Marion Todd is one of my favourite authors and here in her latest novel, she does not disappoint.
Featuring D.I. Clare Mackay in Todd’s third novel, Clare has a security breach in her station and has to keep it a secret from her team. Gayle Crichton, a hacker for the police force turns up to help. It does not stop her from wondering which of her team members is a snitch. Also she has to deal with the murder of a university student and keeping safe a witness who is giving evidence against her husband after her first safe house was leaked.
Set up in St Andrews, the suspense is gripping with plenty of police procedures and Clare’s personal life again in the spotlight. I loved it and cannot wait for the next in the series.

Another excellent novel my Marion Todd, I am already waiting on tenterhooks for the next instalment. In this novel. DI Clare Mackay is summoned by DCI Gibson to a clandestine meeting with an ethical hacker to investigate possible leaks within Police Scotland. After the meeting they are on their way back to St Andrews when they receive a call to say that a witness under police protection is in danger and they have to move her. This is done safely but with what was said earlier at the meeting Clare doesn’t know who to trust, her Sergeant Dan, her friends and colleagues and perhaps even her boss. A thriller that I thoroughly enjoyed, my thanks to Canelo the publisher and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this novel before it is released to the general public.

Lies to Tell by Marion Todd is the third book in the Detective Clare Mackay series. I have read the previous two and I think this is the best one yet.
Set again in St Andrews Scotland Clare Mackay is helping a witness staying safe. She is a witness in a case involving her gangster husband. She is also investigating the murder of a university student.
She gets a call from DCI Gibson telling her that he has cancelled her meeting and is taking her to an unknown location. A bit cloak and dagger she thinks He drives her to an obscure location which turns out to be an underground bunker and meets Gayle Crichton. Who is an ethical hacker? She has been called in by Police Scotland as there is a internal security breach, for her to find out who has leaked the information. She has been told not to discuss this with anyone. But now Clare is thinking which member of her team she can trust.
This is another exciting episode in this series. I was hooked from the meeting in the underground bunker to the last page. I love the character of Clare her feisty character and her determination to get the job done. I also like how the author left the story with a cliff hanger. With the two men in her life, who will she choose?

Thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for the ARC in return for an unbiased review of this publication.
So this is the third offering from Ms Todd in the series and they just keep getting better.
All the usual characters from the previous two books and look for a couple of twists involving Claire and her colleagues.
This one sees two apparently unrelated cases, but you just know at some point there is going to be a twist.
Story develops well and is a fairly easy and pleasing read.
No hesitation in recommending either as part of reading the series in order or as a standalone read.
Here's to the next one !

Lies To Tell by Marion Todd is the third installment of a series based on DI Clare Mackay, and the second that I have had the pleasure to read and review. This series delivers compelling police procedurals with a feisty and appealing female protagonist at the helm of it all.

This time around, DI Mackay is on the case of an internal security breach within the Scottish Police Service. She is sworn to secrecy in all ensuing matters by ethical hacker Gayle Crichton, who does all she can to worm her way into Clare's life. At the same time, Clare's hands are full with the protection of a witness in an active murder investigation, and she wonders how she can possibly juggle it all, in addition to handling the mounting crises in her personal life.

This is a series that will hook you early, not only with its compelling crimes, but with a detailed exploration of the personal struggles and musings of a most likeable heroine in DI Clare Mackay. Long may the series continue.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Canelo for this ARC.

Marion Todd has delivered an excellent third novel in her DI Clare MacKay series in LIES TO TELL. This novel opens with Clare being whisked to a secret building by her DCI Alistair Gibson, with whom she has a bit of a rocky past. At the previously unknown bunker, Clare is confronted by a woman who reveals she is an ethical hacker and has been assigned the task of tracking a leak within Police Scotland. She is to be given space in Clare’s building and under no circumstances is Clare to reveal her true reason for being there. As they are returning to Clare’s precinct, the DI’s phone alerts them to the fact the location of a witness in protective custody within Clare’s district has been compromised. Clare, who was unaware of the witness prior to this, is both angry about not being notified and concerned about the witness’ safety. DCI Gibson does his best to explain the reasons behind the cloak and dagger, and Clare is swept up into several conspiracy threads. On top of the unknowns Clare is tracking, a young man enters the precinct to report a missing friend, but leaves prior to his report being taken. Before the investigation can begin in earnest, the young man goes missing, unexplained money is found at his location and later in the room of his missing friend and Clare is off and running on an investigation into money laundering, using students to move the money.
Todd does an excellent job of placing the reader in the proper place and time so that it is easy to follow the separate threads. She also gives just enough history to help the readers remember how various secondary characters relate to Clare and to each other. The result is a book that stands alone and can easily be read without having read the first two in the series and equally enjoyed by readers of the first two books who are curious about where this third installment is going to take the secondary stories.
There are several twists that, while not unexpected as to what was going to happen, were nonetheless unexpected as to the why. Regardless of whether or not the reader has “figured out” the twists, the ending resolutions are completely satisfying and leave the reader frustrated only with how long they have to wait for the next book in the series. A solid police procedural with excellent secondary characters and just enough secondary activity to round out the story make this a top notch book. My thanks to Canelo Publishing and NetGalley for providing me an advanced digital reader copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.

