I had a blast reading this story. The illustrations were wonderful and really helped bring so many scenes to life. The characters were very good and the story was a lot of fun to watch unfold. When someone hits their breaking point, it helped a character learn a good lesson. If you are a fan of these books then you won’t want to miss this one.

Little Rude Riding Hood learns a lesson in manners when she is sent to take cakes to her grandma. It was cute, although the resolution of how she learned her lesson might have been "fast."

This is a creative retelling of a classic with cute illustrations. Most of us have heard the story of Little Red Riding Hood about the little girl that visits her grandmother only to find the wolf has gotten her. There are some version of it and this is a new twist with a lesson about how to be nice instead of rude. This time the little girl is rude. She doesn’t want to say the polite words such as please and thank-you. She has bad manners and doesn’t understand she is being rude — not being nice to others. Will she change from Little Rude to Little Red by the end of the story? This is a little longer story than I expected. It is not a chapter book, but it is not a preschool rhyming book either. It has a few sentences in a paragraph or two with the illustrations to tell the story. It is a refreshing change to what you might expect. This is helpful in teaching a variety of lessons in a fun way while also getting conversations started about manners. It is also part of a series. There are four other books in the twisted fairy tales series. I will be searching for them.

little rude riding hood by jo franklin, retells the classic fairy tale story of little red riding hood. it begins with a little girl named Rude who—as the name suggests—was ill-mannered and truly rude. she indeed had the worse conduct for a child. when her grandmother sent her a red jacket with a hood, she refused to write her a thank-you letter, but later was convinced by her parents to visit grandmother on her birthday and deliver her some cakes. on her way, Rude came across Mr. Wolf, priory called 'The Bad Wolf' but now—since he's working on his anger management—is simply known as Mr. Wolf. Rude bumps into the wolf, hurting him and at the same time refusing to be sorry. then, she came across Mrs. Rabbit, behaving very insolently with her and as usual didn't bother to regret it. later, she met the woodcutter who was carrying Mr. Wolf, Mrs. Rabbit to grandmother's house and would very much carry her too, had she uttered the magical word. but she didn't; rather she teased the poor man. but Rude at last reaches grandmother's house and there she finally learns her lessons in the most unexpected way.

i took this book particularly to read it out to my students. they're 6—7 years old and i thought all of them would enjoy it very much. i am writing this review, based on their analysis.

1. Rude was too ill-mannered, and most of my students didn't like that fact. i felt the author went overboard with her dialogues; it didn't feel like the words of a child.

2. the lesson provided at the end wasn't satisfactory as a person can never learn manners just by staying in the dark. so, the ending was flat.

3. i wouldn't expect any kind of twists in a children's book, but one of my students read the little red riding hood, and she pointed out one thing : where's little Rude's wits? she was just witless and ill-mannered.
and i kind of agreed. Rude could be a bit intelligent, and rescue herself from a grave lesson provided.

so these were a few points that could have been better, but nevertheless i, on the other hand enjoyed this book very much. this was my first Twisted Fairy Tales, and I'm looking forward to read more of it.

I requested and received an e-ARC of this book from NetGalley and Arcturus Publishing in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this fairy tale retelling of the Little Red Riding Hood! In this book Little Rude is one rude kid; she is rude to her parents, her grandma, and every creature she meets on the way to grandma’s house. Little Rude thinks that manners are unnecessary until the Wolf who has been going to anger management classes and can’t handle her behavior any longer puts her in her place. Loved the ending. Keep the Twisted Fairy Tales coming!

An interesting take on the traditional red riding hood story, with little rude riding hood not having any manners.

This was a cute story overall that had a good morale lesson. Little Rude was incredibly rude indeed! After a series of events in which she chose rudeness over better behavior, Little Rude sees the consequences of her actions. I really enjoyed the illustration style, and writing.

A re-writing of a fairy tale. All the same characters but a new twist as the story tells of a little girl who has no manners.
Jo Franklin has written a well structured account of what happens to you when you are rude and ignore the feelings of others.
The little girl gets a beautiful red coat from her Grandma but even then she cannot write a thank- you letter. Her mother and father did not bring her up this way and despair that she has become known as Little Rude Riding Hood.
One day she is asked to take some bread and cakes baked especially for Grandma’s birthday. Reluctantly she agrees to go and the last thing she is told is to remember her manners in all the encounters she has and is respectful of the people she meets.
The Big Bad Wolf is trying to improve his image and is attending anger management classes. He is sorely tried to slip into bad wolf when little rude girl bumps into him. Immediately you wish Ill on her as she shows no empathy or consideration on her trip to grandma’s house. Despite getting lost she has no humility or grace to ask the way politely to the animals she meets.
You feel sorry for her grandma that if she ever makes it to her pretty cottage she’ll ruin her birthday.
While I can think of a few ways to resolve this tale the writer tries to stick to the spirit of the original and share a lesson or two to the young impressionable children listening, looking at the great colourful illustration or following the words.

I read this book to my kids at home, as well as to a group of a students I was working on comprehension with at school. All the kids thought that Rude was a great character. When Rude made rude comments, there was lots of discussion about what she said, if it was a nice thing to say, what she could've said instead, etc. This book was a perfect length for my 6 and 9 year olds bed time read aloud. It had a great lesson with it, but was also laugh out loud funny. Great book!

Free copy given in return for an honest review Netgallery.

This book Follows the well known character of little red riding hood but as she has never learnt any manners in this story we know her as “little rude”. The story has a good balance of keeping the children interested but also delivering an important message of being kind using manners. As little rude goes about being mean and rude to others I found my own children feeling sorry for the other characters in the story and recognising that her behaviour was “not nice”. This book could certainly be used to help children develop an understanding of empathy towards others and how we might feel in these situations, all while still enjoying a twist on a traditional tale.
The pictures in the book are used well and appropriate for the age range that this book would be aimed at, and the writing the author has used remains child friendly.
Overall I’d say this book is a good story, but perhaps not one that you’d find yourself reading over and over again due to the lack of ability for children to interact with the story such as rhymes, repeated phrases etc.

Jo Franklin's retelling of Little Red Riding Hood is adorable. Little Rude thinks being rude and having bad manners is fun. It is interesting to see how the Wolf, who is working on his anger management, turns Little Rude back into Little Red. Great lesson on manners and how they affect people's response to you. My granddaughter loved retelling the story to her Mom and Dad.
Thanks so much NetGalley and Arcturs Publishing!

"Little Rude Riding Hood" teaches children about manners by taking a classic story and presenting it from a different point of view. Generations of children know that the Big Bad Wolf tried to eat Little Red Riding Hood, but this book asks the question of whether she had it coming. Fun book!

It was a lovely read. The rudeness of the little red riding hood was done a bit overdone, but it gets its message delivers beautifully. It will definitely make a nice addition to young children's bookshelves.

Oh, what a twist on the original Little Red Riding Hood story! This time, Little Red is very rude and has bad manners, and she encounters a wolf who's been taking lessons to control his temper. It's both funny and educational, and I absolutely loved the swap of traditional roles here, with a helpful wolf and rude little girl. There's a good lesson in the story, I think it's both very fun and educational story. The illustrations are rather lovely. Highly recommend.
