I can say that out of the series Calvin and Anna’s story has got to be my favorite!

Their chemistry and how they encourage the other to just be had me swooning! Their romance didn’t start off on the right foot and lead to some hilarious exchanges but their desire was palpable!

Many surprises, twists and turns and I love how the author keeps you addicted with her little added mysteries!

Great read!

3.75-4 stars. This was really good! I have been kind of in a book funk and this was just what I needed to snap out of it. Hooking Him is the third book in the How to Catch an Alpha series and is Anna and Calvin's book. Anna has recently moved to a small South Carolina town from Chicago, where she left an unhappy engagement, to find herself. She has a new best friend in her elderly, quirky landlady and a job working at the town bakery. She meets hot cop Calvin when her landlady is pulled over with her in the car on the way to bingo. He is interested in her right away, but she is reluctant to get into a new relationship. Still, he is convincing and the two soon fall in love.

This was just a fun, easy comfort read. I really liked Calvin and Anna. They were sweet and sexy together. Anna was not as immature or sassy as sometimes Ms. Reynold's heroines are. I loved the SC beach town vibe and it reminded me of home, as I was born and raised there. The elderly, Golden Girls-esque ladies were a hoot, too.

Overall, this was a good story, entertaining, sweet, sexy and enjoyable. I think this one is my favorite of this series. I look forward to more from Ms. Reynolds in the future!

Sexy and sweet:
Another great book in the How To Catch An Alpha series, which can be read as a standalone. It drew me in from the very beginning and I enjoyed the twist at the end.
I loved seeing Anna's strength and admired her courage as she sought to forge a new life for herself. Calvin was a protective alpha male, yet I liked how he was tender and sweet too. You could really feel the chemistry between these two and I loved the bond between them just got stronger and stronger.
I enjoyed the fact that this book had humour, but there is plenty of drama, mystery and romance too. I thought the quirky 'suggestions' at the beginning of each chapter were a fun touch.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions expressed are solely my own.

Hooking Him is the 3rd book in the How to Catch an Alpha series by author Aurora Rose Reynolds. I'm not a new reader to Ms Reynolds works, although I have yet to read this series. I was apprehensive if I was able to just jump into the book without reading the prior books. I was glad that I didn't have any problem at all reading this book.

This is a fun and quick read, Ms Reynolds writes really good characters and I really like both Anna and Calvin. There were actually first introduced in the earlier books, but as I said, I didn't have problems picking up the story. Though this book was a fun and flirty read, it does have some suspense. I enjoyed the book, the characters were well fleshed out and the world building was great. If you haven't check this book out, make sure you give it a read.

This book was gifted to me by NetGalley, however the views above are all my own.

Another ARR usual style book. Sam formula, different characters. Light read, nothing really crazy. The old ladies, the bakery and the serial killer plots all seemed forced at some points. But, it was still an ok read.

First of all, I want to thank Netgalley for the copy of this book, provided for an honest and unbiased review.

Unfortunately I not only disliked this book very, very deeply, I was extremely uncomfortable reading it. This book is about a woman who moves from a wealthy lifestyle in Chicago to a coastal tourist town in South Carolina and working at a bakery (sidenote: this entire setup of her suddenly being great at a bakery despite admitting having never cooked for herself in her life and having an apartment ON the beach with the money she makes from working at the bakery is incredibly unrealistic) and meets a cop and does some weird enemies-to-attracted situation.

I'll start with the parts that I just disliked. Aside from the unrealistic set-up to the story, the characters were just plain unlikable to me. Anna is *too beautiful*, *too sweet*, *too kind*, etc. etc. and her only "flaws" are her "deep dark" secret that she broke off an engagement with a man she didn't really love and that her family doesn't love her enough because they were just so rich and only cared about money. She simultaneously claims to be "more mature" than the elderly women she hangs out with but acts like and is fine with being treated like a child (pouting because she couldn't open a jar of spaghetti sauce and being perfectly fine with him saying that he should have opened it for her before he left for work??? what???) I'll discuss Calvin (her love interest) later because it was more than dislike, it made me deeply uncomfortable. Even the side characters were one-dimensional. The dialogue was dry and unrealistic, with too obvious exposition to treat the reader like someone who cannot grasp context clues. The sex scenes weren't engaging in the slightest (and DANGEROUS to boot, more on that later). And to top it all off, the plot was a disaster. It felt like it was going nowhere, then suddenly a serial killer/mystery is introduced halfway (i.e. far too late) through the novel, then only mentioned in incoherent spurts, then wrapped up in a convoluted way that made absolutely no sense and only furthered Anna's "woe is me, I am a victim of circumstance and too good for this world" status.

