This book was a real treat for me. I've read other books in the series, but these go into detail about the beginnings. In the first book Verity has just dumped her fiance and sued for the cost of the massive wedding. She's able to hang on to her ancestral home (barely) but sold almost everything that was in it. One thing that didn't sell was a vase. Verity dumps the 'dirt' in the vase into her rose garden. Unfortunately, the 'dirt' was Frankie's ashes. The ghost of Frankie is now trapped on her property. The adventures of Verity and Frankie (who was a gangster in life) begin. These books are so fun to read. Every ghost-hunting adventure is unique. |
Review featured at www.books-n-kisses.com This is an anniversary release of books 1-3 in the series which I have never read. But now I understand why this was such a beloved series. It is great. I was going to review each book individually but to be honest it is easy to say that while each of these books has their own story they are equally as great. I guess there are 9 books in the series now and I can’t wait to have the time to catch up with all of them. If you are a fan of paranormal with a sense of humor then this is most certainly the series for you. Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. |

Cozy crime and poltergeists Nice light reading, full of southern charm and gangster ghosts. Funny and romantic. Will read more of this series. |
This was a great cozy mystery set it was fast paced, funny, and full of southern charm. The MC Verity is a southern belle down on her luck who just so happens to have a ghost named Frankie a German 1920’s gangster who Verity accidentally tied to an urn she has in her possession. Together they become a crime fighting due as they also investigate ways to release Frankie's bound spirit. The world building and characters are very well done and the humorous dialogue will keep you entertained. I received this book from NetGalley and Moose Island Books for an Honest review. #SouthernSpirits5thAnniversaryDeluxeBoxSet #NetGalley |

I adored this collection. Fast paced, funny, witty, and charming. Will recommend to fans of cozy mysteries and those with paranormal proclivities. |
Angie Fox’s books are always well written and laugh out loud funny! I’ve read a few, so being able to get them in a set and read all of these was fantastic! Verity, Frankie, and the whole gang are so much fun! I look forward to reading more from this author. |

I loved these stories! I have actually had book 1 (Southern Spirits) on my Kindle for awhile, but just hadn't gotten around to reading it. This special edition bundle lured me in, though, and I am glad it did. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series and revisiting Verity, her pet skunk Lucy, her ghost friend Frankie and the rest of her gang of friends, both living and dead. |

This was my first book read by Angie Fox. Other authors I like have recommended her on their FB pages, so I decided to try. I'm so glad I did! I am hooked on this series! this deluxe box set is a great way to get introduced to her Southern Spirits series, about Verity and her resident ghost, Frankie, the 1920's gangster relative of her ex-fiance. I gobbled these 3 stories up. They are fun, fast pasted, engaging. I couldn't put them down. Now my TBR list has to wait until I read the rest in the series! enjoy! |
The Southern Ghost Hunter series by Angie Fox is a fantastic cosy mystery series featuring Verity Long, an intrepid southern belle down on her luck and Frankie the German, the ghost of a 1920’s gangster who Verity has inadvertently tied to an urn she has in her possession. Together they make a reluctant ghost hunting duo albeit mainly down to her prospective boyfriend and town black sheep, Sheriff Ellis Wydell, requesting her help in interviewing any spirits that are hanging around his crime scenes. When they aren’t playing ghostbusters Frankie and Verity are usually trying to find a way of releasing Frankie’s trapped spirit. These books are filled with wonderfully colourful characters with lots of witty and humorous dialogue. The mystery element is just enough to grab your attention without being overly gruesome and spoiling the whole fun vibe of the books. Throw in a side of romance with the whole “are they/aren’t they” scenario, this series covers everything. It’s definitely one I hope continues for a long time Southern Spirits is the first book in the Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries by Angie Fox. It features Verity Long, a skunk owning graphic designer who is now considered an outcast in home town after she left the favourite son of the town’s matriarch standing at the altar after she found out he was cheating on her. Now she has days to find $20,000 or lose her family home. Her life goes from bad to worse when she accidentally traps the spirit of Frankie the German, a gangster from the 1920’s on her property. What follows is an amusing tale filled with humorous dialogue and a mystery featuring poltergeists, ghosts and murder with an underlying hint of forbidden romance as Verity tries to raise the money to save her home This was the first book from Angie Fox that I have read but it certainly won’t be the last. The concept of a ghost as a partner is a novel idea and I’m interested in seeing how the relationship develops not only between Verity and Frankie but between Verity and Ellis as well especially once his mother finds out – she just might give the poltergeist a run for her money. A Ghostly Gift is a novella in the Southern Ghost Hunter mysteries. Verity Long is a reluctant ghost hunter but when a friend of her sister’s offers her free furniture as a fee for solving the little ‘haunting’ problem in her shop, considering all she has is a futon to her name what else is a girl going to say but yes. There really isn’t much of mystery to this book. It’s more a sad, sweet story of true love spanning 70 years but ultimately with a happy ending that left me with a small lump in my throat. A fantastic addition to the series. In The Skeleton in the Closet, Verity and her sidekick Frankie the German are once again reluctantly drawn into helping her “is he/isn’t he boyfriend” Sheriff Ellis Wydell solve another murder with the aid of Sugarland’s spirit world. An added incentive this time is the involvement of her sister Melody as a prime suspect. What follows is the exposure of a centuries old cover up which has the added bonus of humiliating her arch enemy as Verity makes friends with the ghosts of some civil war soldiers as well as playing matchmaker for them. This is a fantastic addition to the Southern Ghost Hunter mysteries. The humorous dialogue between Verity and Frankie makes me smile as I read it and the plot line involving murder and long hidden secrets definitely kept me guessing . Can’t wait to read the next book in the series. |
5 stars for this, it was brilliant I have to admit I wouldn't last five minutes in Sugarland. I wouldn't mind going for a visit though. This is the first time I've read any of the Southern Spirits books but it won't be the last. A great read. Recommended. |
In my opinion, everyone should read a fun cozy mystery once in a while! I sure do read one a few times a year when I feel low or need a gap from the usual serious stuff... they get me to a good place with their coziness, humour and the cutesy pets... if you’re looking for such fun, quirky, sassy female lead with a pinch of funny paranormal mystery, look no more!! Southern Spirits is a combination of more than everything mentioned above. Its like a feel good read, with fun ghosts and mysteries! Verity can see ghosts and along with her pet Lucy - the skunk (yess, you read that right, a skunk as a pet!!! - more a reason to read cozy mysteries) forms a plan to send them where they actually belong. Every hero needs a sidekick (or a hero-support like they say in Sky High 😅😉). Verity has an actual ghost as a heroine-support that helps with her mission!! This book is a bundle of lighthearted cozy merriment!! Thanks to Netgalley, Angie Fox and Moose Island books for the ARC bundle. This review is my own and is not influenced in any way. |
I absolutely love this series, I hadn't read A Ghostly Gift and i did now! Even though I have the next books, it still took me back to where this series began. I love Verity and Frankie... |
Want to read something different and fun? Do you love paranormal ghost stories that will not make you feel spooky, but instead make you laugh? Do you like creative writing? Do you want to escape in the storyline and continue to book 4 after all this set is done? If yes.... Read this book set now! You won't regret you did! |

