A missing girl draws DCI Craig Gillard into a high profile political case. It's a complex crime that takes all the investigative skill of Gillard's team. The undercurrent of menace builds as the story progresses and a game of cat and mouse ensues with all its inherent dangers.

Authentic, engaging with believable twists and an enigmatic protagonist.

I received a copy of this book from Canelo via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

As usual in my reviews, I will not rehash the plot (plenty of reviews like that out there already!)

This was the first book in the "DCI Craig Gillard" series that I've read (though I did not post a review at the time - now remedied!)

Thoroughly enjoyed this novel. I like the author's style of writing - plenty of detail, a great lead character and a supporting cast of believable characters, and the book is obviously well researched.

The plot is well constructed, with a few juicy red herrings thrown in. I read a lot of books in this genre, but did not guess the full background, which is a bonus for me!

I will happily read more by this author, and will also be trying to complete the full catalogue as although I've since read two more in the series, I've missed a couple of titles.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC. All opinions my own.

I've read all of the books written in this series so far, and I enjoyed this was as much as the others. It isn't essential to read them in order, however I prefer to do so for the character development of the main detective. Such an interesting, fast pace, original story with a fantastic ending. Can't wait for the next one by Nick Louth.

There's so much going on in this complex and fast-moving thriller. The original investigation is not what it seems at first - a missing musician, young and female, possibly abducted from a bus stop on her way to an important event. It soon becomes clear that there is a lot more going on, and that the lead investigator could be a target in his own right.

The characters are believable and the police team seems realistic, working as an efficient team, with almost unlimited resources due to the victim's connection to a high-profile foreign politician. The author clearly knows a lot about police procedures, not to mention trains and waste management!

The writing is good and I did like the way that every loose end was tied up by the end of the story. I've read other books in this series and would happily continue reading them.

Another brilliant writer and this is superb, so much going on and written brilliantly. This will keep you guessing, in fact, I don’t think anyone will guess all that is going on. Definitely a best seller and a superb 5 stars from me.

This book has many of the elements a reader looks for in a great mystery. A young woman's disappearance pulls in the best investigators when it's learned she is a politician's daughter which gives her disappearance a new perspective. As the story builds, it becomes clear that this young woman's disappearance is part of a much larger criminal plan that includes the death of the principal investigator. The plot went from one we've seen often to a very unique, intriguing killer's actions to provoke the police into making him famous at their expense. There are a few WOW moments in here and many that will cause you to turn back pages because you know you missed a clue somewhere. A great read for us dedicated crime/thriller addicts.

Another story for Craig Gillard.
It was a reasonable story, some things were a bit different this time and I felt a bit disappointed.

I have really enjoyed all the ones though.

I've read Louth before and despite some raw writing, and perhaps derivative characterizations, the hunt for missing daughter of an important foreign official takes intriguing twists and turns. (I'm not sure female detective's being one of the guys is any more these days much of a compliment!) Enjoyable enough ...

My thanks to Netgalley for my copy of The Body Under the Bridge, the first book by Nick Louth that I have read. It was everything I look for in a psychologically thrilling police drama; it was a real page turner.

The plot is compelling and complex but you never lose track of what is going on. The main characters, ie the police force are all interesting and believable.

So many twists and turns but towards the end the reader is fully aware of the outcome but that is not a disappointing feature, it merely shows how embroiled you have become.

A fantastic read and I will be on the look out for further works by Nick Louth.

Oh dear, this is book five and my first in the Gillard series so I have some fun catching up to do! All must be stand alone novels, as other then the number in the title, I found the story and characters easy to read and appreciate in this British crime story. With plenty of red herrings/ throwaway clues I was riveted right to the end. Would like to see the female cops a little more challenging and more developed - perhaps in one of the previous ones I now need to track down.

The latest Craig Gillard procedural starts as a missing person case before developing into a murder investigation in which the perpetrators are skilled at misdirecting the police. Initially found the story good yet easy enough to put down in favor of some other diversion. It took me a few tries to get into it. As the plot got more complicated and started involving higher personal stakes for Gillard, it became easier to ignore other temptations like Netflix. By the end, as the procedural became more thriller-like, I was delaying more fundamental tasks like making breakfast and starting work. (Good thing the commute during this shutdown takes just a few seconds.). This was the second Gillard novel I've read, and I look forward to reading more.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a digital advance review copy.

If you like the reassurance of a new read that is written within a well-tested framework but still manages to entertain and grip then Nick Louth’s ‘The Body under the Bridge’, the 5th DCI Gillard crime novel, is for you.
For me this series is like a venture through the Agatha Christie novels – if asked I could tell you the probable framework but the differing details of each of these books provide the thrill of a well-written crime that I can’t wait to try and solve. However, I must add for new readers that Louth includes rather more gory details of the deaths than does Christie.
As with the others in the series I really enjoyed this but not quite as much, so I am hovering between awarding it 4 and 5 stars.
Thank you to Canelo Books and NetGalley for this copy in exchange for an honest review.

Suspected Routine Case Turns Deadly....
DCI Craig Gillard book five where a suspected routine missing persons investigation becomes more involved than the detective could ever have imagined. Well written thriller, an involved main plot with plenty of side threads, twists and turns along the way.
