This is a wonderful book for children about myths; the illustrations are themselves magical and alluring. Embedded with geography and a range of cultures, it is certain to appeal to children’s curious minds. It’s a book to be read and revisited a few times, the young reader will be able to explore different aspects of the book during each encounter with ‘Mythopedia’. Additionally, it also offers great stories behind the myths, being ‘Thunderbird and the whale’ my favourite one. These myths are the foundation of many great stories and reference to many films that the children might watch, it supports a deeper reading to other books and mediums and opportunity to create intertextuality - it is a great addition to any library.

A great starter guide to less known myths. The art work was beautiful and the stories were fun. I suggest this if you are looking for a quick read, want to learn more about mythology, or have a kid that is interested in mythology.

Gorgeous illustrations! This was a fun read of learning about some new myths from around the world with beautiful illustrations accompanying it. Some stories and myths were better than others but I loved learning more. I definitely want a copy of this for my shelves to read over and over.

Simply gorgeous and super exciting! I was mesmerized by two things in this book, the art and the mythology. I plan on rereading just for the illustrations! Great coverage of stories from all over the world too! Perfect for elementary and middle school readers.

Thanks to NetGalley for the arc. I saw this cover and I immediately knew I had to request it since I've always been obsessed with mythology and legends from around the world, it was a must to request. And I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. One thing I absolutely loved about this collections of mythical stories was the illustrations throughout the book, as well as, the different sections which were divided by continents. I think there was a pretty good mixture of different mythical beasts even though I wouldn't mind having a second part because I definitely think that more stories could be tackled. Overall, really good book with stunning illustrations.

This book is an introduction to a selection of mythological and fantastical beasts from different folklore from around the world. Grouped into continents you have the opportunity to learn more about the creatures and read some accompanying stories. I loved reading the classic tales of Fenrir and Cerberus that I know and love. I discovered so many new stories my favourites were The Birth of Pegasus and The Dragon Pearl.

This book is a encyclopedia of tales from around some of the planets myths and legends.

A beautiful book to introduce children to the world of mythical creatures from around the globe. Split into different continents, it takes the reader on a journey. The illustrations are spectacular, bright and colourful. I had heard of some of these myths but there’s a lot that I haven’t. Most myths are just a single page of description and what the creature does but some go into more depth with a story behind the myth which I enjoyed. Not a bad beginners book.

Thank you to Laurence King Publishing Ltd for the Advance copy of this book.

The absolute beauty of presentation and ability to provide national pride and culture, beliefs in just 2 pages with the amazing illustrations and color selection that perfectly represents the nation, costumer, national representation, is just perfection,
In 2 pages the authors were able to give idea, data, information, illustration, the mythology behind, associated beliefs, colors of the national costumes that present beasts and creatures...
The book presents basic beasts and beliefs of continents by perfectly depicting the myth itself...
Language and interest keeping are absolute, without a question, a five-star worth content, illustrations, colors, just make you dive deep into the culture you know so little about...
References to initial myths are done beautifully, any child will be just drawn like a butterfly to these colors and objects, I am sure it took enormous research to understand and present each small symbols with the presentation of the myth.

I am so glad the authors and publishers presented such a treasure to young readers, helping to bring up a generation of curious and open-minded myth-lovers.

If possible, upon publishing and printing, please share a copy with me, I will treasure this book forever!
Absolutely stunning!

First thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the e-arc of this beauty!

That book was the definition of beautiful and breathtaking!

So the book is split into different parts, showing you the mythological creatures for each continents. You will travel from one continent to the other with new creatures in mind and new tales to share. Each creature has a double-page spread with beautiful illustrations and with an explanation and who they are and what they did. Sometimes you will even get the change to have two more pages sharing the tale of one of the creature letting you know it a little bit more...

I looooved that book and I will definitely buy a physical copy of it when it comes out. It was simply beautiful and really well-done. I think reader from all over the world from all ages who like mythology, creatures in general and beautiful illustrations will love this book. No need to rush and read everything at once. I want to start by thanking NetGalley and Good Wives and Warriors for sending me a copy of MYTHOPEDIA! It truly was a wonderfully written encyclopedia of mythical beast and their stories. I have such a love for storytelling and all mythologies, and MYTHOPEDIA brought me into so many new words rife with vivid creatures and their backgrounds. Personally, I would not recommend this for those who want incredibly detailed descriptions of different mythologies. However, MYTHOPEDIA opens up so many doorways into the cultures and lifestyles of other people, as well as their deepest loves and fears. Thanks to this encyclopedia, I now have a keen interest in Egyptian Mythology! That was my absolute favorite part of this book, since I already knew so much about the Norse, Greek, and Roman mythologies. The artwork is also stunning on multiple levels, and help the reader really visualize how majestic and powerful each mythical being is. I would definitely recommend this book to those of you who want an intro into numerous cultures and the creatures in their beliefs!

Encyclopedia about magical creatures??? I needed it. I love these kinds of books so much.
When I opened it, my mouth remained open. The book is full of beautiful illustrations.
There were a lot of mythical beasts in it, and I haven’t heard about most of them. Every beast has illustration so I could easily imagine them. There was also a lot of new information for me, and a lot of mythology, too. The truth is that I was bored in some places, I couldn’t concentrate on it completely. I’d rather put this book on a shelf and read it when having mood for it, not everything in one place.

