This set of novellas was an interesting and sexy read. Both stories were well written by the respective authors and I felt the fantasy content was exciting. The erotic content was fiery. All in all a great read. I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Wow this book was definitely not was I was expecting but in a good way. I chose this book based off of the cover and found it to be two books in one (bonus). This was a steamy hot super natural erotic book that kept me turning the pages one after another. I love that this is out of my normal genre of reading and kept things interesting and sexy the entire way.

Soul burn is two erotic novellas that are FF and the shifter is the submissive partner. Both stories are very similar in that the age range is mid to late 30s , FF and BDSM elements. I think both stories could have been better presented and better developed. The story with Celeste if they had finished the plot would have been really really good but the focus because heavily on the FF aspect which felt disconnected.,. the same could be said of the 2nd story I just don't feel the 2nd story had a better plot IMO.

Interesting read. You pretty much are thrown right into the story from the beginning. There really isn't a plot line - just story. I didn't connect with the characters too much. It was just a story, nothing more.

Disclaimer, if you are not interested in or at least open minded to erotica, bdsm, dominant/submissive relationships, or pain play then this book isn’t for you and should not be negatively reviewed for being for a certain audience.
These stories are incredibly intense. Both stories are outside of my comfort zone and quite different than I was expecting when I started the book but I am glad of that. I enjoyed the experience and learning about Dom and Sub relationships. I was blown away by the intensity of both stories and really enjoyed the added supernatural aspect.
The sex scenes were highly erotic and steamy. Even when The characters desires didn’t match my own I was still thoroughly engrossed in each and every scene. The skill with which they were written was very evident.
Shifting flames is the first story and I really liked Eve And Celeste's connection. Celeste was extremely off-putting at the start but once her icy exterior started to melt, Eve and Celeste founds exactly what they we’re looking for in one another. They ending left me with unanswered questions but still very satisfied.
The Fire Inside is the second story and had a much stronger focus on the pain play and Bdsm which was intriguing and tastefully done. It was also informative, Clara is a dungeon mistress and explains many aspects of her job. I really enjoyed Clara and Selena had a great story as well. Clara is exactly what Selena needs and I loved the level of compassion she displayed.
I liked both stories equally in different ways and am really glad I got to experience these fantastic and sexy stories. Megan and Brenda are a great team and both authors developed stories that were hot and heavy yet sweet and passionate at the same time.

I’ve read a number of novels by Murphy and only one by Hart but I enjoy the way both authors write. Both novellas have shifters and BDSM in common but they’re quite different stories.

Shifting Flames by Brenda Murphy

A bestselling but difficult, reclusive author, Celeste Quon, has given in to the pressure to have one of her novels adapted for the big screen but only if she has full control. Eve Perez finds herself driving into the remote area in a snowstorm because, while this may be the only job she can get, it may be the job to restore her reputation.

There is quite a bit of scope in this story line for quite an intricate and powerful novella but some of the better arcs were left untouched in favour of more sex. Hard to believe I’m saying this, because Murphy writes some very hot scenes, but I think there were too many. Eve’s reputation issue could have been used more and Celeste’s shifter story could have been given more light. It’s still a pretty good story though.

The Fire Inside by Megan Hart

Clara is a professional domme who enjoys her work. Until Selena, that is. Selena hires Clara for the pain, but none of the pleasure and it intrigues her at first, then begins to worry her.

I enjoyed this story very much. It looks at the shifter from a different point of view as well as having an unusual dominance and submission relationship. If people are going to profess their undying love to each other I prefer them to have had a few meaningful conversations first but I realise that not all readers want that from story.

Both are well worth reading.

Ok, I am going to be totally honest, this is not my cup of tea. I has no idea this was fantasy so it was a little hard for me to wrap my head around.

The writing was clear and concise. Easy to follow and the story had a nice flow.
Eve and Celeste's Screen writer and author relationship is built on the secret that Celeste is keeping. After emotions and things get physical Celeste makes a decision to share with Eve, letting fate decide.
The Second book is the story of Clara and Selena, a domme and Selena being submissive and hiding a secret. Clara shows Selena what if feels like when someone shows tenderness. Clara for me won this story being that she is a domme , it could have went south quickly.

