I absolutely love discovering new authors and Jacqueline Rohen. I read the synopsis for 'How To Marry Your Husband' and it certainly sounded like an interesting read. I grabbed a cup of tea, grabbed my Kindle and settled down to read. 'How To Marry Your Husband' was most definitely an interesting read and then some. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book but more about that in a bit.
I wasn't quite sure what to make of this book when I first started to read it. It took me a little while to get used to the characters and to get a feel for the story. Once I got into the story that was it, I was away and I found it extremely difficult to put the book down for any length of time. I became so caught up in the story that I lost all track of time. I didn't realise just how quickly I was reading the book until I looked up to check, only to discover that I had read over 30% of the story, which I was surprised about. Usually I have a short attention span and I find it hard to concentrate but not with this book I didn't. I soon raced through the book and all too quickly I had reached the end of the story. This was one of those fantastic books that allows you to escape your troubles for an afternoon. 'How To Marry Your Husband' was the distraction I so needed.
'How To Marry Your Husband' is extremely well written. I love the way in which the author has created a lovable character in Rachel, who just seems like she would be a canny laugh and a fabulous friend. There were numerous times when I either wanted to shake her by the shoulders or just give her a hug. I kept everything crossed that she would get the ending that she deserved. The author grabbed my attention with the synopsis and then lured me into the story by making Rachel so likeable and her relationship so interesting and so realistic. Jacqueline has one of those writing styles that is easy to get used to and easy to get along with. Reading this book felt more like a chat amongst friends rather than reading a book. I hope that makes sense. I felt like I was part of the story too and that was all thanks to Jacqueline's very realistic and vivid storytelling.
In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'How To Marry Your Husband' and I would recommend it to other readers. I will definitely be reading more of Jacqueline's work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

I had to read the title twice. How To Marry Your Husband. Wait. Say that again. If he’s your husband, you’re married already… right? Have I missed a rule about marriage??

It turned out I knew all about weddings and family law, but that didn’t mean Rachel couldn’t marry David… Because even though they’ve been living together forever and had a wonderful escape wedding fifteen years ago, they are not legally husband and wife. Imagine discovering this out of nowhere. I would be mad. Scrap this, mad wouldn’t even cover it. And if it wasn’t enough, just before a weekend of celebration for their anniversary, Rachel sees her not-so-hubby kissing another woman. It is fair to say her world is crashing down. Boom.

I took an instant liking to Rachel. Her thoughts and feelings reached me from the pages and my heart beat to the sound of the music played by the range of emotions she went through during her unforgettable journey. She’s the woman next door, kind and happy without getting on your nerves. She has lovely friends. Rachel is what I’d call normal if this word was still in my vocabulary. She could be me, if I ever were to get married.

With all this craziness jumping at Rachel like little baby monsters partying on the shattered parts of her life, I was not expecting to get David’s point of view. I was already on Rachel’s side, calling David names and coming up with evil plans to make him pay. I suppose that was what the author was aiming for, and my goodness, she succeeded! However… David’s point of view made me take a step back. As you read, you go through all events through his eyes too and this switch in perspective changes everything. It is funny what context and details do to a story!

I was happy that for once, there was no clear line between love and hate, between marriage and divorce. Rachel loves David and wonders where it all went wrong. David … I prefer to let you get to know him, but let’s say he is a flawed and interesting character I couldn’t help rooting for. This book is about battles – between people, between you and your feelings, between reality and dream… A fierce battle with the sweetest reward if you’re strong enough to make it to the end.

Utterly entertaining and deeply human, How to Marry Your Husband is a moving and yes, hilarious novel about love and mistakes, about almost perfect, about changes of plans, bumps in the road, and what to make of acid lemons when life throws them in your face. Do you give up on the man you vowed to love till death knocks at your door? Do you try harder to make it work? Is there a way out without too much damage? Jaqueline Rohen explores relationships, the place they take and the bonds they come with. I truly enjoyed reading How to Marry Your Husband, it is the perfect romance with a touch that makes all the difference.

A delightful rom com that kept me on my toes the whole time. The storyline was exceptional and the characters engaging and believable.

Rachel and David's 15th anniversary is approaching quickly and they're looking towards a weekend full of celebrations. But when Rachel spots her husband, who is supposed to be picking up a cake for the above mentioned celebrations but instead is kissing another woman, much younger than Rachel, she is convinced this is the end of her marriage. Moreover, she then also discovers that they're not even legally married, as the proper forms have never been filled after they got married in some exotic surroundings. So, how can you divorce your husband who isn't really your husband? And - does she really want to divorce him? Or is there a second chance for them?

At the beginning the story was told only from Rachel's point of view, and I liked it, so the chapters told by David were a kind of surprise and I must admit that I, well, I started to think that maybe he really isn't the perfect choice for Rachel? He somehow sounded a bit spineless, lacking fibre compared to the quirky, full of life Rachel. Actually, all the female characters in this book were brilliant, strong women with distinctive voices, don't you think? They knew what they want from life and they went for it, and I truly adored this fact - finally strong, likeable and believable group of confident and opinionated, modern women. And I simply couldn't root for the relationship between Rachel and David, no matter how often they tried to assure me that they can't live without each other, that they're each other's The Ones - so why, oh why, didn't you communicate? Why didn't you speak with other? Why? It was so, so annoying!