I love this series, and I'm so excited that this boxed set is available for the first three books. The stories are fun. The stories revolved around Verity Long. She inherits a family home, but runs into trouble right away. Her former fiancée's mother has taken legal action against Verity for cancelling her wedding to her son. Verity is forced to sell many family belongings from the home to pay the court costs and the wedding vendors. Verity inadvertently dumps an urn of ashes into her rosebushes, which in turn results in her being haunted by Frankie, a former gangster from the 1920's. Frankie can help Verity connect with the spirit world and becomes her somewhat unwilling sidekick. These three stories are funny, laugh out loud funny. I really love the hijinks in the books and I really love the whole series. Many times, Verity is having to solve past issues, to help spirits causing problems move on. There is mystery, romance, adventure and humor in every story. I would highly recommend this boxed set and the entire series to anyone who enjoys a funny cozy mystery series. Thanks to #NetGalley and the publishers for a copy of this set in exchange for my honest opinion. Bonus - 50 extra pages not previously in the other editions!! |
This is a fun series. A cozy paranormal book set that was quirky and creative. Verity, who can see ghosts and is tasked with sending them to where they belong, makes for a very interesting fun character. The characters are filled with spunk (even the skunk!) and the mysteries are smooth reads. |
This was my introduction to this author and I am so happy to have had the opportunity to read this boxed set from NetGalley! The stories are unique and the characters are well developed. Verity is a wonderful mixture of kind, sweet and sassy! Her interactions with the ghosts added a unique twist to solving the book’s mysteries. Lucy, the skunk, as a pet just made my smile! I highly recommend picking up this series! |

Really good read was quite funny in some parts . Would recommend this author and book was very good . Highly recommend . |
I really loved this series. I am a huge fan of cozy paranormal books and this was top notch. It is really nice to get all three books in one set. I love Verity, who can see ghosts and is tasked with sending them to where they belong. Her sidekick is an actual ghost. The characters are filled with charm and the mysteries are great. Verity is a well written character and the mysteries have well developed plots. |
These were really fun stories. I enjoyed the characters and their relationships. I definitely found new series to follow. |
I would give these 3.5 stars if that was a possibility. I have never read any of the Southern Spirits mysteries but I'm glad I was given this box set from Netgalley for my honest review. These are cute and entertaining cozy mysteries that are fun to read. Verity is an interesting character and her having a pet skunk is a wonderful quirky addition. The addition of the ghosts and how she is able to see them is an interesting idea I haven't come across before. The backstory of everyone is nicely explained so you aren't wondering who someone is until book 3 either. The extras included in the box set are a nice addition that gives you a look at how the author can change things up when something isn't fitting into the story correctly. I will be picking up the rest of the books in the series one at a time as I need something fun and lighthearted to read. |