As for the downright uncomfortable? Calvin is disturbing as a love interest. On his second meeting with Anna (at a barbecue) his own Father just casually mentions to Anna that she's been "claimed" by him, he's unsettlingly possessive, talks about what he wants rather than asks her, brings up kids suddenly on their first date, and when worried about her safety, risks the safety of a CHILD to have that child go check on her. If I ever met a man like Calvin, I would get a restraining order and run as fast as I could in the opposite direction. He was as toxic as her family, but the book tried to romanticize it. It's not healthy. It's not cute. It's disturbing.

Lastly, I do not know WHY some authors think blowing into a vagina is sexy. It's not. And in rare cases, it can cause an air embolism which can kill someone. It's dangerous.

All in all, if it weren't for the fact that I committed to review this book, I would have DNFed it less than two chapters in.

Anna left her entire life to start over. Calvin protects the town he grew up in and loves. When the two of them meet neither one is looking for love. This book keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering what’s next. Definitely recommend this one!

Hooking Him
How to Catch an Alpha, Book 3

By: Aurora Rose Reynolds

Easy too love???

How to start this review? Book 3 How to Catch an Alpha, Book series has so much to unpack. First even though it’s 3 in the series it’s an absolute stand alone and no other books need to be read. However if you haven’t read 1 and 2 go pick them up so worth it.

Let’s see Anna takes a minute to root for but you’ll understand from the beginning of the book why. Calvin you’ll like from the get go even if he’s a bit high handed. The chemistry between these two was amazing and the book a great story to tell. The writing is flawless, and the words are so captivating, the plot had so many twists and turns and none that I was expecting, and many shocking moments. I really enjoyed this book and it kept me engrossed throughout. I really loved the characters and the way they interacted with each other. This is a fun, hot, romantic must read book and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone.

Anna McAlister needs a new life. But that doesn’t mean she needs a new man. After leaving her fiancé and Chicago behind, she promises herself no dating until she finds what she’s looking for. But meeting one seriously hot and determined detective has her questioning herself.

Calvin Miller is that detective, and he’s been burned by women in the past. It’s easy for him to sleep alone and focus on his work, but the moment he lays eyes on Anna, he starts imagining sexy nights with her wrapped in his sheets. Maybe it’s time to get back out there.

But just as the attraction between them begins to sizzle, Anna’s past shows up to create trouble. And to make matters worse, a string of murders forces Calvin to juggle his new relationship and his career. His worst fear? That the two are somehow connected.

Can they find love together, or will her past and his duty sink their hopes?

This book has everything I love in a book. Then you add that it's beautifully written and believable. It is easily a five star read. Written in dual POV my personal favorite this story flows so incredibly well that the next thing you know your 80% into the book and loving every second of it. The believable way the characters interact is perfect. Run, Hop, Jump or use your (1 click) finger to do whatever you have to do and get this amazing book. It'll break your heart, you'll want to scream with frustration and it'll let you discover that love just might conquer all. The chemistry is steamy and sweet and oh so romantic.

Thanks Netgally for letting me read and review.📚💕

I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. I was like "OK, now this is going to happen and mess everything up." Eeerrrr!!! Wrong! The book keeps you guessing and it has a lot of drama involved. Drama tends to follow Anna everywhere... But, it's all good because Calvin is such an alpha. He decided on his own to take claim of Anna and he is just going with it. Nothing can deter this detective. He is very reliable, protective and I like how he moves the relationship along with her in a natural way. Nothing feels forced with him. That and all the happiness he he brings into her life with the help of friends and some free spirited old ladies, is exactly what Anna was searching for. She just needed a valuable family.

