A sudden chance meeting set up by the gods of Fate, while Dom is waiting for a source for his story in a coffee shop, Dom runs into Mia who is back from Illinois after ten years. The story is uplifting, heartwarming, lots of great subplot within the story, and the book read like a Hollywood movie – and what a great movie that would be. It was such a great story that when I started, literally read through in a sitting – it was that amazing!

I really liked an earlier title from these writers and though I knew this wasn’t suspense, I gave it a go. Interesting concept but one I’d seen before, reliving a day again and again to try to change the outcome, but I’ve seen it done better by Lauren Oliver. Dom, the main character, annoys me the whole way through, playing it too safe and making bad decisions. Mia seemed a lot more likable even when she made bad decisions. But the kicker for me was the ending. What was all this for then?

I really liked the idea of this book and thought the storyline was really unique and fun but I do tend to have a hard time with repetition in a book. The "time loop" element added a lot of repetition so I ended up feeling less and less interested as the book went on. I also didn't bond with any of the characters (probably because they didn't have time to develop because the same day was starting over and over again). I did love the writing style and I will definitely check out other books by this author.

Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke always write fantastic books, and they certainly don’t disappoint in How to Save A Life. This book is easily in my Too 3 books that they have written.

Picture a book version of Bill Murray’s Groundhog Day, only much more tragic, and you will have a general idea of the plot of How to Save A Life. It goes so much deeper than that, though. This book dives deep into the life of the main protagonist, Dominic, and follows his journey as he learns to let go of his past to allow new possibilities for his future. Unfortunately for Dominic, his adventure takes the form of living the same tragic day over and over again.

The characters in this book are very well written. Dominic is very set in his ways and is reluctant to change, though not totally unwilling. He is extremely against taking risks. Mia, on the other hand, is almost the exact opposite. Her entire life is ever changing and full of risks. She is one that can and will pack up and leave at a moment’s notice. Their differences make for very interesting interactions.

I feel that How to Save a Life has a perfect ending. It is both heartbreaking and hopeful. It is a complete ending, although it leaves a very important question unanswered - how/why did all of this happen?

I know I'm in the minority, and I know that I've loved Liz and Lisa in the past, but I just did not care for this book. At all. By the third Thursday I found myself skipping ahead because the description was so monotonous. Dom was an awful person; I did not like him at all. Also, I think it's great that L&L chose to use a Latino character, but felt a lot of his description was stereotypical and really didn't need to be. To me, it would have been better to use a white character than to use a Latino male full of stereotypes. I didn't see this mentioned in any of the reviews I read so maybe I was oversensitive to this.

Also, Mia. Why? What was SO great about their relationship that he drives himself crazy (literally--the hospital scene?) to save her. Granted, I'd save anyone that I could, but he puts her on a pedestal and we're never really told why. If their relationship was so great, he should have married her at the beginning.

The ending: don't get me started.

I look forward to more from L&L. I was happy to see them step away from the thriller genre, as I like their women's fiction much more. I wanted to like this, but it just wasn't for me.

I received an advance copy. All thoughts are my own.

A quick, easily digestible read with fun banter and likable characters.

The plot was rather thin but overall this was an enjoyable book written by fabulous women.

This was my 4th book by this duo, and though it wasn’t my favorite of those I’ve already read, it did have a unique story line and held my interest throughout. I can’t quite put my finger on what it was lacking, but there was just something missing or off to me. Maybe it’s because I can’t imagine very many men being hung up on one woman for 10 years. I did love that I was left guessing until the last few pages to figure out how it all would end!

I thought the premise of this book was a very interesting concept. Unfortunately, I thought it fell a little flat. I didn't connect with the characters enough to be emotionally invested in the outcome. The writing was engaging and kept me interested, though. Overall I felt it was a solid, well written book, but I just found something lacking.

This was my first book by this pair and it definitely won’t be my last. I started it and it just kept getting better and better. What a great ending! I will definitely be recommending this one!

You don't have to be a fan of the movie Groundhog Day to enjoy this book, but it definitely helps, as authors Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke cleverly pay homage to this classic in their newest book How to Save a Life.

Dom let Mia get away 10 years ago because he wasn't ready to commit, but when he encounters her again, he knows he has a chance to win her back. She dies tragically on that date, but he wakes up the next day with the chance to try again - to prevent it from happening. It's a theme we've seen before, but it's an engaging play on the theme.

