⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 for The Wish List by Sophia Money-Coutts I’m struggling to sum this book up in all honesty because whilst I really did enjoy it, it is unnecessarily long and a bit chaotic in places. It’s a basic story - girl struggles to find boyfriend and then falls fast for the wrong one. However! I’m still giving it 3.5 stars because I really liked Florence. Lovely Florence and her counting, her games of Consequences and her love for her 17 year old cat Marmalade. I loved her sisters and I even enjoyed the daft character of her step mother. Rory (our leading man) is truly horrendous. An upright conservative politician who thinks he’s headed for Downing Street, he’s totally self centred. Him, his family and his posh friends were all rather over the top ‘posh’ and that grew a bit tiresome at times, but the introduction of lovely Zach (along with Florence’s delightful colleagues at work) saved the male race for me in this book! All in all a fun read, especially if you’re a big fan of chic lit tropes. |
A new author for me and will definitely be reading more by Sophia Money-Coutts. Such a lovely book to snuggle up with. Such a lovely fun light-hearted read! |

Found the main character irritating and a tad too quirky to be likable, and the pace of the book was also very slow and it felt like a slog through. The writing was good, funny even at times, but it just didn't flow, like I couldn't get in and start reading and then when I next blink, 10% of the book was gone (it was more like 2% this time all while I wondered, That's it???) Sadly, could not get into this one |
1.5 stars I disliked this book. A lot. From the synopsis, I thought this was going to be a cute romance between a girl who works at a bookshop and a guy who is the perfect match to 'the wish list' that she wrote at the beginning of the book. But that is not what this book is at all. From the beginning, I straight away disliked Florence. The moment when she said that she thought men using an umbrella because it was not 'manly' was the moment I knew I hated her. The only time I remotely felt something other than hate towards her was when her cat died. Then I disliked her sisters, who gave Florence so much terrible advice and were just as judgemental as Florence. Then I met Rory, who is by far one of the most irritating characters I have ever read in my life. The whole shouting 'cowabanga' thing when he orgasmed (was that supposed to be something I found funny? Because I really didn't) gave me second hand embarrassment, and then him cheating on her? I guessed that would happen but still, that makes him a terrible character. Basically, Rory was just awful, but so was everyone else in this book. The beginning of this book was so slow and it took so long for the pace to pick up but it did eventually so that was one positive aspect about it because at least it felt like I was finishing it faster when I was skim reading it. The only reason I am giving this book 1.5 stars is because of Zach. He was the only tolerable character and he deserved better than to have to deal with these awful people. Also there was no chemistry between Florence and Zach. There was more chemistry between Florence and Rory (probably because they were both awful people), but the chemistry between Florence and the guy she ends up with at the end was basically none excitant. She spends the first 60/70% of the book judging Zach because he has tattoos and because he works temporarily for his uncle at the book shop, and then all of a sudden, she has a crush on him and is thinking about him whilst having sex with Rory?? That does not make any sense to me. Basically, I hated this book. A lot. I would not recommend this book to anyone but if you want to read it, go ahead but expect a book about a lot of horrible characters. I now want to erase this book from my memory because I never want to have to think about it again. The cover of this book is so pretty and deserves a lot better than the terrible story inside it. Thank you to HQ for providing me with an advance copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. |
Very enjoyable stor4y with lots of humour. Just what you need when in lockdown. Great characters and a believable storyline |
I adore Sophia’s writing style, and stories but this one just didn’t grab me as much as her previous work. Great premise, and definitely a good read. I just found that I struggled to connect with the characters. |
Unfortunately I did not really enjoy my time reading this book. I requested this book hoping for it to be a very upbeat, funny rom-com that would make its place in my heart but sadly that were not the case. I just felt very bored by the book, the characters felt very dull and forgetful. I was very disappointed as I was really hoping for this to a very delightful read. |