These are well written stories and I am sure these are a lot of readers who just love these stories. I am not a reader of fantasy and I am not a female domme fan. But, with that said, I didn't dislike the stories. They were well written and an easy read.

Soul Burn gives us two novellas by two authors. Shifting Flames by Megan Hart and The Fire Inside by Brenda Murphy have similarities – both are domme/sub relationships where the subs are shifters.

”A mistress, a werewolf, a screenwriter and a shapeshifter walk into your heart in these two sexy paranormal stories of love and redemption.”

In Shifting Flames we have screenwriter Eve Perez, ousted by the industry because of a scandal so she really needs this job. She agrees to take on a time-sensitive (and rather fraught) project to work with recluse writer Celeste Quon, known to be very difficult. In Celeste’s very secluded compound, a winter storm keeps both women in close quarters. Eve discovers Celeste’s dark secret.

In The Fire Inside, mistress Clara is doling out all the pain her submissive client Selena can handle. And she can handle a lot. Selena needs the pain to keep her wolf at bay but she can’t ever climax because then it would be all for naught. Clare knows Selene is on the verge of losing it and intrigued, she is on a mission to get to the center of this.

Both stories were full on BDSM, so it really needs to have your interest if you want to enjoy these erotic novellas. Both authors were new to me but I liked their style. It was intense, solidly written and very sexy.

f/f exlicit BDSM, flogging, edging

Themes: shapeshifters, dommes and submissives, a cabin in the woods, letting your inner beast free.

I love this book. It's great to see my favourite romance genre (shifter) have some f/f story lines. The characters are amazingly well done and the stories are interesting.

In the first storu I loved that the description of the shifter bit at the beginning is a bit more violent and aggressive then in most of these books. After all they turn into animals and have animal instincts, so it would be natural that they kill someone who comes into their territory. So much more surprising to the find out that the shifter is a submissive. What a lovely twist..

The second story was equally intriguing and got me reading on long after I should have gone to sleep. Such great writing in making the relationship between these two work outside of their sessions.

All in all I really led the two stories!!

Let me start by saying I love reading about shifters, erotica and BDSM. Soul Burn tends to all those favourites so it is safe to say I loved reading this book. When this is your guilty pleasure too, please don't hesitate to pick this one up, you will enjoy.
The book contains two stories/novellas: Shifting Flames (Brenda Murphy) and The Fire Inside (Megan Hart).

I’m familiar with Murphy’s work and she never fails to satisfy my kink. And after reading Harts novella I'm able to say I like her writing style and she also is very able to write down a good story with satisfying scenes.
Because these are novellas, I didn’t expect too deep soul searching but was pleasantly surprised that I did find it in both novella's (a little more in Harts book). For the short time the authors had, they made it work great. In both stories, I found a little suspense, lots of sexy scenes and both provided well on an emotional level.

Shifting Flames: When reading Celeste’s first scene in the novella, she handles as a ruthless killer. At first, I was taken aback, but the reason why made me forgive her quickly.
Reading about the physical differences between Eve and Celeste I would have guessed the domme-sub roles being the other way around. So thank you, Murphy, for slapping my fingers on labelling people. The play in this part of the book is - in my opinion - milder than the Harts story. If you don't scare easily it is suitable for readers who haven't read BDSM before.

As for Harts part of the book - The Fire Inside - is a little more rough play, which is a necessity for Selena. All will be clear when you read this book, so don't let me spoil it for you. This was - for me - the first time to read about a submissive who didn't need the submissive part, but more the pain part. And although that may sound weird, it did give the book more depth. Also in this part of the book labels are not what they seem. Due to a lack of trust in herself, the power of shifting is what makes Selena weak.

Both enjoyable and sexy reads.

Wow! I'm not normally a fan of shifters or paranormal, but I AM a fan of Brenda Murphy. This is a two-story set, similar in that both feature submissive shifters and a fairly heavy dose of BDSM with racially diverse characters. I thought each story was the perfect length and was able to get through them each in one sitting. It was everything I expected from Brenda Murphy, but I wasn't familiar with Megan Hart since she doesn't "live" in the LGBTQ world. I will definitely recommend her writing to my friends who read mainstream romance. A great way to spend a couple of cold winter nights!

