This is my least favourite of Lisa’s books - so sorry to say! I couldn’t gel with any of the characters so ultimately didn’t really invest in the story.

I guessed the twist early on and just wanted to know what happened to Caro. Amanda was an under used character- I wanted to know more about her but it was very Sadie focused.

The chapters were a tad disjointed with some written from Ellie’s pov and some - a bit randomly towards the end - suddenly from Rupert’s.

It was easy enough to read overall but didn’t hook me in.

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

The story centres around Rupert and Emily. Rupert lost his wife, Caro, a year before he advertises for a housekeeper. Emily is fresh from an awful break up, living in a flat above a kebab shop with her friend Mags. Emily sees the advert and applies for the housekeeper job. Emily lands the job and starts working for Rupert.

Rupert and Emily realise there is a spark between them and embark on a whirlwind romance, quickly getting and engaged and then married.
Rupert works for his deceased wife’s parents, and still moves in the same social circles as when he was married to Caro. He had old friends from university among others. Sadie is one of his good friends he’s known for years. Sadie is a horrible character. She befriends Emily, but all is not as it seems. Emily asks many questions about Caro’s suicide, and realises someone is watching her, leaving suspicious signs, and breathy phone calls, and horrible texts. Emily is worried it’s her ex, who was a nasty piece of work. As Emily digs deeper there’s lots of secrets and lies.

I enjoyed this book, but I did guess some of the twists. The characters were great, most of them unlikable which makes the book even better. The story is a good mix of secrets and lies being exposed. There was still a couple of twists I had t already guessed. Overall this is a good psychological thriller. Lisa Hall is a great author and always delivers a fast paced, page turning, book.

Twist after twist after twist.
Absolutely amazing!
I loved this book. Just when you think you've got it all figured out, something else happens that completely shocks you.
Emily is such a surprising character and you can't help but love her

It had been a while since I'd last read a thriller which is always a favourite genre of mine so I was so excited to get stuck into The Perfect Couple by Lisa Hall! Overall I really enjoyed this and it kept me on the edge of my seat from the very beginning. I didn't trust either Rupert or Emily throughout, they both seemed like they had their own secrets and weren't really who they made out to be which made for an interesting read. There were quite a few twists and turns throughout, a few I didn't see coming but I did feel the ending was a little quick and slightly anti-climatic. I'd have liked a few more chapters maybe!

WOW..... some great twists and turns in this one, especially at the end.... never thought it 🤦‍♀️ I loved this, great story and characters, didn’t really take to any of them, however that’s the whole point of the book.

Emily has just got out of an abusive relationship, is living uncomfortably with a friend and has no job. Rupert is a rich, handsome and young widower who needs a housekeeper. Emily applies for the job and guess what she gets it and they fall in love..... The Perfect Couple or not?

There’s plenty of red herrings, Emily questions her instincts, and comes across weak and shallow, she’s so spiteful towards Mags her flat mate. She’s not a very nice person deep down. Sadie and Amanda are a couple of real bitches and there’s a lot of secrets, dishonesty and menace flying around. Is Emily paranoid or going mad?

Nothing is as it seems. Hall is an accomplished writer and weaves a great plot together. A great psychological thriller. This gripped me from the start, a quick and easy read and I’d most definitely recommend.

Definitely 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me.

Thank you to the author, Netgalley and HQ for this eARC provided in exchange for this unbiased review.

In real life, I have met quite a few widows and widowers get involved with a housekeeper or gardener. So I real was looking forward to reading a fictional view of this. It definitely did not disappoint, it in reality I’d I had have read this book when I was a widow at 29. It would of. Put me off even considering getting involved with anyone again. It’s certainly gives you one hell of a jolt of what people do. I loved the book, as the author describes it a game of cat and mouse. I would say it was more a tiger after its prey well written, I was sat on the edge of my seat, finding myself wanting to shout out no no no. I was completely absorbed in this book I read in one sitting time just seemed to fly. I am a big coffee drinker. When I went to make one my phone The kindle came with me. That’s how much I did not want to put it down. So many twists and turns it could make you feel dizzy. With a surprising ending. It’s so hard to tell you how much I enjoyed and would recommend this book without giving spoilers away. I will not do that. But please trust me it’s one book that really keeps your eyes glued to the pages. I enjoyed it. Brilliant read

I think I spent most of this book holding my breath! I wanted to race through it to see if I was right in my thinking, but of course, I was so wrong! A very good, fast paced book which I thoroughly recommend

When Emily applies for a job as a housekeeper for widower Rupert, it’s a chance to start over – a steady job and regular money means she can work towards her own place, not sharing a grimy flat with old mate, Mags.

As Emily gets to know more about Rupert’s world – how he likes his supper when he comes in from work, who his friends are – she can make sure everything runs like clockwork for him.

Soon there’s a spark between them; Rupert likes Emily and invites her to stay. For good.

To the outside world, they really seem to be a perfect match. There’s just the small issue of what really happened to Rupert’s first wife…

A gripping, razor-sharp game of cat and mouse, from the bestselling author, Lisa Hall.

