An extract so intriguing I ended up reading the full book :). the ideal range would be middle grade, it is a bit too juvenile for older readers. Love the idea of suffragettes doing jui-jitsu!

This feels like an excellent book, aimed at middle graders, to learn more about the topic in a fun way. I was surprised at how engaged I was in reading it, even though it was an extract. I want to know what happened after the extract ended! Recommended!

I've had a hard time finding historical fiction middle grades but this is just what I wanted. From the extract I've read its about Lettice Pegg who is a child in the early 1900's who's father is a police officer and is attending school and has a new teacher. The exract left a small cliff hanger so I'm very intriged to read the rest of this book.

What an amazing concept for a novel! I was today years old when I learnt about the suffragettes' use of jiu jitsu and it is thanks to this book.
Having read an extract of this book, I am very keen to see where this story takes the reader. It is abundantly clear that Lettice Pegg has a big heart and desperately wants to fit in at school. The writing flows so easily with this book and it is easy to fall into the trap of just one more page.
The story feels reminiscent of Jacqueline Wilson's writing and I can see reader young and old falling in love with this book.

A nicely written extract and I''m particularly interested to discover how the suffragette .theme develops. This intrigued me enough that I will buy the book (even though I'm not in its target demographic).
Three stars because I'm wary of giving any book more when I haven't read it all, but I did enjoy this extract.