The third book in the DI Clare Mackay series in by far my favourite so far, don’t get me wrong I gave both previous books 5 stars as I loved them both but this one just racked up another notch and it was just superb. We meet again DCI Alistair Gibson from a previous book who takes Clare to a strange location where she is told that their has been a security breach and she is asked to accommodate Gayle Crichton who is an ethical hacker back at the station keeping her purpose for being there secret. On top of all this Clare is then thrown in to dealing with keeping a star witness in a forthcoming trial safe and a seemingly unrelated murder of a student, oh yes it’s all going on this book!!
Written as always so well by the super talented Marion Todd I just loved the book a police procedural with non stop action, twists and so many suspects that I was reeling with what was going to happen next.
It’s so satisfying when you read a book that you just can’t fault and we have it here in Lies To Tell it really is that good, such a fabulous plot line, exciting and brilliant characters so massive praise to Marion please keep on writing as quickly as you can this is a series that is getting better and better, a real not to be missed read and one that I can highly recommend, start with the first books if you can but this one can also be read as a stand-alone.
My thanks to NetGalley and Canelo for giving me the chance to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

I have been anxiously awaiting this book for awhile, and I am thrilled to say, it did not disappoint! So many twists and turns, doubting characters that you thought you knew.I thought I had i figuredout multipletimes, but no,not a clue. It definitely was not your typical crime thriller, it had a fresh take on cyber crimes. It was very engaging, and it let me intrigued about the possibilities of how this situation could so easily happen. Looking forward to the next installment of the book
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced copy of the book.

When DI Clare Mackay receives a text from DCI Alastair Gibson saying he is picking her up to take her to a meeting Clare is a little worried and a lot intrigued.
He takes her to a remote Police Scotland base where they meet Ethical Hacker, Gayle Crichton. Gayle has been asked by Police Scotland to investigate a series of leaks and wants to work from St Andrews' station. Clare and Al are sworn to secrecy under threat of losing their careers.
Tamsin, a witness in a high profile trial is moved to a Safe House in St Andrews as her current location has been compromised. She is due to testify against her husband and DCI Gibson is determined to keep her safe until she has.
On top of all this a student has been murdered, his body found in a park and Clare has a killer to find while not knowing who she can still trust.
Full of twists and turns I really didn't see what was coming! The Clare Mackay books are firmly on my "Don't miss" list!

First encounter with D I Clare Mackay Marions Todd’s main character, based in Scotland. An interesting storyline with lots of twists and turns causing mistrust with in her team, but all’s well that ends well with Clare having to make a decision which one of her suitors to choose.

Thank you so much to Sophie Eminson from Canelo for the opportunity to read and review a super early copy of Marion Todd’s third book in the Detective Clare Mackay series. Due out in June 2020.

Having read Marion’s first two books in the series - See Them Run and In Plain Sight (I have now given all three books 5 stars) this one went to the top of my pile!

Although it is the third book in the series, each one can easily be read as a stand alone.

Mackay finds herself investigating the murder of a university student and at the same time she is involved in keeping a witness safe who will be giving evidence against her husband in a high profile case.

There appears to be a leak coming from the police as the location of the safe house has been compromised and the witness has to be moved to a new safe house, the location of which also appears to have been leaked. Gayle Crichton, an ethical hacker, has been called in by the police to investigate the leak. She has told Mackay she must not speak to anyone about the investigation, she must trust no one.

Could the leak be her best friend Diane who works in the IT department? Or could it be her boss? Or any of her other colleagues who she regards as friends?

Just as I was with the other two books, I was hooked from the first chapter. Non stop action. Brilliant police procedural with an ending you won’t see coming!