My Thoughts

This novel has so much going on and I flew through it.  So many questions are reared during the first half of the book and I had to keep reading until I knew the answers.  I will apologise for my vague review however this is a novel you need to read with a s little background as possible beyond the blurb.

Despite having a seemingly perfect life together after a whirlwind romance, there are indications that all is not well in paradise.  Emily is receiving sinister messages, Rupert seems to keep secrets - particularly around his deceased first wife, Mags (Emily''s friend) seems to be acting strangely and Rupert's friends all seem to be a little off.

Lisa Hall has a knack for creating characters that the reader does not fall immediately in love with.  Each of the main characters behave in ways that arouse suspicion.  As a reader, I bonded with none of the characters but boy was I fascinated by each and everyone of them.

The plot develops quickly and moves at a fast pace and little clues are dotted throughout the whole novel although I had so many theories about what was happening and they constantly changed.

This book is a great domestic thriller and I highly recommend it.  It kept me on my toes throughout and built to a fabulous finish.

Emily lives with her friend Mags in a bedsit that has seen far better days. Rupert lives in a beautiful house, all alone since his wife died. When Emily starts working for Rupert as his housekeeper, they both quickly realise that they are falling for each other, but Emily needs to find out what happened to Rupert’s first wife.

Emily was not only looking for love she was looking for a whole new life, but at what cost.

I love how the author introduces two people who at first glance seem perfect for each other, but then slowly as each layer is removed either a secret is revealed, a truth turns to a lie until eventually mistrust and jealousy replaces all the love and trust between them.

Lisa Hall has written a dark and twisty psychological thriller that I raced through so fast I was left breathless by the time I reached the end.

As a massive lisa hall fan I was so excited to be able to read this and it certainly didn't disappoint I was hooked from the first page and read it whilst spending a lazy Sunday in the sunshine. This was a couldn't put down twisty domestic thriller which kept me guessing and wanting to keep reading more the charActers were brought to life and the storyline was good. Highly recommend this as a perfect summer read

Brilliant book , would have been 5 stars but for the needless storyline with the kitten . Apart from the fact I’m sick of reading about animal abuse in every book I read , you know exactly what is going to happen every time they get given an animal , it’s going to die a horrible death . Taking that aside I loved the book , great storyline and characters , I wasn’t sure who was doing what to who most of the way through . Great ending, I will be looking for more from this author in the future

Yet again Lisa Hall has written an absolutely cracking psychological thriller. I was hooked on this book right from the first page. This book had plenty of twists and turns and will really keep your interest until the final sentence.

I was given a free copy of this book by Net Galley in return for a review.

This is the second Lisa Hall book I’ve read, the other being The Party and on the strength of those two, I’d definitely read more of her books!

This one kept me hooked from the first couple of chapters, and I read it over the course of 2 days! It’s a good thriller, with plenty of people to be suspicious of, and a good twist.

The one thing I found a bit strange was the change of style - Emily’s story is written in the first person, but when it changes to Rupert, they’re both in third person. It’s a bit strange, and I had to go back and forward the first time I noticed it as it seemed like a mistake.

Not a big deal, and not put my off reading more!

WOW! This book will have you in knots. Nothing is as it seems for Caro, Rupert and Emily. Superbly written, this story drew me in at page one, only spitting me out at the end. 5 stars.

Enjoyed reading this domestic thriller.

The beginning art of this story (as in setting the scene) was a bit long winded for me but towards the middle and end of the story it really picked up the pace for me and I couldn't put it down!

Full of suspicion and suspense!.

My Review:

Wow, wow, wow, this book kept me up all night and I had no regrets in the morning. This is the first book by this author that I read and I can’t wait to read more. I had won this book on a Facebook contest and I’m so lucky that I did. I got introduced to my new favorite author.

This book was about Emily who went through a bad break up and her trying to move on with her life. She answered an ad for a house cleaner and she never bargained for a husband out of it. Was this a perfect couple story? Did it have a happy ending? What could really go wrong? Oh you find out these answers and much more.

I want to start off by saying this is definitely not your typical love story. There were sinister things at play and I loved that about this book. This whole book was not what it seemed. When I thought one thing was going to happen, nope, another thing did. I was way off base and I loved that. It kept me guessing the whole entire book. You never knew which character was hiding the best secret as they all had something they were running from. This whole book worked so well together with the characters and all the twists. I felt like I was on a merry go round that I never wanted to get off from. Lisa Hall definitely knocked this one out of the ball park.

Between the plot, characters and all the twists in this book it made it an easy and fast read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I did enjoy this but sadly not as much as I would have liked. I found it a little slow and predictable in places. Although it had a good storyline and strong characters. However, there are a lot of excellent reviews for this book so perhaps it was just not an exciting one for me.

Thank you HQ and Netgalley

The Perfect Couple is a great psychological thriller. Great characters and well written. The story is centred around Emily and Rupert. One is out of an abusive relationship and the other is recently widowed.
They get together when Emily becomes a housekeeper for Rupert. They marry but is the marriage everything it seems and who do you believe.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the arc in return for an honest review
