Southern Spirits: 5th Anniversary Deluxe Box Set by Angie Fox (Southern Spirits 1, 1.5 and 2)

Southern Spirits is the first book in the series, and introduces us to Verity Long, who is in the process of selling everything she has so she can pay back her former future mother-in-law after stood him up at the alter.  She is desperate to try to keep a hold of the family home, and so is willing to do anything to get some money.  When she manages to trap a ghost on her property, who is also eager for her to keep it, he lets her see the ghostly side of things, which can help when people have problems!

A Ghostly Gift is book 1.5, so a novella between books 1 and 2.  Verity is asked by her sister to help a friend out who has a resale shop (like a pawn shop), and so Verity and Frankie, her dead gangster friend, are going to investigate, and maybe get some furniture for the house out of it!

The Skeleton in the Closet has Verity and Frankie investigating a dead body, found in the library, which is a very old building, so there are lots of ghosts as potential witnesses!  There are secrets that someone is willing to kill to keep, and so Verity is going to have to watch her back!

These are an enjoyable cosy fantasy crime series, and as you can tell, I'm always happy to pick up one in the series!

Southern Spirits: 5th Anniversary Deluxe Box Set by Angie Fox (Southern Spirits 1-3) was published on 17th January 2020, and is available to buy from Amazon.

Fun, light supernatural mystery and romance. Just my kind of book series. This is a good introduction to the series with the first two books and a novella.

This is a grouping of the first three books in this series. I am officially hooked. Verity finds herself in a bind when she becomes aware of how horrible her fiancée is when he hits on her sister at the rehearsal dinner. She breaks off the engagement. Her ex and his Mother set out to ruin her life. Starting by staging the wedding to look as if she has left him at the alter. Then her once to be mother in law sues for the cost of the wedding. Resulting in Verity selling off all of her families heirlooms. On the eve of listing her family home for sale she accidently binds the spirit of a local mobster to herself and property when she dumps his ashes out of his urn into his rose bushes.
In this first installment, Frankie, the ghost and she become partners in an attempt to save her home and his resting place. They for a spirit removal business. They also work on releasing his spirit so that he is not trapped in one location,( the only way he may now leave the property is if Verity has his urn with her).
Their first client is her ex's brother. He is having issues with a ghost in a property he purchased in the hopes of converting it into a bar/restaurant. He is willing to settle the last of the judgement his Mother was awarded if they can rid her of his problems. The learning curve is steep as they struggle to learn the ins and outs of ghost busting.
In the second story Verity struggles to keep others from finding out she can commune with the dead. This is proving to be difficult when her sister offers her help to the woman who owns the local thrift shop. If Verity can help rid the shop of the spirit haunting the space she will trade her much needed furniture.
Verity and Frank are on the job even though it rankles him that they are not getting paid. They also find time to help and elderly woman along the way. The characters are developing and I am loving the changes and the interactions among them.
In the third story verity is needed to help solve a murder in her sisters library branch. It is related to the display of civil war artifacts. The family of her ex comes on the radar as she and Frankie work the local spirit population in a hope of finding the criminal.
I love the dialog and the set up. It is like I am visiting old friends when I am reading these books. The inclusion of a pet skunk only makes these stories not to miss. I highly recommend these books. I am looking forward to reading the others in the series.

Verity Long is a reluctant professional ghost hunter (with a pet skunk) who is trying to hang on to her ancestral home while finding herself attracted to her ex-fiancé’s brother. Oh, and her sidekick is a long dead gangster named Frankie! Yes, it’s crazy and it’s so much fun! I have read another book from Angie’s Southern Ghost Hunter series - the Christmas one - and I loved it. I’m glad I read this set so I could know the story from the beginning! Hope this series keeps going for a long time!

Fun series with ghost hunting! Gives you a great start with getting multiple books instead of just the first. Fun and quirky, great for a light paranormal read.

Verity Long has acquired a new talent. When cleaning out a “vase”, she inadvertently traps a spirit on her property. Her new spirit friend, Frankie, helps Verity see the other side and together they help ghosts and friends alike.

Author Angie Fox weaves together a lighthearted series with loveable characters, including an adorable pet skunk! I can’t wait to read more!

Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the 5th Anniversary Edition of the Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries series. You’ll find the first and second books as well as a novella that takes place in between. In addition there is more than 50 pages of never before seen bonus content. The bonus content includes deleted scenes, character profiles, behind the scenes peeks at how some scenes came together and original artwork.

Verity Long must have the worst luck – EVER. Her ex is a cad and his mom has it out for Verity; all but ruining her financially and doing her level best to turn her into a pariah in their little town of Sugarland, TN. To make matters worse, Verity accidentally traps a ghost on her property, and now she’s stuck with a spectral sidekick! However, he comes in rather handy when she’s faced with a mystery to solve. A mystery one needs ghostly help to unravel…

I was in like after the first book. It was fine, a decent cozy mystery and likeable characters. The novella is hardly even there at 56 pages (according to the Kindle version). It’s sweet with a darling ending, but barely a bit of fluff with no substance. The second full book, however, reeled me right in. Verity as a character really grew on me in the second book, as well as Ellis. And, Ellis? That’s going to be a mess, but I can see why she’s willing to risk it. *snorts* Several supporting characters from the first book get a little more developed in the second one as well, making them more endearing. I’m a very character driven reader, so that’s the best way to suck me in. And, Fox has certainly done that. The little town of Sugarland feels almost like another character in the book. A very quirky character.

