comes a twist, and I thought, Hmm didn't see that coming, and then BAM, in comes another one, and to top it off BAM here's another one to add to the pile.

So, I don't feel so smug anymore, as I had no idea LOL

This is a difficult one to review as I don't want to add any unintentional spoilers, so all you need to know is this:

A murder brings them both together again
One of them could be involved
One of them could be lying
Secrets and lies a-plenty

If you love a twisty thriller that will keep you on your toes, and your head spinning, this is the one for you.

The story is told mainly from the perspective of two people – Anna Andrews and Jack Harper and then there is the unknown murderer’s perspective. The story starts with Anna who has a temporary position as a newsreader. Anna loves her job and is devastated when the person she is filling in for returns to work. She is then sent out to investigate a murder which has taken place in a little place called Blackdown in Surrey, which coincidentally is her home town. Jack is a Detective Chief Inspector whose home town is also Blackdown and this is where he is now based. Anna and Jack are divorced, their marriage having broken down after their baby died.
The twists and turns of this book left me reeling at times and the events that follow are horrific. This is a great book at keeping the reader guessing all the way through. There are a number of people playing a part in the story. Anna’s ‘friends’ from school who behaved badly towards her when she was young, Jack’s sister is also quite unpleasant, and who Jack now lives with in the family home. Then there is Anna’s mother who has dementia and needs looking after. Other charactersminclude Richard, Anna’s cameraman, who is not all he appears to be. Then lastly there is Sergeant Priya Patel, who appears to have a bit of a crush on Jack. None of the characters appear to be particularly happy. Anna has a drink problem and even has her own breathaliser in the car to check if she is over the limit when she is driving. Jack’s home life is depressing, living with his sister Zoe and her young child. Zoe is extremely difficult to live with, making demands on Jack despite the fact that she doesn’t work and is dependent on Jack financially.
I really got into this book, particularly as the pace of the story picked up. It is a real page turner as we are led up the garden path trying to work out who is responsible. I didn’t guess the ending and it came as a complete surprise to me. I would definitely recommend this book. It is the first I have read by Alice Feeney so it is great to have another author to look out for. Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to read an advance copy of His and Hers.

His and Hers is Alice Feeney’s third novel and having read and enjoyed ‘I know who you are’ my expectations were already set fairly high.
This thriller is told from two perspectives, His and Hers. His is DCI Jack Harper, head of the major crime unit in the sleepy backwater village of Blackdown; Hers is Anna Andrews, BBC news presenter, sent to cover a murder investigation in the village. Anna and Jack are connected by their past marriage and it’s fair to say there’s still a lot of bad blood surrounding the disintegration of their relationship. Mistrustful of each other, both His and Hers retelling of the past and current events are at the best unreliable and at the worst cover up some very disturbing secrets. It’s left to the reader to separate fact from fiction, truth from lies in this twisty thriller whose origins lie in a past full of cruel and shocking behaviour, portraying the female species in a very unforgiving light. Now with scores to settle, someone wants revenge against these past injustices.
Within a few pages I was hooked, finding Anna to be both cold and calculating as well as a slave to the bottle and I didn’t trust her in the slightest. Equally there’s something off kilter with DCI Harper, a womaniser and an individual who gives the impression he may not quite be the upstanding representative of the law that he should be. This feeling is upheld by his interactions with his subordinate Priya. The main question to answer here is who is lying and who is telling the truth?
My suspicions ricocheted constantly between a number of characters, with each guess becoming more like a stab in the dark. It felt like Jack and Anna were alternatively being framed for murder either by each other or a third party and it did get confusing! The truth when it is finally revealed is something I’d never even considered although in hindsight of course clues are there, albeit obscure ones. The author cleverly tied me up in knots with red herrings and forced me to cast my suspicions in all directions;virtually no one escaped my scrutiny apart from the real culprit!! The waters are so muddied and with the occasional voice of the killer woven into the narrative, this novel held my attention from start to finish.
My reasoning behind awarding this thriller four stars instead of five is simply down to my belief it’s impossible to correctly guess the guilty party because the plot line is so complicated and slightly far fetched. However, perhaps my inability to stay one step ahead of these unreliable narrators and solve the mystery says more about my powers of perception than it does about the smart way the plot line has been developed. To create such complex threads that tie all the players together requires great imagination and a style of writing that keeps you engaged. It’s kind of a superior ‘would I lie to you’ competition in which you as a reader has to decide who is the most convincing, sifting the truth from the lies. I found it so addictive and frustrating in equal measure, knowing I was being outsmarted with every turn of the page. There are twists galore, the majority of which I found impossible to guess so if you love a read that will keep you on your toes His and Hers is one for you. Definitely recommend and my thanks as always to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read.

This is definitely my best read of the Year. It was so gripping and fast paced. It really keeps you guessing and looking over your shoulder. I have read all of Alice Feeney's books and loved them all but this is the best one yet.!

Insanely good!

His & Hers is one hell of a rollercoaster ride of twists and turns that doesn't let up until the very end!

Told between the perspectives of Anna and Jack, each character soon proves they are less than reliable narrators as they each give their own accounts of the night of the murder with key missing details or things that don't add up. Both clearly have serious issues that they're avoiding dealing with and are unable to account for themselves and their behaviour which means neither can prove their innocence. But one of them is guilty and I was desperate to figure out who!!

Every time I thought I'd figured out who was to blame, there was another shock twist in the perspective that pointed to the other! I honestly couldn't put this down and enjoyed every minute. The details of the murder are disturbingly gruesome and unsettling and is clearly the work of someone with a serious vendetta and a very sick mind. But as each narrative contradicts the other, the hardest thing is to trying to decide which of the accounts is the one we can trust and who is actually the murderer!

His & Hers is fast-paced, fantastically developed, cleverly written and was a really enjoyable read. A huge five star read for me; another Alice Feeney masterpiece! Strap yourself in and prepare for twist after turn, shock after shock and an incredible climax that you won't see coming!

This story has many twists, and I found most of them pointless and over the top, making the story too unbelievable. Many of the “big reveals” and twists at the start just weren’t even needed, and as they continued they just made me not connect with the story as I found it getting ridiculous. This book just wasn’t for me.
