This was an interesting domestic thriller but unfortunately it felt a bit average to me. Definitely not the best domestic thriller I've ever read

I did like the writing style. I thought it was really easy to read and engaging. I flew through it quite quickly when I sat down and read it.

However, there was nothing in the story that made me want to pick it up and read it.

The plot was kinda average. It felt more of a domestic drama for most of the book until the end where it read more like a thriller

I wasn't too keen on the ending. It felt a bit silly and far fetched. It wrapped up incredibly quickly and it seemed a bit too unbelievable

I didn't really care for any of the characters either. None were particularly likeable

Overall, this was an interesting domestic thriller but it just didn't blow me away. Its probably quite forgettable

TW: murder, violence and domestic abuse

The beauty of this book is that there is no padding; the writing is tight and concise. Although you feel you know the twist that is coming, the writer is one step ahead of you so the ending is a genuine surprise. It was a real change to read a novel which doesn't over-egg the ending and that leaves the reader feeling good afterwards. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good plot with a well- engineered twist. Will certainly recommend this one to friends.

Firs things first, the front cover of this book looks great, stands out really, and great colouring.
The story is set in two different times - young Lorna and older Lorna. It focuses on two perspectives - mainly Lorna’s and her daughter Liberty.

The story focuses overall on Lorna getting mixed up with a famous rock star called Michael, who is completely unlikeable from the start. I spent time during the book wanting to shout at him myself. Lorna gets brain washed by him, she’s in love with him and his fame, and generally thinks he is a God. In fact, he isn’t.
It begins with Lorna 16 years on after her time with Michael, and straightaway you can feel her overprotective ways for her daughter and their home. And the story goes back and forth so you can understand why Lorna is so protective.
I really liked Lorna, and she’s very relatable, but I also wanted to shake her in parts and want her to open her eyes as to what was going on around her. Her daughter, Liberty, was also a great character, very strong willed and bright.
I enjoyed the snippets in the book of the relationship between Lorna and her sister Dee, that is a true love relationship. I feel Lorna’s fiancé could have had a bigger role in the book as his character seemed very down to earth and likeable - the polar opposite of Michael.

Overall I really enjoyed this book, I read it in one sitting. The story was very gripping, and wasn’t completely unbelievable. It was a page turner, and the storyline was great, very modern.

I hadn't read books from Suzy K Quinn before but I was most intrigued when I read the blurb for this novel.

The story itself didn't disappoint.

It was thrilling from start to finish.

Elements of misleading the reader, twists and turns that deceived whilst keeping the storyline interesting and fast paced (although the title sort of gives away a certain part of it all).

My only criticism is that there were times when the writing didn't flow as well as I thought it should. Perhaps a bit more editing was needed to give greater detail, better sentence structure.

I think it was some of the conversations that fell a bit flat, didn't convey the emotions that I knew the characters would be feeling.

Over all a good novel, a good starter book to this type of genre

I read this book with an open mind and I was pleasantly surprised.
The cover of the book is designed to draw the reader in with a strong title. The cover of the book is the back of a young girls ponytail with an innocent looking pink bow. The title and the cover suggested to me this could be a thriller, with children involved. As a mother of three I was intrigued at what the story might tell me and how it was going to unfold.

The main character is called Lorna and it's clear from the beginning of the book she is hiding something. She is engaged to be married and has a 16 year old daughter named Liberty and a 4 year old step-daughter with additional needs. The family are living in a luxury home, which is fenced off from the outside world along with gated security access. The family go out and come back as they please however, it's very clear Lorna needs the family to be kept safe especially her daughter Liberty.

Suzy k Quinn is an exceptional intelligent writer when it comes to creating a suspenseful dramatic atmosphere within the story. I found myself to keep reading ahead, just to see what other secrets and twists were going to develop. I found that the author develops a relationship with the reader where they are hooked within the story and keeps the reader engaged.

I would say this book was at times chilling, and it was a great psychological thriller. As I read the story and watched it unfold in my imagination I would have recommended it for a suspenseful t.v series. There are so many twists and turns, ups and downs within the book once you are committed it's hard to put it down and stop reading.

A really enjoyable read, so much so that I read in one day. I literally had to find out what was going to happen next.

The whole drama started when Liberty who's mother suffocates the young 16 year old with no freedoms, still refuses to tell her whom her father is

Unbeknown to her mum, Lorna, she already has found out who her famous father is, and he's living so close that one night, Liberty decides to leave to visit him.

She's heard the stories from her mum, that he's dangerous, but she just thinks her mum is just paranoid.

Will it be the reunion she expected or will things start changed that proves her mother correct?

Thank you for my copy from Netgalley.

Not My Daughter is a fascinating read and I really could not put it down.

Lorna has a big secret to hide from all of those around her, especially from her 16 year old daughter Liberty who is the secret love child of much loved and respected rockstar Michael Reyji Ray. Her dark past involves a darkness and history that noone would ever believe but when Lorna discovers that Liberty has run away to meet her father she finds that the past must now be revisited.

This is a very dark story that is told from different viewpoints. It really is fascinating and tackles a wide range of issues including domestic violence and a very relevant pointer to the underage abuse of teenagers by celebrities which may be triggering to some.

Several moments made me gasp and there were twists throughout that I did not see coming.

I would absolutely recommend this book and can't wait to read more from the author.

Chilling and terrifying, impossible to put down!

Lorna is a single mother who escaped her abusive partner after giving birth to a girl, Liberty.

Liberty is sixteen years old, and has spent the last few years planning to run away to meet her father Michael, a charismatic musician everyone loves.

When Lorna wakes up to find Liberty’s room empty she fears the worst nightmare has come true. Has Liberty run away to meet her father? If she finds him, will she see him for who he is or will she too be blinded by his charisma?

