A balanced book looking at ways we can combat climate change and other impending disasters. An early example of this type of book and a good attempt at working through the issues.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book but such an eloquently written call to action was not it. Cole's writing style is on the right side of florid and covers a broad range of subjects, with an intelligent view that is thought provoking. Not something I would usually select but has got me thinking.

Very thought provoking and informative. Brilliantly written on the future of our planet. It's a very well balanced view of what is happening, such as the climate crisis, and what many people throughout the world are doing to ensure there will be a future.

I began to read this book, however I did not finish it and so I cannot review this book fully - there is no specific reason for not liking this book. I found it a struggle to read and couldn’t keep trying to force myself to read it as it just wasn’t for me.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused, I won’t be posting this as a review online other than here. I do thank you for the opportunity to read this book.

I really wanted to like this book, but unfortunately it was quite a let down. It was cringingly trite and full of mind-numbingly obvious platitudes.
It’s all been said before, and with much more originality. I’m so sorry Lily, it’s admirable to use your status to voice genuine concerns and thoughts on life: indeed, the intention is honourable, but the execution I’m afraid to say was a disappointment.

Hello,

The ebook I’ve received is full of glitches: the pages are missing parts, to then be found a couple of paragraphs after. It’s impossible to follow properly the thoughts of the author and it’s a shame as I found the topic really interesting.

I just wanted to let you know for future references :)

Thank you anyway for the opportunity

I initially started reading this last year, at the height of the pandemic. Which in retrospect, wasn't the best idea as a general pessimist reading a book on optimism during a crisis probably wasn't a good match.

Anyway, I gave it another go and found the book to be very well thought out and thought provoking, particularly in the areas of climate change and the environment.

Wow! I was not expecting this book to be so deep, detailed, and truthful! It was thus a pleasurable surprise to find that it is not a manifesto per se, but a tagging of every type of technology and advancements going on out there in so many different fields, in order to make Earth a better place for our children but also for us, too, as many of these advancements could probably happen in our own lifetime, especially for those of us around the same age as the author and our own kids.
The only peeve I have with this book is that it didn't delve into the world of beauty and skincare and makeup - water use is a huge deal in those industries, and with the move already to bar shampoos and the like, or waterless skincare - it kinda felt that this could've been covered as well because in no world can I see us as people giving up our skincare and beauty products and makeup
Still, this is an immense work of research and one I feel the author should definitely be commended for!

A very in-depth look at ways we can improve the environment and our world. I found this book really interesting and the facts shocked me at times - was very informative.

Yes yes yes! Positivity wins! I love this book and standard penguin bagsying the soul movers. Describes how the future of our planet can be saved and changed if World leaders unite and listen to what science is telling them. Deeply moving and informative.

Thank you to the publisher for the opportunity to read a free advance copy of this book. Unfortunately I hadn't found time during the year to read this book, and so I will be picking up a paid copy in 2021 to support the author instead as an apology.

The central question reading this book left with me was – how can we each have a tangible impact through action?

Who Cares Wins is a comprehensive look at how our lives impact the planet and how we can respond to the climate emergency challenges we face. It considers the day-to-day aspects of our lives, from food and fashion to travel and shelter. It also reviews the range of responses that we, humans, make.

It made me more aware of how messy our world is and how few of our decisions are straightforward. Lily made me realise that we must navigate our world with hope and humility.
That is an essential aspect of the way that Lily approached her topic.

Who Cares Wins is an invitation to be the best that we can be, working out a collaborative, creative, inclusive, and joyful future! It was one of my favourite books of the year so far.

Not something I would normally read but interesting enough to keep me reading.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC in return for an honest and unbiased opinion.

This book is so much better than I expected. If I'm honest, I thought it would be fairly generic self-help, but it is actually a really well-researched and well-written exploration of what can be done to improve the world, with regards to both small and large scale problems.

Yes, there are sections that are uncomfortable, and upsetting, but these sections are followed up with ideas for real solutions that could actually be viable, rather than just being a depressing dump of information about how bad things are. However, this books also isn't even remotely preachy - instead, the reader is provided with both perspectives, and encouraged to come to their own conclusion. This made it really interesting, and also made it feel like you as an individual could do things to help: something which is rare in these sorts of books. All in all, a really interesting and thought-provoking read, that offers genuine and well-researched actions to take to target a range of problems.

Disclaimer - I was fortunate enough to be provided with an advance reading copy of this book by NetGalley. This has not affected my review in any way, and all opinions are my own.

This is a must-buy for any friend who has told you you need to watch the David Attenborough documentary. What could have been a gloomy book on how we all need to do better, is actually a wonderfully optimistic tome that is well written and manages not to be preachy in its tone. This will be a great Christmas gift and the cover is absolutely stunning

Lily Cole writes well and is passionate about her subject. Possibly not the best time to read what could be quite a depressing book, but there is hope here too. Plenty to think about, and to realise that we can make a difference.

If you only read one more book in 2020, make it this one. Who Cares Wins is a thought-provoking, optimistic book about how every one of us has the power to help create a better world - from climate change and sustainability, to social justice. We can all have a positive impact and help change things, just from making different, more conscious decisions in our daily lives.

An invitation to all of us to reflect and do our part to make a better world, Who Cares Wins is an engaging read and a positive and solution-oriented consideration of how we negotiate a dark and uncertain future with hope and humility.

With thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC.

A positive and optimistic book that will make you reconsider your everyday choices, make you more environmentally conscious and think really hard about your impact on Planet Earth. Very well researched and educational.

Optimism demands action. Optimism is an active choice. Optimism is not naïve and it is not impossible. And nowadays, honestly, who wouldn't want to feel optimistic. Every day feels like another thing dragging the world down, or backwards, or back indoors. Full of thoughts and balance, and a sort of route map to positivity vs just proclaiming we should be positive. It's a balm for 2020.
