In the short sampler I read we meet Norah who has had to leave her old life behind and found herself thrust into an elite school courtesy of her rich grandparents. Norah’s old life couldn’t be more of contrast to that of Chelsea High and her peers who include socialites and people who are regularly featured in Tatler Magazine. However, with her father facing charges against him and her grandparents have stepped in and with that Norah has been sent to a new school. In this brief teaser we see Norah’s first days at school and her encounters with queen bee Coco and her friendship group. She struggles immediately fit in but notices the cool and aloof Ezra. 

Its hard to rate a book based on such a brief reading from it but I did enjoy what I did read. I have read Jenny Oliver’s adult stories before and have enjoyed them so I was keen to see her foray into YA. From this synopsis it sounds like this story will follow the route of a sweet romance between Ezra and Norah as they are cast opposite each other in the school play. I kind of hope this is the way it goes as I’m a sucker for a good YA romance. I also assume we are going to see resistance from Coco and her friends and its clear from what I did read Coco too had her eyes on Ezra. I am also looking forward to reading the full book and getting a little glimpse into how the wealthier live and how different their experiences at school are.

A wonderful young adult read that can easily be enjoyed by those much older. I enjoyed this and it was nice to break away from my normal genre

I think this was a good read, I enjoyed it. I think Jenny is a good writer and the story has a lot of potential (I received a sampler), I'd definitely recommend this to a younger reader and think this has a very interesting concept. I think, however, I may be a little old for this and there were quite a few cliche's but regardless, I think I'd read the whole book and give it a go.

A fun summer read for young adult romance fans. I wasn't personally a fan of the crossover between the american/uk school system, it didn't really work for me.

I was so disappointed with this sample! It felt like the author used all the typical American high school cliches but was then asked to make it fit for a posh English private school (which didn’t work in my opinion). Unfortunately I didn’t love the writing style and I had no connection with any of the characters. 

Just not for me I’m afraid.

This was an interesting first look at this novel. I think so many people will love this book, but unfortunately this book isn't going to be for me.

This is a great taster for what seems like it'll be a great read. I'm looking forward to reading the whole thing. The characters are interesting and I'd like to find out what happens next.

Chelsea High is an interesting concept following Norah joining and elite private school after her father is involved in a fraudulent scheme that sees the family ousted from their small town, close knit community. I enjoyed the feel of the school and the contrast to Norah's old life and I also seeing Norah's point of view as she ventured into this new world. The extract fell a little flat for me when it came to the other school children in the book - they all seemed like caricature stereotypes that I couldn't gel with. I'd still be interested in reading the rest of the story when it's released as I think the story itself has some interesting topics to deal with.

I read a sample of this from NetGalley and I have to say I quiet enjoyed it. It's very Gilmore Girls meets Gossip Girl but set within the UK. The character of Norah isnt one I can necessarily relate to but ahes a character I instantly liked.
The group of mean girls is a little cliche and stereotypical, but can easily be overlooked. I'm excited to see where the rest of the book goes. I have my hunches, and I look forward to seeing if they're correct.

This short sample was a fun, quick read. I personally really like the themes of exclusive societies and academia, so the synopsis really appealed to me and I couldn’t wait to read it. 

However, I was a bit disappointed that it was full of the stereotypes of school. Maybe the characters develop throughout the story ,but i only have the sampler to go off. There were understandably punctuation and paragraphing errors which I expect will be rectified in the final copy. And when I first started reading I was confused as i was just  thrust straight into the school day, no introduction. I kept trying to look for previous pages that didn’t exist. I am unsure whether the chapter provided was the first or not. But if it is the first, it shouldn’t be. I feel that my reading experience would have been better if I knew the characters name, family, background etc before everything else. Although, this may be to make the reader feel just as confused as the narrator........ maybe.

Would I pick up the final copy?
Possibly. I feel this book has the potential to be a enjoyable, lighthearted summer read.

After reading my extract from NetGalley I really enjoyed the book and I cannot wait to see what happens in the rest of it. The complexity of the characters is well developed and the storyline is very interesting. I hope the rest of the book is amazing as well.

Oh, poor Norah, she's really going though it. I really want to know how things work out for her and her poor dad...he seems like a good person who naively got caught up in a bad situation. Being forced to go to a private school, losing most of her old friends because of her dad's unfortunate situation and having to spend her Sunday's with her estranged grandparents (I feel like there are going to be some funny moments with that - the couch scene with them was hysterical and I think I found it more funny than I was supposed to) must be so difficult. There are a lot of likeable characters in Chelsea High; I'd love to hear more about Daniel, who is much more interested in correcting Norah's grammar than the fact that her dad could go to prison. I like Jenny Oliver's writing style already and Chelsea high is absolutely my kind of book. Would buy/recommend.

A fun, well written sampler! I can’t provide a full review based on the sampler, but the more I read the more I enjoyed it.. I love the sound of the school, I think everyone would love school if they’re all like  Chelsea High! 

The main character Norah seems interesting enough and has an intriguing background/family drama I’d love to know more about. The side characters are compelling enough with the classic mean girl  and her sidekick, and possibly every high schooler stereotype. 

If you like books based around boarding schools and a possible cutesy teen romance you’ll probably like this!

Good sampler, well written and very interesting synopsis for the story. Can't say much about the story just yet but I'm interested and will be reading more in June when it's released!

Chapter sampler of this book gives a snippet of what looks to be a fun and funny fish out of water story of Norah's experience at an exclusive new school. A few laughs in the sample, so looking forward to seeing what the full book is like.

Hard to judge as this was just a snippet of the book. It's got potential to be a book that sucks you in if you like high school popular boy meets new girl romance stories. Would be interested to read more and see where it goes

This is more of an extract of a book so hence why the review won't be a full one.
The story seems like it might become interesting and yet it feels a little staged and cliched. If you are after escapism and a story about a quirky girl and a hot, posh guy at a private school then maybe this is the book for you but I must admit I wasn't exactly blown away. Sorry

‚Chelsea High’ seems to be a great book about a girl who has to change schools and thanks to her rich and estranged grandparents lands in a really posh high school. There she meets Ezra the most popular boy at school and she falls for him.  What happens next I have no idea since it was only a sample of one chapter but I can tell you that it got me properly engrossed in the book. I would love to read the whole bit. Great for fans of Louise Rennison and Holly Smale.