Not My Daughter is a terrifying, twisty read that had me hooked from the first chapter.

The story is told from the point of view of different characters, and switches between the past and the present. A very clever way to keep the reader hooked and which leads to so many twists and turns you won’t be able to put this book down.

The novel contains sensitive themes some may find upsetting; however, they were handled with thought. This is mixed with quotes from fairy tales which are used in contrast to upsetting moments.

The big twist at the end was impossible to guess, and the novel had a happy ending which left me satisfied.

Not My Daughter is a story unlike what I’ve read before and I look forward to reading more from Suzy K Quinn.

Disclosure: I would like to thank HQ HarperCollins UK for an advanced copy of Not My Daughter by Suzy K Quinn. This is my honest review.

I'm so torn by this book. It has a great premise, and a great plot, which had me tearing through the book in a few days. But it just felt like we were being spoon fed all the info. It was like being told what happened, not shown. There was no depth of description to the character's feelings. And I get that Lorna and Diane were brainwashed, but their blindness to it all was infuriating. Still, a good read, especially if you want a book you can;t put down.

I really really enjoyed this book and read it in a day as I was so eager to find out how it ended!! I have read other Suzy K Quinn books but this was a totally different genre to the other I’ve read and I loved it. It was full of twists and turns a real page turner. I would definitely read other things she wrote x

Not My Daughter tells the story of Lorna and her 16-year-old daughter Liberty. Lorna is hiding her secret past from everyone around her especially her daughter. But when Liberty takes matters into her own hands, Lorna doesn’t have any choice but to confront what she’s been running from for years.

The first chapter hooked me and I was immediately interested. The story is told in past and present. I understood why the story needed to be told that way, however, the constant flicking back and forth jolted me out of the story and made it hard to connect.

The characters were unique and interesting. I could feel Micheal’s manipulation oozing through the pages, Lorna’s desperation to keep her daughter safe and Liberty’s search for the truth.

I loved Liberty. She was a brilliant, unique character who was cleverer than I gave her credit for. I was rooting for her right to the very end.

I couldn’t work out what was going on and it kept me guessing until the end. I got frustrated that information kept being hidden and pushed back, but I guess we don’t want to know everything at the beginning or they’d be no story.

Not My Daughter is filled with plot twist after plot twist. Although not always entirely obvious, I saw clues peppered throughout pointing to what really happened. The ending was incredible - and definitely not what I was expecting, but it all fit so perfectly.

My thanks to HQ for an eARC via NetGalley of ‘Not My Daughter’ by Suzy K Quinn in exchange for an honest review. It’s available now in ebook and will be released in paperback/audiobook editions on 9 July.

After sixteen years of keeping her daughter, Liberty, safe from the dark secret in her past, Lorna is alarmed one morning to find Liberty’s room empty plus her rucksack and doggie, Skywalker, gone. She quickly discovers that Liberty has gone to find her father, whose identity she’s only just discovered.

He is Michael Reyji Ray, a famous and powerful musician considered a saint for his environmental work. Yet Lorna is convinced that he is a monster and is desperate to prevent Liberty from meeting him. No more plot details as thrillers like this I always feel are best read ‘cold’.

As seems to be the current norm in psychological thrillers, the story is told from various perspectives and moves between the present and the past to explore Lorna’s initial relationship with Michael.

Wow! I read a fair few domestic/psychological thrillers and this really impressed me. I was very drawn in by its narrative. It was certainly dark in places and brilliantly twisty. ‘Not My Daughter’ kept me on the edge of my seat and proved almost impossible to put down.

4.5 stars rounded up to 5.

Another great read by Suzy Quinn. This psychological thriller has plenty of twists and turns and an ending that I did not see coming. I was hooked from start to finish. Definitely one to read. Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

Lorna's daughter, Liberty wants to meet her father but Lorna knows he's a dangerous man. She was manipulated by an older, famous man when she was just 16 years old, but Lorna has tried to raise her daughter right and keep her safe. Liberty is determined though and finds out who he is and where he lives.

When I first started to read this, I wasn't sure if it was my kind of book but I was very surprised to find how quickly I was drawn into the story. The reader gets the viewpoint of both past and present Lorna, along with chapters from Liberty's point of view. The author does a great job of making the reader unsure who is telling the truth, Michael or Lorna. The ending is probably the weakest part for me as it seemed a little far-fetched in some respects. Overall, it was well worth a read.

TW: domestic abuse, statutory rape, sexual assault, manipulation.

Thanks to NetGalley and publishers, HQ, for the opportunity to read an ARC.

Lorna refuses to tell her daughter who her father is. But Liberty finds out whom he is and goes to see him. Lorna is frantic with worry and fear for her daughter.

Thisnstory flips between the past and present day. It covers abuse and domestic violence. It's also a bit predictable in places. There's a few twists and the characters are true to life. The pace is fast and it's full of suspense. The ending is satisfactory. This is my first book by the author but it won't be my last.

I would like to thank NetGalley, HQ and the author Suzy K Quinn for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

What a read! I honestly couldn't put this book down! I was hooked right from the very first chapter!
The plot had a 50/50 chance of going either way but I still found myself shocked by the twists and turns. Did not expect the backstory to be what it was!! Chilling, terrifying and guaranteed to have your heart pounding the whole way through, I highly recommend this one!

I enjoyed this book found it easy to read, kept me engaged from start to finish.

I liked the way it was written in past and present tense so that you get the full picture as the story
unfolds.

Touching on some sensitive subjects that were handled with thought and care, complex characters an emotive read.

A story that takes you on a journey down a twisty uneven path!
