A really sweet book that deals with the parallel challenges of Lottie and her grandad. I really enjoyed their interactions and his gang of friends. Loved every minute of this book!

The Gin O’Clock Club by Rosie Blake a five-star read that you will adore. I didn’t know what to expect from this one, but I loved it, I think it was the soft spot I have for the Gin O’Clock club that crazy bunch of reprobates. Especially Teddy, he is such a refreshing surprise as a character. This is a novel everyone needs to read especially at the moment as we all need some feel good in our lives. This will just make you smile, its not crazy funny or crazy dramatic but it is a great story and one that will make you smile.

The title of this book The Gin O'Clock Club drew me straight in. It instantly remind me of my girls and I on our holidays every summer. The book didn't disappoint either. Lottie is like so many people I know who unwittingly have allowed life to become so jam packed that they leave little life for their friends, their families and themselves. She initially was less likeable though which isn't a plus point. Had she been more endearing I would have given this book 4 stars instead of three. It was an easy read though and enjoyable. I would certainly recommend as something not too taxing that would while away s few hours by the pool, while dreaming of your next Gin O'Clock.

Loved loved loved this book. Finally given time to read I finished this book in 2 days. I literally could not put it down

The main characters were wonderful, so real and warm. I was heartwarmed by the friendship of the men and found myself totally understanding things Lottie did, the way she reacted. I’ve been there and could be totally in the moment with her. Even the D of E experience - as a teacher myself I was laughing at the idea of her stood in front of 709 teenagers trying to wing it.

The romance, the fun of the dates (definitely something to be tried I think!) , even the quotes at the start of every chapter. I loved it all.

This was a book I really didn’t want to end. I’d love there to be a sequel. More about Arjun, And grandad and Margaret, how would Lottie’s wedding look ? I’d love to know more.....

The best book I’ve read in a long time

I would like to thank Netgalley and Sphere for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

Having lost my Granda last year, there was so much of this story that I could relate to. The first 20% I found quite hard to read and I felt it dragged on quite a bit to the funeral. It was a nice story/idea though, so I powered on, I just didn’t love it and felt myself skimming a lot. I absolutely hated the protagonist. I think she was meant to be portrayed as cutesy / caught up in herself or her grief, I’m not sure, I just found her very single minded and annoying. She didn’t become any more likeable throughout. I also found the writing, or perhaps the characterisation immature. I tried to like this story, it just wasnt for me this time, sorry.

I really enjoyed The Hygge Holiday by the same author and I loved this. Ambitious barrister Lottie does not have time for the people in her life and struggles to connect with her live-in boyfriend. When her grandmother dies, her grandad begins to show her how to live life to the full with the help of his best friends (some very sprightly OAPs) and lots of gin. A great fun escapist read.

Lottie is busy, too busy with her job as a young barrister. She doesn’t have time for the people who love her, Luke her boyfriend, Amy her best friend and her grandad Teddy who is mourning the loss of his wife. Teddy and his golfing pals who meet up regularly as ‘The Gin O’Clock Club’ where they play cards and drink new gins decide she needs to know the importance of these special people. Teddy and his friends try to show Lottie and Luke how to date the old fashioned way and what happens makes this book a warm, humorous read. It’s a story of love, family and friends and how important they are, oh and gin, lots of gin!

I really struggled to like Lottie in the beginning and felt for boyfriend Luke and her friends. Basically, Lottie is to busy at work to care for anyone including herself and this is why her grandfather decides to set into motion ways to make her see the importance of those special people in her life with the help of his buddies. If you enjoy stories of love, family, friendships and gin you’re in for a treat.

A light entertaining read full of entertaining characters, having said that I didn't warn to the main character, Lottie, at all but tolerated her as the rest of the book covered up the irritations. The book depicts Modern Life and how people get caught up in the spiral of too much work and personal achievement to the detriment of everyone else, hence the Lottie character. She was set off by her too good to be true boyfriend Luke who I'm amazed stuck with her as did her best friend Amy. The older characters are just wonderful, living life to the full despite set backs. Liked the plot and there was enough to keep me entertain despite wanting to scream at Lottie for her self obsessed attitude where everyone else is at fault except her,

This is the first book I've read by Rosie Blake. It was a lovely book to read. It transported you into Lotties turbulent life, letting you feel all the emotions she was going through. You felt the love and warmth of her friends and family to the hate and guilt she was trudging through. Makes you reflect on your own life, family and friends.
I only gave it four stars as near the beginning I felt like the descriptions and scene setting was a bit repetitive but once it got going this improved.
I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading other titles from this author.
Thank you Little, Brown Book Group UK and netgalley for allowing me to read and review this before its release.

Wow wonderful book. You know a book is brilliant when it makes you laugh out loud or cry. Well I sobbed as much as when I first read Ps I Love You. Two stories entwined. Multi generation family about love and loss. You feel the highs and lows of the story and keep your fingers crossed for a positive ending. Loved this book. I will be looking out for other books by this author.

I fully relate to Lottie as someone who never has two seconds to just stop and breathe and I get this story was lovely.
I wanted to join her grandad and his friends and play golf. Honestly so so lovely

Three and a half stars.

Meet Lottie, a young barrister with ambitions to take silk (get the title Queen's Counsel, or QC) before she's thirty. Lottie is so busy that she doesn't have time for her friends or her boyfriend Luke. When Lottie's beloved grandmother dies she tries to help her grandfather Teddy but she's too busy for that too.

Teddy can see Lottie is unhappy but she won't listen to reason and she is lashing out at those she loves, especially Luke. So he hatches a plan to help Lottie to see what is really important in life, following a discussion of old-fashioned versus modern dating he proposes teaching Luke and Lottie about dating the old-fashioned way and in return he will try to meet people the modern way, through Tinder etc. Every week Teddy and his golf pals meet up to play cards and drink gin, his wife used to call it the Gin O'clock Club and the name stuck.

I requested this book because I had read Rosie Blake's The Hygge Holiday and really enjoyed the gentle romance. Well this is totally different, which isn't a bad thing - no-one likes to read the same book over and over - but I didn't feel the same love for Lottie as I did for Clara Kristensen. In fact, I thought Lottie was a nightmare and I really didn't understand why Luke and her friends either stayed with her or forgave her. Although, I have to confess that her comments about getting into a verbal fight with someone after a few drinks and not really understanding what you are fighting about but refusing to back down did strike a chord. Maybe Lottie struck a little too close to home and I didn't like what I saw?

Anyway, Teddy and his golfing buddies are a laugh riot as they try to show Lottie and Luke how to date the old-fashioned way, some of which works better than others. And I did have to laugh at Teddy's disastrous Tinder date.

I think Lottie's character overshadowed Luke, TBH he was such a paragon of virtue he didn't feel like a real character whereas everyone else was larger than life.

Overall, despite my negativity, this was a gentle, humorous tale about a young ambitious woman who has lost her way and needs her grandfather and his golf buddies to help her get straight again. There's vintage cars, ballroom dancing, picnics and art classes all accompanied by every flavour of gin you could imagine. perfect summer reading.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

I'm a big fan of Rosie Blake's books so was delighted to get an advanced copy of this. This book is feel-good to the max! If you love Hallmark type movies, you'll love this. Teddy, the grandfather is just a wonderful character and I loved the depiction of his relationship with Lottie. This is a great read to just get lost in on a cosy Sunday! Would definitely recommend!