My Hungarian version:
Enciklopédia mágikus lényekről??? Nekem kell. Imádom az ilyen fajta könyveket.
Amikor kinyitottam, eltátottam a szám.

I will be honest it was the cover that caught my attention first, it was so striking that my eye couldn’t help but be drawn to it and then as soon as I saw that it was a book about mythical beasts I knew I had to read it.

The illustrations in this book are just amazing, so vibrant and beautiful. Sometimes taking up a full page spread so that you can really get a feel for which mythical beast you are reading about and sometimes they are smaller to give a snippet of the story but let the words do the talking.

It is written in a very simple and easy to understand way and is split into sections of the different continents of the world. Some of the beasts have just a page explaining where they originated, what they are said to look like and what they do but others then have another page spread telling a story that goes along with their description, I found these fascinating.

I had heard of a few of the creatures of but there were lots that I hadn’t and it was really interesting to find out about ones from different parts of the world. I think the mythical creatures from Asia were my particular favourite in terms of narrative, although some of my favourite illustrations were in the Europe section.

I quite liked that there were some elements of the tales that I know of outside of these stories. As an example there is a story about a raven who turns itself into a seed which is swallowed by a woman and becomes a baby, this is a concept that we have used in my family, just without the raven and the rest of its story. I don’t know where it came from but it was interesting to see it reflected in one of the tales and to think that a lot of sayings that we have in the present day have probably been passed down as stories or parables since the dawn of time but that we have moved away from its original myth.

This book is a spectacular collection of illustrations and myths and would look marvellous on any bookshelf.

Myths always contain weird, beautiful, magical creatures and this book compiles a list that is by no means exhaustive but fun to read.

All beings are sorted by the continent on which their tales are told. Of course, I knew all the European monsters, especially as the focus is on Greek/Roman and Norse stuff. I have to nitpick at the names that were chosen. We have pegasus but Heracles which makes no sense at all. I'm nitpicky, I know.

Apart from that, I learned a lot. Even when I heard about a creature, like the thunderbird, I learned a specific tale about this entity. Especially the South American beings were fun, like the pink were dolphin who comes out when there's a party going on at full moon in the neighborhood.

The illustrations look like coloured pencil and watercolour to me, are very detailed and fit nicely to the text. All in all, this book does what it set out to do very nicely and if you want to look at pretty pictures and learn more about mythical creatures, this one is for you.

I recieved a copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an advanced copy of “Mythopedia: An Encyclopedia of Mythical Beasts and Their Magical Tales” by Good Wives and Warriors. Thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book is a beautifully illustrated middle grade collection of myths from around the world. The artwork is stunning from page to page and I imagine a physical copy would do them justice the best. I was familiar with a few of the myths, but most were new to me. I definitely would have loved this book as a kid and I throughly enjoyed reading the stories and looking at the illustrations. I think readers of all ages would enjoy this book especially if they have an interest in expanding their knowledge of myths. This book seems like a library must-have. I’d love to see a sequel or series of these lovely books!

This book is not only beautiful to look at but also incredibly fun to read! This artwork is so wonderful that it’s easy to picture the stories of each different creature in your mind. I’m not sure enjoyed the book more, myself or my niece! We’ve flipped through the book multiple times going over all our favorite art and stories. Thank you so much NetGalley for sending me a copy of Mythopedia!

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

This is one of the most beautiful children's books I have seen in a long time! This book is crammed full of amazing mythological creatures with fabulously colourful and detailed illustrations and an abundance of information too.

I loved how the book was sectioned into parts of the world these mythological creatures originated from and how most of them had more than a page devoted to them.

Children will love reading this and will gaze upon the beautiful illustrations too.

Mythopedia is an incredibly illustrated and colourful guide to all things mythical creatures from all over the world.

As a huge fan of anything mythical, this was a great read for me. I loved that it didn't just focus on the most commonly known mythologies, but branched out to cultures I hadn't read anything about before. Though this is aimed at children, it's a wonderful and informative read for people of any age.

What makes this book stand out for me in particular is the care that has gone into illustrating it. It brings the creatures to life, and there are dozens of little details to be discovered in the background. It's absolutely stunning.

Highly recommend!

Mythopedia is a gorgeously illustrated, accessible adventure across folklore and traditional storytelling of many cultures and peoples of the world. The illustrations are detailed, colorful, and eye-catching, spread out over many pages or as little, delightful details to the longer stories within.

When approaching folklore and stories of other cultures, especially those often appropriated and marginalized, it is important to do so with care and respect. These stories about ancient creatures and beings do not ever label their tellers and believers as savage, uneducated, or primitive. They are treated with both wonder and appreciation, making sure to explain that there are many versions of the stories. Mythopedia enables its readers, especially younger ones, to not create monoliths of any one culture and its traditions.

These all appear to be well-researched and honestly told; if there is no conclusive ending to be found, no ending is made up which is crucial in all kinds of stories. There is, as always with these kinds of books, concerns about telling other people's stories via outsider tongues and hands, and trampling on sacred stories that should not be shared with outsiders. I am hopeful that since everything else in this book has been so kind that these ideas were also taken into consideration.