The next episode of the DI Clare Mackay series doesn't disappoint. Well-written with good dialogue and a complex twisty plot, it's a thoroughly good read.

Clare is still at her cozy Daisy Cottage with pet dog Bengy - her love-interest Geoffrey Dark has taken his job in America and as usual she throws herself into her work.
Her DCI Alastair Gibson's personal life has imploded and, following a secretive meeting at a remote Scottish location with DCI Gibson, ethical hacker Gayle Crichton takes over an office in Clare's station in order to investigate leaks from within Police Scotland - leaks which are enabling investigations to be derailed just before arrests are made. Clare is sworn to secrecy and told not to trust anyone - especially her best friend in IT, Diane Wallace. Their cars, their offices, could be bugged, so the only way she can speak to DCI Gibson is via a pair of burner phones.
Whilst dealing with all this secrecy she is responsible for ensuring the wife of an arms-dealing villain is kept safe while awaiting to give evidence at trial, along with investigating the disappearance of two Swiss students who have just too much money in too many bank accounts.
When Al Gibson starts to contact Clare personally on Facebook her personal life becomes complicated, not least when Gayle invites herself to Clare's home for drinks and supper, and 'confidential' conversation.

But - who can she really trust?
We are treated to the realms of leaked information, double-crossing, computer hacking and money laundering; amidst which Clare thanks her lucky stars she hadn't yet had her draughty floorboards fixed when her life is endangered.

Gripping!

Lies to Tell is the 3rd book in the excellent crime thriller series involving DI Claire Mackay .
Asked to meet her boss in secret she is told of a security breach within Police Scotland, introduced to hacker Gayle Crichton who discovered the breach she is sworn to secrecy and must tell no one especially her police colleagues. Add to this the murder of a university student and the the apparently attempted suicide of a friend of the victim who appears terrified of someone and Claire has her work cut out for her, not knowing who she can trust her job becomes extremely difficult.
With so many twists and turns the story romps along at a breathless pace, who can she trust? A brilliant thriller, and an ending I didn’t see coming.
My thanks to net galley and publisher Canelo for the opportunity to review this book honestly

Having read and enjoyed reading the first two books in the DI Clare Mackay series, I am looking forward to another installment.

Firstly I would recommend reading these books in order if you can. They each stand out well on their own merit. However as with most series of books featuring a particular detective, it is enjoyable to see how the author develops the characters.

This is another story which is set in and around St Andrew's, in Scotland. Right from the start I was drawn into this fast moving book. I really liked the way existing police characters have been developed further. The new criminal characters are equally well crafted.

Without risk of spoiling the plot, I can safely say that the novel deals with these topics: Murder, witness protection and computer hacking.

There are more twists, turns and dead ends than one would expect to find in the maze at Hampton Court. Add to that a tense ending and what Marion Todd has created is a very rewarding crime thriller, which leaves enough of an ending to suggest that there will be further books in this series.

Once again I give my thanks to Netgalley and Canelo for an advance copy in exchange for this review.

Lies to Tell by Marion Todd.
Di Clare MacKay has to meet Dci Alastair Gibson in a secure place. There she meets Gayle Crichton. Gayle is a hacker who has discovered there is a security breach coming from inside police Scotland. Clare is sworn to secrecy and she must conceal Gayle's identity from colleagues until the source is found.
But Clare has her hands full keeping a key witness under protection and investigation the murder of a University student.
A friend of the victim is Found preparing to jump of the tay road bridge. He is terrified of someone. But who? Clare realizes she has trusted the wrong person now all she can do is fight to protect those she cares about and see justice done.
Brilliant read. I loved the story. I loved Clare. I was rooting for her. I had no idea who it was. 5*.

The third book in the series and this story maintains the strength of the last two. An intriguing plot and subplot with a good number of twists and turns, with subtle little clues. I loved the twists as the end, I didn't see them coming! Also the cliffhanger for Claire's personal life was a fun ending, I need to know what happens next! There were points the pacing felt a little slow but overall a fantastic read!

Another brilliant book in the D.I. Clare Mackay series. I was gripped from the first page and read the book in a day as I couldn’t put it down. Twists and turns were plentiful and I certainly didn’t guess who the culprit was as it was so carefully written. It was good to find out a bit more information on Clare's colleague Chris who seemed a bit full of himself at first but he is a more likeable character as the series goes on. I can’t wait for the next instalment. I highly recommend this book and series.
