We've all dreamed about our numbers coming up. About financial insecurity being a thing of the past. But does money really bring happiness? Be careful what you wish for.

A clever and compelling novel.

Lexi and Jake win 17 million on the lottery. They have been putting it on for years with two other couples . But just before the win there is a falling out between them and they pull out of the syndicate. But the couples believe they are owed some of if . The money changes the whole family and people’s views of them change.
This is told from different view points.
Good read
Thanks NetGalley

I absolutely love Adele Parks and once again Just my Luck did not disappoint.
I enjoyed the characters and I felt the storyline was well written and thought out. It really gives you insight into the different way people my deal with big money wins and how it changes you. It definitely brought home the fact money doesn’t buy happiness. Highly recommend reading, a great summer read.

Reading stories in the press about huge lottery wins always concerns me. I know it makes good news, but you never hear of someone winning a life-changing amount of money and enjoying it. You only hear of those who squander the winnings or how people become a target for all manner of scams. Though we know this, and how low the chances of winning actually are, there’s probably a good number of people who think about what they’d do if they had such a win.
In Just My Luck we follow a regular couple who suddenly find themselves nearly £18 million better off. Lexi is fairly cautious, wanting to invest wisely and use the money to make a difference. Her big indulgence is to buy some Teapigs tea! Her husband, Jake, is the ultimate stereotype. His first act - even before they have the money - is to buy a top Ferrari and to buy his way out of whatever comes up. It’s not hard to take quite a dislike to him, and as the story progresses he was increasingly infuriating.
One of the first issues this seemingly normal couple has is the insistence from some friends that they were a syndicate and, as such, should be sharing the money. From this point on we see the money drives a wedge between the family.
Most of the family has secrets, some of which have more of an impact than others. The story took something of a detour with the character of Toma, but the links are outlined eventually. Things got awfully dark, and a substantial part of this book had me wondering whether people really could be so awful in reality. Even the characters we were meant to root for were secretive, and some of them were so horrendous that it made me want to ban the lottery forever.
Thanks to NetGalley for granting me access to this before publication, and I’d definitely recommend this read - even as a salutary lesson to readers.

What would you do if you won the lottery? Does it depend on the amount of money that you win? Lexi and Jake have been in a syndicate with their friends the Pearsons and the Heathcotes for years, but the other two families pull out the week before they win big.

Then chaos ensues. What follows is a gripping story about money and greed. With a plot twist right towards the end that I didn't see coming it's a fabulous book.

Thanks to Netgalley and HQ for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

3.5 stars.

Jake and Lexi have been married for around 20 years and have a couple of teenaged children. They are in a lottery syndicate with 2 other couples who abruptly leave the syndicate the week before Jake and Lexi buy the winning ticket with the same 6 numbers the group had played every week. Then there are disputes about whether those other couples actually left the group or not.

I loved the concept of this book. My husband is still in an office lottery club at a place he hasn't worked for 15 years for fear that they will win when he leaves the group. I think this book gives an interesting look at the downside of a lottery win, how you can get greedy and others think they are entitled to share in your winnings. I thought it rambled a bit too long though. There were some interesting storylines but honestly I felt myself just wanting to skim and get through it so by the time I got to the end, I wasn't as excited by the reveals as I should have been.

A lively (and sometimes silly) romp through the lives of six generally privilged people getting a whole can of comeuppance opened on them after a lottery win. Almost everyone involved is richly deserving of a smack upside the head with a frying pan and eventually I gave up on scowling in their general direction and just enjoyed the ride.

I thought this was a very well written story and the author had clearly researched the procedures involved in a big lottery win.
However the majority of the main characters in this book were quite unsympathetic and whilst there were a few twists as the book reached it's climax the final one was just one too many for me and spoiled my enjoyment of the whole story.
Four stars had it not been for that.

Really enjoyed this account of the dynamics a lottery win can cause. The effects on friendships and family relationships was profound. I also learnt about the events following a large win. The end was unexpected and a twist in the tale. Well written with probable characters.

This tells the story of a couple who win the lottery, just after 2 of the couples with whom they were part of a syndicate decide they no longer want to play.It shows the down side of winning a large amount of money and the adverse effect it has on the family of the winners.I would have enjoyed it more if the characters had been remotely likeable but I found them all extremely irritating. The husband,Jake, was awful and let the win go to his head. The wife,Lexi, was completely spineless and let him walk all over her.Their teenage daughter, Emily, was just like her father and completely self-absorbed.Their son was the only member of the family who was likeable and not affected by the win.
There was a parallel story of a Moldovan man ,Toma, who Lexi encountered through her work in the Citizens'Advice Bureau, and helps, but he was the only sympathetic character. The other two couples who felt entitled to share the win were also horrendous-they were all meant to have been friends for years but I didn't believe they could have been so close when they fell out so easily.
It held my attention but I think Adele Parks has written better and more believable plots than this one.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an ARC in return for an honest review which reflects my own opinions.

