This book was compelling and intriguing. It kept my interest.
The building of the tension was done very well.

There was absolutely nothing thrilling about this read to me i'm sorry to say. Jake was an absolutely hideous character so to see him culpable for everything at the end was not a shock. I am happy to see he went to prison at the end

A win on the lottery is what most people dream off but this story shows what can happen when you do. It can change your life and this story looks at what happens when a family win. The main character Lexi is the only character I liked as the others were self-centred and greed got to them. The second half of the story had twists and turns but the ending surprise me. Overall a good enjoyable read.

A bit of a slow burner but it really works in building the characters and tension so that it becomes very gripping. Great ending, didn't expect it.

Be careful what you wish for.......

This is a provocative tale of secrets, lies and greed laced with tension and suspense. Lexi won big on the lottery just over a week after leaving the syndicate they were in for years with their friends following a fall out. Their lives change overnight, Lexi wants to do good and tries to help Tomo who has lost it all and Jake her husband becomes selfish and frivolous with so much Impulsive and overzealous spending. This story was riddled with anxiety provoking dramas along the way as their friends each try to stake their claim which enriches the otherwise monotone plot.
Thankyou to NetGalley and HQ for my ARC in return for an honest review.

What a cracker. Grabbed me from the get go and took me on a wild ride. Great character building and a tightly plotted, neat thriller. Loved it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this twisty, gripping slow burn of a psychological thriller. Very clever plot and excellent characters. I liked the way the chapters alternated between 2 characters' viewpoints. A real page turner.
With grateful thanks to NetGalley and HQ for my copy in exchange for an honest review.

How often do we dream about winning the lottery and how we would share our winnings? Part of a syndicate that have never won more than £10 until there is a rift in the group. The next week Lexi and Jake do the unthinkable and win£18m!! The other couples think they have a right to the money! A lifelong dream becomes a nightmare.

Just my luck has such a strong concept and plot, written but the fabulous Adele Parks. She exposed my anxiety and frustration. I hadn’t predicted the ending. A good read and a solid 3.5 stars.

I really really enjoyed this!I really enjoyed the premise centering around wining the ridiculous amount of money on the lottery - I'm sure it's something that a lot of people have imagined or dreamed of happening! It was definitely a twisty read and it kept me gripped - I really enjoyed the way it ended too. I didn't see some of the twists that happened and thought they were really were integrated into the story! I'd definitely recommend this book!

I received an ARC of this book thanks to NetGalley and publisher HQ in exchange for an honest review.

Just My Luck is a fantastic domestic drama book about what happens when one family wins the lottery. That sounds like a fairly simple premise and it is, but therein lies the strength. When Lexi wins 18 million in the lottery, she can't believe her luck. Unfortunately just the week before, she was part of a syndicate with her friends who now feel that they are owed a share of the money. On top of that, her husband seems unable to control his spending and it is causing cracks in the relationship. Determined to use the money for good, Lexi must weigh her own values and desires against those of the people around her.

I wasn't sure going in if this book was a thriller or not, and to be honest I'm still not entirely sure. It lacks 'someone messing with the main character' or other hallmarks of a thriller, but there are definitely twists and turns to be found here and many of the characters have secrets. I think if you usually enjoy thrillers then you should check this out, although be aware it's not entirely typical of the genre.

This book had a great sense of pace and it always felt like there was something going on which was very engaging. The main drama of the book is actually not entirely focused on the syndicate and I very much appreciated that as it would have been a bit weak to drive the whole story. Instead there are a lot of different intricate personal dramas going on and plenty of stories driving the plot, with each character feeling fleshed out and like they had their own motivations. I never quite knew how things were going to play out and that was very enjoyable. My only complaint is that one particular plot point is benched for most of the book and I kept thinking about how interesting it would be to see how the characters involved in that were reacting to what was going on. It felt like a bit of a missed opportunity.

Overall, Just My Luck is a great summer book and a gripping story with a lot to offer a reader. It's not too heavy if you're not a thriller fan but it still manages to create a sense of tension and keep you invested with the story. I'm very glad I took a chance and requested it.

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

A domestic thriller about a syndicate lottery win that goes wrong. It was an enjoyable read but I found some of the violence disturbing especially as a young girl was involved. I like Adele Parks books and will read more.