Now, I'm going to be totally honest with you. The book sounded so promisingly brilliant and I started to read it with huge expectations, hoping for a humorous, witty revenge book, something like Jane Fallon maybe? The more I read, the more hope I had but, sadly, in the end the story didn't live up to my expectations. It focused much more on the inner thoughts, the characters were talking about the same thing over and over again without actually doing nothing - and I think this is my biggest problem with this story. Except for the few sentences with Rachel's ideas how to take revenge on David, and except for a few pages when David complained that things are so strange there was nothing more about it, so no getting even, sadly.

The book had it moments, of course it did but too often I had a feeling that the writing is a bit chopped, not as polished as it should be. Nevertheless, it is a light - hearted story that also touches upon some more serious issues, and altogether it is truly a lovely read, and a brilliant debut novel with tons of potential, and I will be more than happy to read the author's another release. There are secrets aplenty, lies and misunderstandings but also brilliant friendship and true love - love so strong that can blind you completely. The characters were full of flaws and dysfunctional but it only made them more realistic and relatable.

Jacqueline Rohen author of "How to Marry Your Husband" has written an entertaining and witty novel. The genres for this novel are Fiction, Women's Fiction, and Domestic Fiction. The timeline for this story is in the present and goes to the past when it pertains to the events or characters. The author describes her characters as quirky, dysfunctional, complex, and complicated. This is a witty story with secrets and betrayals that have a major effect on the characters. In this story, both Rachel and David have certain interpretations of the events and share them as alternating narrators.

On Rachel's anniversary, the last thing she expects to see is her husband David kissing a beautiful and young woman. She notices that they take off together and is convinced that her marriage is over. How is she going to go through the weekend of anniversary celebrations? After the weekend, on the advice of her friend and employee, she contacts a divorce lawyer, who mentions upon investigation, that the proper forms were never filled out years ago when they got married, so she and her husband aren't legally married. Now how can you divorce your husband if he isn't legally your husband? Rachel decides that she will make him fall in love with her again, and get married, so she can divorce him.

This leads to some entertaining shenanigans and planning, which leads to some dramatic and complicated adventures. I appreciate that the author also brings other characters' relationships into the story as well. This is a light and entertaining read which I recommend.

Imagine its approaching your anniversary weekend, you’ve been married for 15 years and you have a weekend of celebrations to look forward to, that is until you spot your husband kissing a woman half his age in the middle of the street. Thats’s exactly what happened to Rachel and to top things off she finds out she’s not legally married.

After reading the first few pages of this book I was totally hooked, oh boy did I feel for Rachel and I zoomed through this book desperate to find out how things would pan out.

Told from both Rachel and David’s point of view, How to Marry your Husband is a cracker of a story and I found myself laughing out loud a lot, sometimes cringing and emotional at other times but for a lot of the book I felt so frustrated, I just wanted to bang their heads together and tell them to talk, just communicate.

I loved Rachel, she’s a great character and I couldn’t help feeling totally invested in this story. You get a sense straight away of the type of person Rachel is and she’s so easy to like, you instantly want what’s best for her.

Like I said previously I zoomed through this book, it’s written wonderfully and is easy to get totally lost in and forget everything that’s going on round about you. It certainly helped me forget about what’s happening in the world for a few hours.

How to Marry your Husband is a story that really pulls you in, it absorbs you and doesn’t let go until the very last page. It’s a fantastic debut and one I will be highly recommending

Honestly I was really excited about this book because it sounds interesting, fun with a slightly dark and vengeful side of taking revenge. But when I actually started reading, I was slowly losing interest and what I find was a boring story instead. I really wanted to enjoy this book but I really couldn't.

I feel like the synopsis was a bit misleading since the story focuses more on their inner thoughts and monologues without actually having any action happening along the way. It only took a few pages instead of coursing throughout the entire story which is really anticlimactic.

This book was also about forgiveness and realising the deep love that one feels within. Relationships are hard work and you must really commit in order to come out with a successful one with both parties that are equally happy and satisfaction. Love is a rollercoaster ride, one moment you're at its peak and later you're at the bottom but all in all, it is always going to be an eventful ride of a lifetime.

I loved this book & couldn't put it down! I was given it as an ARC by Netgalley this morning in exchange for my honest review & was sucked straight into the tumultuous relationship between Rachel & David, they felt like two friends whom you'd known for a long time. Sad in places, laugh out loud in others & I found myself wanting to knock some sense into both of them in places. Definitely a 5 star read rating from me!

I really like the idea behind this book and I think the beginning is perfect.

I was hooked from the start and was really curious about finding out what Rachel is going to do. It was fab to see all her thoughts and how she managed the sitation of an anniversary party and other things. Keeping up the act after seeing your husband kiss another woman is not easy.

Then she wants out that their marriage wasn’t legal, it’s time to break his heart. She did a lot to make his life hard and that wasn’t easy to see, I even felt sorry for David.

The great thing about this book: David got to share his perspective as well. Sometimes in bewteen some chapters were dedicated to him and we got to read everything from his point of view. That was really interesting and actually explained what really happened with this woman.

I really enjoyed this book, the storyline is very exciting, funny and full of ups and downs. At times I felt it dragged a little bit and I wanted the story to move forward too quickly. The book is full of emotions and I think the authors captured them really well.
I didn’t really like the way it was all resolved, I kind of expected more there, but I still liked this story very much, also the ending.

A great story that will keep you hooked!
