This is a story off Adam and Anna, and what an amazing, emotional story it is! This book is full of love, tears, heartbreak and happiness and laughter ! I really enjoyed it and couldn’t put it down till I had finished it! A must read but Make sure you have your tissues for this one! Definitely worth 5 stars |
Oh my, what a heartbreaker. It was a book of several parts, each one as enchanting and heart-breaking in equal measure. The way Amelia foreshadows events with just a sentence meant that this is not your typical love story and is a compelling page turner. You become immersed in the life of Adam and Anna and I often found myself feeling the same gut-wrenching emotion that Anna described (hence a lot of tears were shed). It is a love story that breaks a part of you, forcing you to look at your own life and had me wanting to hold my loved ones even closer as a result. The dilemma of love and science is a clever twist to this story and it made the story even more powerful. I sobbed through this book, my heart breaking over and over for different reasons.. The realistic portrayal of the first throes of love, the pain of infertility and the consequences on their marriage, mixed well with some elements of the story that were less realistic and more farfetched. However I like to escape the mundane so this did not bother me, and I have since put the book down with the hope that there is something bigger than us out there, and a renewed sense of how we should appreciate those we love while we have them. If you enjoy feeling emotionally traumatised by a book – this is the one for you. |

Amazing, Emotional, Heartbreaking but Life Affirming. These words are just not enough to adequately describe this mind blowingly fantastic book. You will not understand how brilliant this story is until you read the book for yourself. This is a story that has gripped my heart, mind and soul and it is a book that will stay with me forever. It encapsulates so many hopes and dreams but also confronts our questions and fears. It is going to take a few days to recover from reading this. I have rated it a very strong 5⭐️ (I wish it could be 10⭐️) and my recommendation is that if you only buy one book this year, please make it this one. |
When Anna heads off on her honeymoon with her best friend Nell beside her instead of the groom, she is hoping to escape reality for a while. A chance to put aside all the tears, thoughts and what-ifs. On her first evening, she meets Adam at her hotel, who believes that Nell is her wife after overhearing a conversation at the reception desk. The story is told from Anna and Adam's point of view across those first 10 days on holiday. Subsequently, as they decide to make a long-distance relationship work. Marriage follows, however, the much-longed-for baby doesn't which causes a strain on their marriage. A return trip to the place they first met for their five wedding anniversary brings lots of surprises as well as heartache. If you were given the chance to spend more time with the one you love would you risk your own life in the process? One that will have you reaching for the tissues. |

As the book starts it is an interesting look at a relationship, especially as the newness has passed. As the story unfolds it becomes more and more unbelievable and I became exasperated with it. |
A wonderful love story that keeps the pages turning. I was captivated by the Adam and Anna and as the story unfolded I grew to love them more. |
This book is described as “not your typical love story” and that is definitely one way to describe it but this is what made me so intrigued to read it. Just wow!!! I don’t even know where to begin with my review. It’s Anna and Adam’s story, we get taken through of how they meet but what happens after that is such a rollercoaster of events I just wasn’t expecting at all! I am a huge bag of emotions after finishing ‘The Life We Almost Had’ I was feeling buzzed by reading how these two characters meet and how their love begins but then after that it’s frustration, sadness and I’m just left with a huge book hangover after turning the last page! I don’t want to go into the events as this would just give away huge plot spoilers. I completely and utterly urge you to go read this beautiful heartbreaking story ❤️ I completely loved how I just didn’t know where this story was going and how Anna and Adam develop as people. I was so close to tears at one point. Amelia had me gripped with her narrative and bereft that it’s now over! ‘The Life We Almost Had’ is a story about love, friendship and taking chances. I give this charming story 5*/5* 😊 Thank you to HQ for an advanced copy of this book via Netgalley. |
This book makes you want to find Anna and give her a big hug. How much sadness can one person be expected to endure. The book starts with her going on honeymoon with her best friend as she has been jilted just before her wedding. She does find happiness again but again life is not plain sailing when she can't fall pregnant with the child she so desperately wants. She still continues to suffer more heartache and loss but eventually finds some peace and happiness in her life. |