The mysteries themselves are fun to watch unfold. Fox tells the story well, and holds my attention. I will absolutely read on, no question. I enjoyed this immensely. Thank you again to NetGalley for the free copy.

I love paranormal mysteries, as long as they don’t resort to the ghost or vision giving all the clues. Never fear- these are great! Cute characters, Wonderfully developed locale, and a solid mystery make this a must read. I loved it!

This deluxe edition includes the first 3 books. I’ve just finished reading the first book in the series and I wanted to give an update on my review so far! This was such a fun paranormal mystery read! I enjoyed the witty dialogue and humor, I found the storyline to be fast-paced as well. This was just an absolute joy to read. I’ll write a more detailed review once I finish the other two books.

It´s been a while since I got around to write a review, with well....everything happening this year, but I need to work off my netgalley books and I´m kinda glad my first review back starts off with this book, because it´s such a cozy mystery comfort read, with solid mysteries, sympathic characters and lots of funny Moments.
The Heroine Verity, is trying to keep her head over water after leaving her soon to be husband on the eve of her wedding, because he was trying to hit on her sister. Too bad that his Family is rich and he is the town Darling, making her a paria in her community now, ending with her being forced to sell her grandmothers House. But she´s going to do everything necerssary to save her home, even if it mean teaming up with a ghost she accidentally traps with her and her ex´s brother. Who isn´t an asshole and very nice to look at...
Verity is fun, headstrong and a great Heroine to follow, and I enjoyed her interactions and growing friendship with Frankie, her trapped ghost companion. Both of the make a great Team, and that her first solution is Always to talk to the ghosts and help them settle is great. Her quirk is having a Skunk pet, which is really cute.
The love Story flows along nicely, from a slightly problematic start to a growing attaction. It´s cute, it´s fun, and I loved reading about Ellis, who has it anything but easy with his cases.
The main part of the plot are the mysteries of course and they are also one of the strongest parts of the novels. The clues are fairly laid out, it´s fun to puzzle through and they also don´t shy away frome some darker developments and subverting expectations (see the Content warnings above). It is a ghostly mystery thought, so dealing with the past and how People try to hide they sins and mistakes and to rewrite their own history Plays a Major part. But healing, letting go and moving on also become strong focus Points and I like that this takes precedence over anything like Revenge or bad conclusion. Verity is trying to talk and help the ghosts she meets after all, even if the murders and murderes still remain human.
Representation and diversity are the weak Points of the novel here, and while they are not a must, it should be mentioned that the third mystery deal with the civil war and the southern pride about that, with some minor critic about all that. A southern american Reviewer probably could talk About that more.
Overally, it´s a fun, easy and romantic comfort read, and I´ll definitly keep an eye out for the rest of the series.

Verity Long, Frankie the gangster ghost and Lucy the adorable Lucy the skunk make one of the most entertaining sleuthing teams I've read! Verity has troubles - in the first book, she's on the hook for a high society wedding (hers), is desperately trying to raise money by selling every item in her family's home. One item she doesn't sell and so begins her adventures in the other books!

I enjoyed the books and loved the characters! The mystery kept me guessing, laughing and wanting to read more!

I received an ARC from NetGalley. The opinions expressed are my own.

I’d forgotten how wonderful this story was! I’d read Southern Spirits just about four years ago and loved it and can’t figure out why I didn’t see when the other books had come out. This is a box set contains the first three stories in the series, plus some never before seen content like older covers, deleted scenes, and sneak peeks at the entire series and how it came about.
I definitely recommend this entire series if you’re a fan of cozy mysteries, spirits, cute pets, and slow burn romance.
Ms. Fox has done an outstanding job not only with the writing and characters, but the setting. It’s so beautifully described that I can actually picture myself walking in the town of Sugarland and seeing things like the town library with the cannonball in the wall, the resale shop where Verity helped a ghost find his lost love, and her ex’s house up on the hill looking down on everyone.

**I received an ARC of this story from NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review. After receiving this ARC from NetGalley, I purchased a copy from Amazon.

At the beginning, the story reminded me a little of Casey Daniels' Pepper Martin Series. But Varity's ghost investigations pretty quickly developed a great charm of their own. I think it's so cute that her pet Lucy is a skunk. Also the plot part with her fraudulent ex, the rumors / accusations from him and his influential mother, which is why she is now hated by the whole village. I also liked the romantic entanglements with her ex-fiance's brother, who is one of the few who knows her secret and often needs her help privately or in police investigations. The characters are all very lovingly worked out, the stories varied and the plot has so much humor and great ideas that the time flies by. Wonderfully light and at the same time very exciting. Entertainment that brings a lot of fun !!