A love coach advises Florence to write a wish list of what she wants in a man and then universe will deliver. The she meets Rory, who seems perfect, but does have some annoying habits. She is happy in her work at a bookshop and wants to save it from closing, which brings Zach in to her life. He doesn't meet anything on his list, but is he the man perfect for her? |
The wish list is a laugh out loud , fun and light read , perfect for the lazy sunday afternoon. The main character is a librarian that has to make a wish list for how the perfect man would look like and , surprise! She actually finds someone very similar but is he really The One? There's a big mixed cast of characters here and each one adds something good to the overall story, from her half sisters to her step mother and let's not forget Marmelade, her cat. If you are looking for a light, fun and fast romantic story, this one is definitely for you. |

An easy, light hearted romantic read. I enjoyed this book, although it was slightly predictable in places. |

32 year old Florence is single and, whilst she does have some insecurities which she manages in her own quirky way, she is relatively happy - she lives with her two half-sisters and her cat in her childhood home and has a job she loves in an independent bookshop. However, her stepmother is keen to see her settle down and sends her to a "love coach" who encourages Florence to write a list of the attributes of her perfect man. And hey presto Rory appears in her life, seemingly ticking the boxes on her wish list. Is he the man for her? If you are looking for a fun read, one that will make you laugh but also make you cringe at times, then I would highly recommend this. The diverse cast of characters are really well drawn and contribute to the story, and I defy anyone not to root for Florence. Whilst a little predictable, this book delivers what it promises - a well-written, easy read that leaves you with a smile on your face. Perfect escapism for a few hours! Florence the main character in this book is very likeable. She works in a bookshop (how cool for all us bookworms). She has a cat called Marmalade. We read about her love life and her wish list of her perfect man in which she completes whilst seeing a love guru. After giving in to her stepmother. Who is worried she will never meet someone. This book is funny with likeable, engaging characters. It makes you want to keep in reading. Great chick-lit and a perfectly good and easy read. |
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC version of this book. I found this book funny in parts an annoying others. perhaps too far fetched. Maybe I need to take a break from chick lit kind of books. I was drawn to the book because I'm also a bookworm who has thought about running a bookshop in the past and admittedly I really like Chelsea as an area. The book definitely applies various stereotypes so I read it in a light-hearted way without too many expectations. I also loved the sound of a wish list having done similar in the past loving the Law of Attraction and all that. I would still recommend this book to lovers of light hearted rom coms. I guess I've read too many recently. |
I absolutely adored this book! The storyline was so beautifully written, full to the brim of laugh out loud and heartwarming moments. The main character Florence was so loveable and unique, you just couldn't help cheering her on from the start...and the supporting characters just made this story all the more delightful. One of my highlights was definitely watching the relationship between Florence and Zach develop, and the ways in which this friendship helped her discover more about herself along the way. Absolutely beautiful story that is a definite must read! |
Properly funny, heartwarming and hot – what more could you ask for? I’ll definitely read Sophia Money-Coutts again. Thanks to HQ and Netgalley for the opportunity to read The Wish List in exchange for an honest review. |
This book is absolutely hilarious, I’ve never laughed at a book as much as I did with this one. If you need a good laugh then I would really recommend this book. I’ve not read any books before by this author, but I will definitely be looking in to what else she has written. If your ever tempted to make a wish list for the perfect man, then you’ll either never find him or he’s been right under your nose all the time and may not tick all of the boxes. 