What would you do if you won millions on the lottery?
This story really hammered home the fact that money can't buy happiness.
I was hooked from the first few pages and I enjoyed the journey as all the twists and turns were slowly revealed along the way.

Lexi & Jake along with two other couples have done the lottery for years using the same numbers. The other two pay Lexi & she buys the tickets. The couples have got together every Saturday for years but things have been cooling for a while & the other two couples (who are better off & consider themselves better in all ways!) decide the lottery is 'common' & don't want to carry on. Imagine the reaction when the numbers come up & the ticket is worth £17,000,000!

If ever there was a demonstration of money being the root of all evil it was here. Jake goes off on an elaborate spending spree, encouraging his daughter to do the same. Their son Logan, is fairly unfazed & Lexi is devastated to have to leave her job at the Citizen's Advise Bureau because of the begging letters. The other two couples insist they never left the syndicate & things get nastier.

Lexi was the only character I felt any connection with- although I liked Logan & was really taken with Toma. The rest- particularly Jake were - awful!

A tale of deception & greed that kept me reading. Thansk to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.

3 couples, 6 friends, 3 teenagers 15 years of friendship and lives intertwined. One lottery syndicate that disbands the week before winning big. Money, rivalry, love and bitterness at its finest bringing out all human emotions. A compelling tale that leaves you guessing right till the end. As usual Adele does not disappoint

Imagine winning almost £18 million pounds on the lottery. Then imagine that you had been in a syndicate using the same numbers for fifteen years, only to pull out of said syndicate the week before those numbers came up. So begins the tale of three couples, friends who have spent almost every Saturday night together, who have raised their children together and been there through good and bad times.

Lexi and Jake cannot believe their luck - £18 million pounds in their bank account. They should be wildly happy shouldn't they? Along with their two children, Emily and Logan, they are rich beyond their wildest dreams. But they are about to discover that the money is a poisoned chalice. Emily's friends no longer want to know her, Lexi has to leave a job she adores at the Citizens Advice Bureau, and Jake has become smug and is spending money on flashy cars and houses that Lexi just does not feel at all comfortable with.

But all of that pales into insignificance when she discovers a betrayal that will leave her marriage ruptured irreparably. Who do you turn to when you no longer have your husband or your friends? When Jake throws a lavish party, the story builds to an explosive climax with twists coming thick and fast. And just when you think there are no more surprises, there is one final plot twist in store,

A fun and fast-paced cautionary tale about the cost of greed and the pain of betrayal, Perfect escapist fiction.

When it takes you 24 hours to read a book it’s always a good thing. Adele parks always writes amazing books but I loved this one! About a group of friends and a lottery win and about greed! Loved the characters and loved the story!!

Just My Luck is a page turning read that shows the ups and downs of all your dreams coming true.
Lexi and Jake have won 17 million on the lottery, after years of just winning the odd ten pounds they’ve done it. Every weekend for years they’ve done it along with their friends, the Pearson’s and the Heathcotes but this last weekend their friends dropped out so lexi and Jake and their two children have it all to themselves but do they?? The other couples go to extreme lengths to get their share and mixed with secrets and revelations this makes for a great pacey read.
The storyline is great if a little far fetched at the end but who knows what money does to people? The other couples are highly unlikeable and Lexi is quite weak for the vast majority of this book and Jake was just irritating but this didn’t spoil my enjoyment of this book.
I would like to thank Netgalley and HQ for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.

Would winning the lottery make you happy? Would it solve all your problems? Would it create more?

For 15 years a group of friends have played the lottery together, but after one night the Heathcotes and the Pearsons decide that they no longer want to be a part of this as it is too ‘common’. Then as luck would have it, the following week, Lexi and Jake Greenwood win the lottery!

The story follows their life and the life of their two children Emily and Logan as they navigate through their new lives as multi-millionaires. All of the characters are brilliantly devised and each story is told wonderfully. With cracks showing in the groups friendship and marriages as each persons dark side is slowly revealed.

Just My Luck is a fun whirlwind of a story whilst still having its moment of intrigue and darkness. The whole way through I was able to relate myself to the characters and think about what I would do in their shoes.

I loved how I was able to make predictions, only to be misdirected and then directed back again from beginning to end. This truly was a book I couldn’t put down!