Not a typical love story and it will make you laugh and cry. A very powerful and unique read and beautifully written with some surprising twists. |
Not my usual genre of read but a thoroughly good, poignant well written book which I can thoroughly recommend. Thank you to Netgalley and HQ Digital for giving me the opportunity to read this book. |
This book was such a fantastic read! It literally kept my turning page after page! The ending is so sad but it really will make you appreciate everything in your life! Couldnt recommend enough. |
One word for this book... perfection. Anna and Adam's love story is definitely not your typical tale. After a chance meeting whilst away in Alcercia they have been together ever since. Their marriage certainly hasn't been easy as they struggle to start a family, but then a tragic accident forced Anna to take a long hard look at her life and really put everything into perspective for her. This book is poignant, well written and moving in so many ways. I absolutely adored it and finished it in one day. Thank you for my ARC of this wonderful book. |
What a fabulous read It kept me wanting more and more throughout the whole thing. It was a sad ending but it made me appreciate everything in life. ❤️ |
Wow! I really did not imagine this book would be anything like it is. I expected a very cheesy love story with maybe a drop of tragedy - wrong! T his story has a very original concept thrown in that although at times may be a little unbelievable, on the whole is a very thought provoking idea. Thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. |

The Life We Almost Had tells the unusual love story of Anna Addlington and Adam Curtis who meet on holiday on the Spanish island of Alircia. Anna is 24 and has just been dumped two weeks before her wedding and is there on what would have been her honeymoon with her best friend and bridesmaid, Nell. Adam has recently come out of a disastrous relationship and is on holiday with his best mate, Josh, who is keen to have as many holiday romances as possible! At first, the couple resist their feelings due to the circumstances but, before long, they're spending all their time together in Alircia. When they get home, they have a long-distance relationship for 10 months before moving in together and getting married six months later. Seven years later, things are rather different – the couple are married and have been trying to conceive for five years. Life has become rather mundane and boring and they don't talk properly and snipe at each other over the smallest of things. Adam decides to treat Anna to a holiday in Alircia in a last-ditch attempt to revive their relationship and it's here where things take an unusual turn after something shocking happens. I really enjoyed this book but I don't want to give too much away. It was an emotional read at times and I felt sympathy for Anna and Adam who'd just lost their way in their relationship and stopped talking to each other as a result of being unable to conceive. It was a bit different from the norm and had some good twists, which I wasn't expecting. A tragic but heart-warming and touching read. Not a typical love story at all! |
I went out of my normal genre range and read this book. The storyline was great but it was a bit slow in places. With that being said I really loved the love story. True love was found for Anna after a disappointing prior relationship. This book did tear at my heart strings in places, especially the infertility and what it did to Adam’s and Anna’s relationship but how far would one go when they are faced with the possibility of not seeing their loved one again. If you believe in science, miracles, and eternal love this is definitely a great book. The ending made it so much better. |
I’m a bit picky about romance reads as it’s not my favourite genre although I have come across some real gems and this is one of them. I had a hunch I would like it because I love psychological suspense books by Louise Jensen, Amelia’s alter ego but on the other hand was a bit nervous in case I was disappointed. Luckily I wasn’t. It’s written in her distinctive style - short and snappy chapters with brilliant hooks that compel you to turn the page, and the story has more depth than a simple love story. It’s an emotional read with vividly drawn characters. Although I found the science fiction element a bit bizarre I soon realised the title made perfect sense. I think this will appeal to fans of Jojo Moyes or anyone who enjoys a good love story |

I enjoyed this book which was not a happy typical happy ending love story. There were various twists of fate that at times moved me to tears, I did however find some bits slightly unbelievable would they have really happened. I am familiar with Louise Jensens work this was somewhat different but in a good way. |

It's a very different story. From the beginning there are hints about the relationship between Adam and Anna, and we know that all is not going to go smoothly. It's an emotional tale, but somehow I never felt fully involved. thank you NetGalley for a review copy. |
Not your straight forward predictable love story and for that I love this book! Would definitely recommend to all to read. A gripping page turner! |