32 year old Florence Fairfax (Flo) had only ever had one short relationship while at university and has basically been single ever since, apart from the odd one night stand. She lives in the family home with her two half sisters. Their mother her step mother moved out a few years ago into a more upmarket South Kensington post code. Where she lives by herself unless her diplomat husband Henry Fairfax is home for a visit. Henry is an Ambassador in Argentina, so he isn’t home very often. Flo’s bedroom is in the converted attic, when her first stepsister Ruby was born her bedroom was moved up on to the next floor. Then when her second sister Mia was born they were all moved up another floor. Even though she loves her sisters dearly she sometimes feels alone and left out. As they have a connection with each other that she doesn’t have with either of them. Flo works in an old fashioned book shop called “Frisbee Books” in Chelsea. Which is owned by Norris. The book shop was passed on to him from a relative. She also works along side Eugene who’s main passion is acting, but with him not landing many parts he sustains his living expenses by working in the shop. One day Norris storms into the shop making an announcement that the landlord is yet again putting up the shops rent. Meaning he may have no other choice but to close the shop. So after a bad day at work with Norris’ news, the last thing Flo wants to do is go to the family meal at Claridge’s. Except she has no choice in the matter it’s to celebrate the engagement and the up and coming nuptials, of Mia and her boring fiance. Mia is the youngest sister and the wedding is in four months time. Even though they only recently got engaged, she wants a winter wedding as its more chic to have a winter wedding. At the family meal Flo’s step mother uses it as an excuse to grill her about her lack of boyfriends, and how she’s worried that she’ll never meet anyone or get married. So she suggests that she goes to see Gwendolyn a Love Coach/Guru that she read about in a posh magazine. To try and entice her a bit more she tells her that her practice in on Harley Street. The next morning it’s Flo’s turn to open the book shop, except when she gets there the shop has already been opened. When she walks in she finds that some books have been knocked over. That something has been spilt all over the floor and there is a motor bike helmet on the counter. She shouts out to see who is there, but no one answers. Until a stranger comes up from the cellar rooms with a mop and bucket. Flo isn’t in a great mood after last nights family meal and this strange man rubs her up the wrong way. It turns out that he is Norris’ nephew Stephen. Without telling anyone Norris has recruited him in an attempt save the book shop. Stephen is there to set up a new website for the shop along with other social media platforms. All the things Flo has been pestering Norris to let her do. So Flo feels some annoyance and resentment towards Stephen, so she tries to keep well out of his way. That same morning her step mother rings her at work to tell her that she has made an appointment with Gwendolyn the Love Coach/Guru. Yet again Flo has no other choice but to go. As Flo gets to the office for the Love Coach/Guru on Harley Street the office isn’t what she expected, and Gwendolyn isn’t what she expected either. She was dressed purple dungarees and green crocs which clashed with the consulting room as it was awash of salmon pink. Everything from the walls to the couch and curtains was salmon pink. Gwendolyn asked Flo a few questions after which she set her a task of making a kind of shopping list of what she wanted in a man. After about twenty minutes she’d managed to write a list. Just as she thought she was able to escape, Gwendolyn made Flo lie down on the couch. Telling her to close her eyes while she did a quick spell that would make her more open to love. A few days later after her encounter with Gwendolyn, a striking looking man walks into the book shop. His mother is one of the shops regulars and finds out that he is called Rory Dundee. This is the type of man Flo thought she should be dating. A few moments after he left he walked back in and ask if she would go out on a date with him. Was this the man she had always longed for? Flo’s family and friends all loved Rory all except Stephen that is, and he makes it known that he doesn’t like or approve of him any chance he gets. Which gets Flo’s back up even more and which also starts to put doubts in her mind. Will Flo come to her senses and realise that she is with the wrong man? As I’ve already said this is really really funny book and a great rom com, great for a cosy night in on a winters evening. |

It was pretty obvious to me early on in this book how the storyline was going to play out but it was so well written and the characters to captivating that I was still kept in some suspense throughout. The leading lady, Florence, was incredibly well portrayed and likeable. À great easy to read book if you require some escapism. |

A great holiday read. Light and funny. The characters are well developed and believable. I look forward to reading more by Sophia Money-Coutts. |
This was another brilliant novel by Sophia Money-Cutts! Since I read "The Plus One" I read her new novels religiously and they never disappoint. The Wish List revolves around Florence Fairfax and the man of her dreams, who she cannot wait to meet. One day at work, she meets Rory, who seems to be the man she has always dream about... or is he? Fantastically written and so tender and funny I would read it all over again. Highly recommended! |
