A lovely picture book for preschoolers about sibling rivalry and sharing, but also just a really fun read!

When Ralfy suddenly becomes a big brother there are lots of adjustments to be made, but at least Ralfy loves books so he can disappear into his own world. That is until he realises something is eating his precious books! When he realises its his new brother, rather than getting angry Ralfy does a really kind thing for his brother and a new friendship is kindled.

A lovely story with a lovely meaning too. I know many young book lovers who would like this tale.

Emily MacKenzie’s book-loving Ralfy Rabbit is back in this sweet mystery story in which Ralfy’s own books and library books keep getting chomped by a phantom book biter! Ralfy is horrified when he discovers the holes and is determined to get to the bottom of it. Of course, there’s a fairly simple explanation and a super cute and heartwarming resolution.

There are so many relevant lessons to take away from this story, particularly to our own current circumstances. There’s a helpful message about the difficulties involved in adjusting to having a mobile and troublesome baby or toddler in the house and how an older sibling might handle that with patience and empathy. There’s Ralfy’s logical approach to finding the book-biting culprit and his problem-solving skills. And of course, there’s Ralfy’s love of books, bookshops and libraries, which he eventually starts to encourage in his little brother, Rodney.

Wee Reader loved trying to work out what was going on in this story and definitely identifies with Ralfy on some levels! The illustrations are so engaging, and I have to admit I do love a book full of pictures of books!

A great one to gift to a child with a new younger sibling, or one who likes a good mystery!

When Ralfy's little brother Rodney is born, it's too loud for him to read at home. He heads down to the library, then discovers that his book has been attacked by a BOOK BITER!
This is such a wholesome story which is perfect for reading to older siblings who may be struggling to adjust to having a new little one around the house. I read it to my two little ones and my daughter pointed at her brother when Ralfy started describing how loud Rodney was. She looked very proud of herself!
A great story to promote reading for all ages, no matter how small (and bitey) they may be.

A gentle tale about the challenges of welcoming a new sibling and how reading and books can just be the thing to bring siblings together. Many little readers will recognise the destruction that younger siblings bring with them, but rather than vilify, Ralfy finds a wonderful solution to his book-biting little brother. A lovely book for siblings to be read to together.

The cover of this book is eye-catching and would be one that I am sure that people would want to pick up to see what the story is about. A catchy story about Ralfy Rabbit who wants to discover who the secret book biter is!! I think this book will be enjoyed by children who love books and have a baby sibling! The illustrations are colourful and this is a book that we shall read again and again. Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book.

Beware! Ralfy Rabbit and the Secret Book Biter - Emily MacKenzie

This is a book about a little boy rabbit who loves reading! But finds that there is a secret book biter in his home eating his favourite books...
I loved reading this book. From the start to the end it was endearing and several times it went into a direction that I did not expect! This picture book explores themes such as learning, family and problem solving. It would fit perfectly within a writing curriculum, especially at the start of the year when teachers are trying to introduce and engage children into that year’s reading curriculum. You could do tasks such as: design a perfect reading spot for Rolfy Rabbit, design wanted posters for the book eater! Draw your own favourite place to read etc...
A charming book, with beautiful and engaging pictures and storyline. A must ready for teachers and adults trying to engage reluctant readers!

Ralfy's reformed... but he's got lessons to learn about being a brother.

The first of this series is a favourite at bedtime in our house, we even have pictures from the book on the walls! I was thrilled to see there was a sequel, and my two (ages 9 and 3) were delighted to read it with me.

Ralfy, former book burglar, now enjoys buying books from bookshops and borrowing them from the library. He has a much-loved collection. But he's finding it hard to read these days, with his new baby brother making so much noise. And one day he is HORRIFIED to find that someone (or something) has taken a big BITE out the library book he is returning. On a mission to find out who, he might find he has to come up with ways to stop it happening again.

Most readers will guess the culprit, and my two were rather enchanted to see how Ralfy shows his tender 'big brother' side.

This demonstrates all sorts of lovely life lessons - not getting angry when there is a problem, solving your problems in steps and logically, thinking through solutions and alternatives, and of course, the idea that even young children love books and being read to.

Mackenzie has an unmistakable style of illustration, bright, hand-drawn colours with very cute rabbits. She again puts in some enjoyable-to-read alliteration and her passion for books not only shines through in Ralfy but she makes sure to hint that even the smallest children love board books and having their big brothers read to them. And I will always be grateful for the library plug.

Nice to see Ralfy's family in this book, and their home (carrot lamp, lots of bookshelves), and to see a very sweet fledgling sibling relationship. A great choice for new big brothers and sisters and any fans of Ralfy the Book Burglar.

For ages 2/3 and above.

With thanks to Netgalley for providing an advance reading copy.

What Ralfy loves most in the world is reading, but when he goes to the library for some peace and quiet away from his new baby brother, he discovers something terrible: someone is eating his books. Ralfy turns into a detective, questioning his family members and following the clues until he can find the culprit.

Family dynamics change quite a bit when a new baby arrives, and this picture book is a great way to explore those changes. Ralfy's little brother is very noisy and at first Ralfy worries he won't be able to enjoy his books any more. But by the end of the story, Ralfy has discovered a new way to bond with his little brother and they are able to enjoy stories together.

The artwork is brilliant: bright, fun and engaging. My children gasped when we reached the page with the first half-eaten book and I really enjoyed all the puns in the book titles (my favourites were Rabunzel and Harry Hopper and the Chamber of Carrots).

Thank you Bloomsbury for providing me with a digital copy for review.

I loved this book!!

The images were great and the story was excellent. Everything about the book worked for me and it had my daughter giggling too and is already a firm hit as we had to read it more than once!

5 stars from me, even if a few books were harmed in the making of the story :)

Very highly recommended and a great way to get older siblings to read to younger ones

Book loving bunny Ralfy Rabbit is back and this time he has a new baby bunny at home. His previously quiet world has gotten very noisy and distracting. Now it is a challenge to find a quiet place to spend time with his books.
Ralfy remembers one of his favourite spots- the library!
Picking up a book, he opens it ready to read but finds instead, a hole! Someone has taken a bite out of a book....Ralfy has found a mystery to solve.
Picking up his detective kit he gets ready to find the book biting culprit!
More and more books on the shelves at home have bites, teeth marks or favourite parts missing. This is a disaster and the culprit needs to be found soon or there will be no books left!
Hearing some noises, Ralfy finds the culprit....readers will guess who!
This is a super book featuring Ralfy, and it is so nice to have this book loving bunny back for another adventure.
Children will love the illustrations and the story of book biting- it will lead perfectly to discussions about care for books!

Adorable! Will certainly be adding this to future book orders!