@adele_parks was one of the first “grown up” authors that Kirsty started to read when she was in her teenage years. We’ve both read and enjoyed a lot of Adele’s books and the blurb on this really drew me in after all, hasn’t everyone at one point in there life imagined winning the lottery? ⁣

The story follows the lives of Lexi and Jake and their close friends the Pearson’s and the Heathcote’s. Lexi and Jake win the lottery, just under £18,000,000, one week after their syndicate split up. This is the story of what happens when your dream of winning the lottery comes true and all the trials and tribulations that come along with it. ⁣

The dynamics between the three families reminded me of a book I read a couple of years ago - The Holiday by TM Logan. You think you get to know everyone but there’s always a character who surprises you. The lives of Lexi and Jake change literally overnight and with it so did Jake’s character. Their reaction to winning the sum of money couldn’t be more opposite. Where Lexi didn’t immediately want to leave her job or buy expensive things, Jake had a Ferrari sitting outside. ⁣

Having never won the lottery I’ve never really looked into what might be the process so I took that aspect of the book at face value. The transformation in Jake was mostly greed and intense superiority that followed the win. He became really dislikable for me and didn’t seem to really care about anyone other than himself. ⁣

The majority of the story follows the win, the legal issues and the initial spending sprees so when the plot twist near the end occurred it felt a bit of a whirlwind and rushed straight though to the end with abhorrent actions taken by one of the characters that are quite hard to associate with their family role. All in all I felt hooked reading this - like watching an accident happen almost - and wasn’t sure how it would pan out.

Good domestic thriller I thought with a nice cast of characters and storyline, didn’t have me enthralled or anything to be honest (sorry) but I enjoyed the book all the same, I do prefer some of her previous offerings though this one was a good read and maybe it’s just me been picky 🙈 I would still recommend it to others though as I think maybe I’m just overdosed on this genre, dunno, a good read though just not as thrilling as I thought it would be from the blurb.

Well hello there!
Its been a while but im pleased to day I feel like I am back in the book game and so happy I've now finished a book.

#JustMyLuck by @adele_parks was a complete joy to read.

I instantly took the to the main character, Lexi, and her kind, caring nature which just showed time and time again throughtout the story.

Lexi, her husband and their four closest friends have been playing a lotto syndicate for years... no-one ever believes they will actually win but just has luck would have it, as the two other couples pull out, Lexi and Jake win big.

The story then starts with them, as you can imagine would happen, arguing and claiming rights to their equal shares. For a moment, I wondered where the story was going.. I was more intrigued in the sub story of Lexi helping Toma find out who killed his family with their dodgy maintenance than I was of Jake spending his fortunes.

But, as the book progressed more twists and turns followed.
Without spoiling it too much, the things that happened were well written and thought out and I was surprised to find Toma's story eventually linked to the main plot with Lexi's family secrets.

I wasn't surprised by Jake and his tricks, Adele Parks for me wrote his character in a way that set out from the beginning that you just knew he was alway up to something.

Overall, Just My Luck was an enjoyable page turner showing the highs and lows of love vs ⁵.

I found this utterly depressing! I can’t deny that Adele Parks knows how to write a good story, this was just too good. I can completely see how twisted a potter win could get, maybe (or hopefully) not as twisted and dark as this but you could tell what the outcome would be early on there were no great shocks to this.
I don’t think it helped that not a single person in this story was likeable, maybe Toma, but he was a small enough character with a big part of the story that you’d forget about him.
Just My Luck definitely makes you hope to never win the lottery! Clever writing from Adele Parks.... again!

Adele parks is one of my favourite UK authors and yes I like this but maybe it wasn't her best.
It's a good domestic thriller with an original plot and good array of characters but for me it was just lacking depth and in times was a bit far from reality. After saying that it is a good page tuner and its an addictive read . it reminded me a bit of the BBC programme the syndicate so if you enjoyed the series this is one for you!

I've read a lot of Adele Park's books and although I enjoyed this book it was not one of her best. A struggled to connect with the characters and found the storyline a bit far fetched,

Brilliant. This was a well written book that I greatly enjoyed and already plan to recommend. Believable characters and an inticing setting. Some parts were perhaps a little lengthy, but maybe because I was impatient to reach the novels conclusion! Thank you Netgalley for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

You win the lottery? Hooray! All is sorted in life......? Of course not! Very interesting and clever take. Some horrid characters and you’ll be absolutely sucked in from the start. After all....we’ve all thought about this, eh?!