I always love a good paranormal romance! I was happy to have no one but two in this book. However, that being said, there was not a lot of actual romance in either book. There was a lot of sex, which I'm always up for, but when I say it was sex and no romance, that was it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this at all. Both writers are very good at their craft and I found the scenery descriptions of a wintery Colorado to be fantastic. Overall both novellas were engaging and steamy. If this is your scene, enjoy! If not, you might want to find something a bit more tame!

Brenda Murphy and Megan Hart bring the heat in these two novellas! I have read many of Murphy's romances but this is my first by Hart. Both authors did a good job at giving us some creative stories which include shifters.

Shifting Flames by Murphy is pretty much written like many of her other books. Heavy on the BDSM and quick on the love. Actually this one has a bit more heavy play than I am use to. I was a bit thrown at who would be the Dom and the Sub in this one, but it fits. I liked that Eve and Celeste are totally different characters than I pictured in my head at the beginning of the story. Like all other Murphy stories, this one is pretty steamy. The only thing I didn't really like was the ending. I know this is a novella the ending seemed thrown together. I rate this one 3.75 stars.

I enjoyed The Fire inside by Hart a tad bit more. Like Shifting flames the element of BDSM and shifters is unique. At least I haven't read anything else like it. I like this one more because of Selena who is fighting the wolf inside of her. This is why she seeks out BDSM. Clara is an enjoyable character as well. They just really fit well together and I like who Hart writes this story and even though it is a novella, the ending fits well and brings the entire story together. I give her 4.25 stars.

Rating both, I give Soul Burn 4 stars.

Soul Burn is not one story by two authors but two novellas (one by each author) with both similarities and differences. They’re both BDSM erotic romances with one of the main characters a shifter.

In Shifting Flames, by Brenda Murphy, Celeste Quon is a recluse writer with a reputation for being difficult who has agreed to work with a screenwriter to bring her bestseller to the screen. Eve Perez is struggling after her ex stole her work and ruined her reputation. When they meet, sparks fly, each recognizing the need and desire in the other.

The Fire Inside, by Megan Hart, brings the reader right into the action, where Selena is being beaten by Clara. Selena uses pain to ward off orgasms. That’s her hard limit: she doesn’t want to climax. Clara is a very precise and conscientious Domme, and senses there’s more to that hard limit than Selena lets on.

What I found most interesting is that both shifters are submissive but while Celeste thrives on the shift and loves the thrill and pain of becoming her tiger, Selena fights her wolf with fervour.

I’m beginning to know what to expect from Murphy’s books: solid writing, intense characters, steam. I got all that with Shifting Flames, but it felt a little short and rushed at times (novellas…). Hart is new to me, and I liked her story a lot. Sure it’s extremely sexy but it’s the love and understanding that get to me. The two stories complement each other really well, and it’s fascinating to see how the same ingredients can result in very different tales.

I received a copy from the publisher and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

A pair of shape-shifter novellas. Both with BDSM, D/s. Both in which the physically stronger shifter is the submissive to a human partner. Though both stories were well-written, I liked the first better than the second. And as is often the case with novellas, I was left wanting more.

In the first story, tiger-shifter Celeste lives a hermit life up in the Colorado mountains. She is an author whose novel is being turned into a movie. Eve Perez is a screen-writer who is desperate for a job. So desperate she is willing to travel to Colorado and stay with Celeste in an all-or-nothing contract to come up with a script for the novel. When a snowstorm leaves her stuck there, the energy between the two is too much to ignore, but when the weather clears and the script is done, will Eve stay or will she go?

In the second, Selena is a wolf-shifter who has been fighting all her life to control the beast inside her. Clara is a dom-for-hire, to whom Selena turns for the pain that keeps the wolf at bay. But pain and fear are no way to live, and as she starts to feel more for Selena, Clara tries to help Selena reveal her secret and move on to living a more full life.