Many thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.

I was really attracted to the idea/premise of this book and whilst it was an emotional and tense groundhog day style story, it unfortunately just fell a bit short for me.
I struggled to really like and invest in the main characters or their (somewhat lack of and lukewarm) romance, and therefore found the story dragging a bit in some places probably due to my lack of caring for them and whether they would get their second chance (or if they really should)!
The ending was a bit of a let down also (felt like we went through a lot for nothing) but I kind of predicted it. Overall an easy read that was well written, finished this one in a few hours.
Thanks!

What would it be like to re-live the same day over and over in which you watch the love of your life tragically die again and again. You'll find yourself as compulsive as Dom to find a way to save Mia. This may be my favorite book by them to date!

I was super grateful to receive an early review copy of this book, but the premise was just not for me. I got very tired of reading about one person dying over and over in so many different awful ways. The book was very original, but, again, just not my cup of tea.

I was really into this book for quite some time, but I felt it went on a little longer than needed. Thanks to NetGalley for an advanced copy.

I love the writing duo that is Liz Fenton. How to Save a Life is a book that is a loose interpretation of groundhog day. I loved the well written characters in this book, Dom and Mia. This book that crosses genres, romance, mystery . Well written story that kept me turning the pages. Another hit from this writing team.

The repeating days trope is really hit or miss. This was a miss for me. I was getting really bored after about the second repeat. I wish he would have learned more or taken more from this but it was just super repetitive and easily lost interest. Also to find out we went through all of that for pretty much no reason made me a bit irritated.

Despite knowing the premise of How To Save A Life, it took more than half the book to figure out what I was reading. And that I truly liked it!

Dominic and Mia got engaged 10 years ago. In "it's not you, it's me" fashion, Dom breaks off the engagement and they don't see each other for several years. A chance meeting years later brings Mia back into Dom's life, but thereafter he begins to relieve a specific Thursday multiple times in a row. Each with similar incidents but all ending with Mia dying tragically. Dom needs to figure out why he's stuck in a time loop and how to save Mia from her various fatalities - of which he is the only one aware.
This is not a rom-com, thriller or sci-fi. I can't actually categorize it's genre, but it's unique and well-written and brings about a tear or two. This is the second book I've read by authors Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke and am again impressed.
Recommended for those who like their contemporary romances unconventional!

Imagine living your life like groundhog and living it over and over.

Small details may change but the outcome is always going to be the same. Imagine the love of your life dying each time. Every day Dom tries to save Mia from dying, but every time he fails. Dom continues to be devastated and just wants to figure out how to save Mia.

Well.. I really wanted to love this one but unfortunately it missed the mark for me and felt like it was really just missing something. I feel like the romance fell a bit flat between the two and was having a hard time believing the romance between the two. I just wasn't really invested in the two as the story went on so it just felt pretty meh to me.

But, the writing was definitely wonderful. I feel like the overall message here was truly well done.

When I read the synopsis of this book, I knew I wanted it o read it! A groundhogs day type of romance where the main character is trying to prevent the death of his long lost love? Sold, count me in! Thankfully, this book lived up to my expectations!

It’s so rare to find a well written romance where the main character is a male, so I was pleasantly surprised that this didn’t have multiple POVs. How To Save A Life is told solely through Dom’s perspective as he tries desperately to save Mia’s life. I thought that the characters & storyline were well thought out and developed, and that although we relived the same events over and over, the story was set at a great pace to keep you engaged throughout the repetitiveness.

While some things about this were quite predictable (I mean he is living the same events over every day), I was still surprised along the way. During the first part of the book I felt a bit anxious waiting for that trap door to open, you know Mia will die but I was on pins and needles waiting to figure out HOW she would. Then as we got further into the story, I started to feel anxious for Dom and what his future would hold if he did make it to Friday with some of the situations he got himself into.

This was a new take on romance, for me, and I completely enjoyed it! I loved the supernatural/magical element of re-living the same day and felt that each take on the new day felt fresh and new (without slowing down the story), allowing me, as a reader, to get to know the characters more and more. There are some heavy topics addressed that I felt added more substance to the love story, really giving more depth to the characters and their relationships.
