I am a single parent of a 23 year old, I can give advise but the advise is not always welcome or taken. One thing I can always use is prayer. I know I can only be responsible for myself and hope I did a good enough job raising her that if she loses her way she can find her way back. These prayers help give me comfort and confidence this will be the case. With over 60 prayers you should be able to find one for any situation.

All thoughts and opinions are my own, and in no way have I been influenced by anyone.

Reading this book is almost like sitting in a small group and hearing encouraging and inspiring counsel directly from the author.s. The first chapters set the groundwork for parenting adult children; and the authors acknowledge both the pain and the triumphs that come from raising children. There’s a section directed especially to parents who children have made poor choices, but there’s also encouragement for those parents whose children are grounded spiritually and living a fulfilled life.

I think the prayer section of the book is heart-touching, and as the author states, can be a springboard on to how to prayer for adult children. I especially loved the section about praying specific areas for your child to grow to become more like Christ. This is a great book to have in your shelf to turn to during those times you might be especially praying for your adult or teen child.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

As I have now entered the world of parents of adult children, I have been searching for resources to help me with the transition. I’m new to it, and frankly, I don’t always do that type of parenting very well. Our sons are 20 and 19 (in 10 days) and I’ve been trying to let go and let them learn on their own. But, it isn’t easy.

One thing I can always do for them is to pray for them. But, my prayers may sound a bit different than they did while they were living in our house. It’s natural for parents to want to fix our children’s problems and continue to do things for them. But, responsible parents of adult children should be more hands-off, letting them figure things out, and waiting for them to come to us for help when needed. I’ll say that my husband is much better at this than I am.

This book is not for the average parent seeking guidance on praying for their adult children, but instead, more for those parents whose children may have taken a wrong path…even if, as parents, we feel like we did everything right. As the book says, “Godly parents do not guarantee godly offspring, and ungodly parents do not guarantee ungodly offspring.” I can’t say it is only for those parents because I did get some benefit and comfort from reading this book, but the majority of the prayers and guidance provided are if you are struggling with the choices your adult child is making and even more importantly, your reaction to it.

Each section offers a situation you may be struggling with, such as, “I’m Responsible for My Adult Child’s Choices and Lifestyle”. Then several prayers are given along with a Bible verse to reference. After the prayer, there is space for you to journal your notes, your specific prayer needs, and any answered prayers. You can choose to read a different prayer every day or read the same one, whatever your situation warrants. I specifically liked this part of one of the prayers:

Each person is held accountable for their own actions and decisions. Help me to stop feeling and believing that I am responsible for my adult children’s decisions and actions. Help me to stop fearing their next move or their next wrong choice. Set me free from dread. Break the chain of guilt.

Even though there are sixty-five guided prayers in this book, all the prayers may not apply to your situation, there were several that I took great comfort in and am glad I took the time to sit with this book and pray purposely over our children with the prayers given in the book. Are my children on the “wrong path”? No. Have they made some poor choices? Of course. This book offered me a way to let go of my anxieties about their choices and gave me a calm feeling while also helping me feel like I was intervening on their behalf without REALLY intervening.

If you are familiar with the authors at all you will without a doubt know that Prayers of Blessing over My Adult Children is a Christian book. Bruce Wilkinson and Heather Hair give wise counsel on accepting the decisions that adult children make as well as praying for them. While there is an emphasis on how to deal with the guilt and sorrow when the decisions made are poor choices and even against God’s Word, it is also for those whose children are continuing in the faith. The many verses of scriptures at the end of the book were the most beneficial of all.

I will admit that for some reason I was expecting more of a devotional format which is not the case at all. The book is laid out in chapters and dealt with the many aspects of praying for our grown children. Different from what I expected but not necessarily bad. It is a meaningful look at talking to the Lord without meddling, lecturing or preaching at our grown children. There is plenty of food for thought.

The publisher through Net Galley provided an ARC. I have voluntarily decided to read and review, giving my personal opinions and thoughts.

I have great faith in the power of prayer, especially so when it starts from a place where our deepest need meets our greatest faith. Nowhere is the power of faith displayed more strongly than when God-fearing parents trust their children to God’s infinite goodness.

I’ve seen the power of prayer at work in my own life and I know how I could have been on a far less happy path were it not for the faith and unceasing prayers of my parents. It was with this understanding that I too started praying for La Niña and El Niño when they were born. I still pray for them every day.

Of course, my children are still young. La Niña is a pre-teen and El Niño younger, so I don’t need this book right now but I have two beloved teenage nephews, and I know a few people with challenging family members, who I always pray for. So I hoped this book would provide me insight to pray more pointedly for their situations.

The books starts by reminding parents that adult children are not their responsibility. That when a child becomes an adult or is married, parents must cede their responsibility and assume the role of mentors. On an aside, try telling Indian parents that.

It points out the traps that parents fall into, while assuming responsibility for adult children, and gently guides parents to ask God, their children and themselves for forgiveness for any failures in parenting.

The book gives instances from the Old Testament and from their own lives. It guides parents to pray through the traps, to pray in the Truth, pray through the struggles, pray for the victories, and praying for the Character of Christ. There are 65 guided prayers and affirmative truth for parents to pray and reflect on. Each prayer begins with a verse from the New Testament and then goes on to a specific prayer and finally invites parents to express gratitude for something.

There are some errors, mostly avoidable. On one page, they describe Generation X as the one born between 1965 and 1976 and Millennials as those born between 1977 and 1995. Some pages later, they describe the Boomer Generation as the one born between 1944 and 1964, Generation X as the one born between 1965 and 1979 and then Millennials as those born between 1980 and 1994.

Great encouragement and directed prayer for parents that are hurting over the choices their adult children are making. As a parent with children that are just entering the adult phase and so far are making good choices, I also appreciated the suggestions of what to pray for them. I received a complimentary galley copy of "Prayers of Blessing over My Adult Children" from Harvest House for my honest review.

Good solid book. I don't think people realize, until you're there at least, that parenting doesn't stop. Ever really. It's difficult to accept changing roles and praying blessings over your children is as important when they are adults as when they are young. Maybe even more so.

Very good book. As Bruce Wilkinsin stated, we are parents from the time we give birth to our children until our death. However, it not practical to parent adult children as we did when they were younger, so we pray for them. This book contains a myriad of prayers covering almost every conceivable situation for our adult children. It is a prayer reference book I will put to use daily, whether there is a dire need for or just for keeping my children in my prayers. I highly recommend this book.

A beautiful book with helpful steps to follow and enrich our prayer life. For the parent of any adult offspring, this lovely, spiritual, thoughtful and prayerful book helps us to let go of our worries and burdens and helps us to trust in God and leave our cares in His loving hands. It offers solace and comfort and hope at a time when our young people offer so many challenges and onslaughts from so many directions. I will be returning to this book regularly and intend gifting it to each of my adult children

This is a collection of really helpful prayers for one's adult children, based totally on Scripture, with verses to back up the prayers. There is also encouragement for parents who may feel they have fallen short in their children's upbringing. The biblical truths in this book will inspire faith.
I highly recommend this read for all parents of adult children, not only for those who have problems.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Harvest House Publishers. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

I appreciate what the author is trying to accomplish in this book. I think that its audience will be those who are very actively involved in their religion. It is clearly a Christian book with strong values that should appeal to its intended audience. However those who do not fit this profile may not enjoy this title.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this book in exchange for an honest review.
With apologies, I am not posting this review more widely as I do not feel that it will appeal to those who read my blog.