Hooking Him, book 3 and final book to the How to Catch an Alpha series was just as good as the first two. You really can not go wrong with any of this author’s books. I am constantly falling in love with all the characters and in this one, it is no different. Anna McAlister had left her life, family, friends and even her fiance behind in Chicago after realizing she did not like where her life was heading. She is now living a simpler life in a small town, working at a bakery and finally has her heading in the right direction. She has some hilarious neighbors that make her life fun and interesting. But one thing she is not interested in and not quite ready, is being in a relationship. Unfortunately for her the local police detective, Calvin Miller, has set his eyes on her. What ensues is a fun and sexy dance between two people who are made for each other. Add in a little bit of murder and suspense and pesky past relationships made their journey so much more enjoyable and satisfying when they reached their happily ever after.

Thank you to Netgalley and Montlake Romance for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book. All opinions are my own.

This was a very quick and satisfying read. I loved the characters straightaway: Anna for her courage in breaking with her old life and making new home and new friends, and Calvin for being very protective and thoughtful. I'm not a big fan of instalove, but this couple clearly had great chemistry. The Golden Girls were hilarious and absolutely right in their conviction that we need to live our life right here and now.
Without giving away much, there is a life-death situation, and there is also a mystery, in addition to the main storyline which focuses on romance.
Ideal for readers who are looking for a light summer read with the right amount of steam and lovely characters.
Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake Romance for the ARC provided in exchange for an honest opinion.

A fun, flirty story with an instalove feel, some drama, laughs and a bit of suspense. An enjoyable, quick read.

Calvin is just all sorts of a distraction, “I can’t think with you half-naked,” I confess, and he laughs. “I’m not being funny, Calvin.” I look up at him." I liked this book, I liked Calvin.

ARC received for review

We met the very hot police detective Calvin back in book one and sweet Anna in book 2 when she comes to work at the bakery. They are great together Calvin is hot and sweet, but not as yummy as Gaston Baiting Him. Her parents and ex are a piece of work. There's a whole lot of mentioning of his ex, but no explanation about that relationship. There is a "serial killer" going around, and I sure didn't pick that person as being it. Loved the old ladies.

Thought this was a really cute read. Not her strongest series but it'll help any romance reader get out of a reading slump.

This was a sweet romance book with alpha hero and sweet heroine. It had a hea and was great! I did not see the killer coming in the end which was a plot twist by the author but I love ARR books for her couples and friends and family bonds she Surrounds them with!

I have been lucky that I have been able to read all of these standalone books in this series. One of my favorite things about this author is that her books are always great for putting me in a good mood or being a book palette changer when I need to recoup from something dark and heavy, or sad, and gut-wrenching.

The foundation of her stories seems to always be built upon a story that has little to no angst, lots of humor, and a very cute romance between the main characters as they find their HEA. That was most assuredly the case in this book. I had to laugh at the side characters in this one, A LOT. I appreciated Anna and realizing the importance that life isn't just about material things or status. And Calvin? Yeah, yet another amazing ARR hero. She sure knows how to give her audience what they want.

Anna McAlister left her entire life behind in Chicago needing a new start after realizing she wasn't happy. Moving to the South Carolina coast and working in a bakery, renting a small apartment from Edie, she feels like she finally belongs even though her life is the polar opposite of what it used to be. Calvin Miller, a local detective, is focused on solving a murder, he wasn't planning on meeting anyone. Anna's captured his attention, now he just wants hers despite everything else going on around them.

Hooking Him is a sweet, quick, small-town read with a bit of a mystery thrown in. It has plenty of humor thanks to the "Golden Girls", a trio of octogenarians who are constantly stirring things up. Despite the murders (which don't really play a large part of the plot until the end), it's a fairly light read with some family drama.

I was a little disappointed by this story. I wanted to know more about the main characters and the story seemed a little disjointed.
