I requested this book because I had read an interview with Ben Fogle over the summer and was intrigued by the premise.

This is a lovely, illustrated, short chapter book suitable for early readers looking to move on from reading schemes.

Mr Dog is a wonderful, compassionate character who tries to help those in hardship around him. In this title, he wants to reunite Bobbin, an abandoned fawn, with her mother. The book shares lots if interesting facts as part of the narrative like ‘fawns had no smell until their scent glands developed’.

This is a great book for children who are developing their reading confidence. It has good pace and contains many fabulous illustrations so that it doesn’t feel too daunting. The language used is very accessible too with amusing results: Mr Dog crawls like a ‘shaggy commando’ and admits he needs a ‘helping hoof’.

This is a book with a social conscience. Children will giggle their way through it picking up facts and useful information along the way. I can see this being a big hit in my school library and will definitely be stocking the title.

In this fifth book in the series, Mr Dog is back helping animals in need. Whenever there’s an animal who needs a friend, he is always happy to lend a hand!

In this adventure mystery, Mr Dog finds a sweet young deer in trouble. After rescuing her, he does all he can to help her be reunited with her mother. It’s not straightforward as there are grumpy landowners and developers to contend with making the forest unsafe. Along the way, the brave duo meet many other animals who help them with clues to their mystery. A badger, stallion and alpaca are among the wonderful creatures they encounter.

Mr Dog is a charming, loveable dog who faces danger head-on. His bravery and clever deduction skills make him a great role model and fantastic hero. Readers will want to read all of his adventures and wait eagerly for the next!

Written by adventurer Ben Fogle and children’s author Steve Cole, these stories reflect Ben’s own sprit of positivity and courage with Steve’s flair for language and creativity.

Thank you to Harper Collins Children’s Books and NetGalley for this fun book!

Another lovely animal story in the Mr Dog series. In this one, we see Mr Dog help a three legged doe and her young fawn. I love the humour with all the deer puns, the facts about the deer (that Fogle sprinkles throughout the story) as well as the environmental issues addressed. I think this is going to be a very popular series of books within our library.
