A wonderful read and a must for anyone who loves wartime sagas. I was disappointed to get to the end!

Given that it was only a sample of the book it was still really good. Quite a lot happens in a few chapters. I do want to see what happens as it finishes with a cliff hanger. Will definitely read the full book. Fans of Call The Midwife will enjoy this.

I gave this a 4 stars or 8/10. This is the first in a series of books apparently. This would make a greta reading group read in my opinion.

This was an enjoyable read set around the end of WWII and the ensuing years, telling the story of Kitty Longthorne a young nurse. This is a fictional story set in Park Hospital, which is now known as Trafford General. Park Hospital became the first NHS Hospital and how fitting that I finished reading the story on 5th July, which is the 72nd Birthday of the formation of the NHS.

Kitty Longthorne's family have a chequered history and one that she's keen to try to break away from. None of us are responsible for the actions of members of our family, but as a family unit most of us stick together and will help others in our family, when they find themselves in times of need.

Kitty is no different than the rest of us in that respect. However, her family have problems of their own making and are keen to embroil Kitty in them. Can she manage to help her family to the best of her abilities whilst staying true to herself and bettering herself career wise?

I enjoyed the story and will look forward to seeing what happens to Kitty and her family next. Maggie Campbell has woven a story around a real Hospital and filled it with fictional characters. She has brought to life the period of history set around the beginning of the NHS. As we celebrate 72 years of the NHS on the day that I finished the story, it seems a fitting tribute to what Nurses and Medical Staff went through in those transitional times following the end of WWII and the beginning of the NHS as we know it.

If only this had been the complete novel instead of just a sample. I was really into the story and then....nothing, I will have to buy the book to read the second half. |Saying the I will give this 4 stars, if it had been complete it would have been 5 stars.

A really charming, heart warming read. Not usually my sort of read but I did enjoy it. Perfect for a cosy, fireside, Christmas read.

Nurse Kitty's Secret War was really getting so good, but then, I realized I was not given a complete copy of the book on my Kindle. I kept looking and the page markers were going really fast and I wasn't into the entire story. Then all of the sudden it stopped at a spot that I wanted to know what had happened to her mother. The father had shown up and he was a typical drunken jerk. Poor Kitty just didn't have a chance and life for her was really hard. I appreciate NetGalley giving me a copy, but am so disappointed that it wasn't the entire book. Don't know what happened, but the way it was going, Kitty wasn't going to have very many happy events. in her life in this book. I don't even know what happened to her brother, Ned who was a POW. So, based on the part that I read.....I found it hard to get going, but kept on, then bam....it was finished. It wasn't the best "sample" I have read, but not the worst. Not sure how I would have rated it. Probably 3 stars.

I didn't realise this was just a sample, I was so disappointed when it finished. I'm thoroughly looking forward to finding out how Nurse Kitty's life is going to pan out and whether the dishy doctor is going to come good in the end (I suspect not), when she'll realise that Violet is no friend and whether her poor brother will come home. A great start to the novel with a fascinating setting and interesting, well drawn characters. Can't wait to read the rest.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. How strict were the matrons. I loved reading about Kitty who was a lovely character very loyal and helpful. A beautifully written story which kept me hooked to the end. I am looking forward to hearing more about Kitty.

I haven’t rated it on goodreads as it wouldn’t be honest due to this only being a five chapter sample.

So far, so good. There’s the right level of intrigue and there’s a good mix of likeable and unlikeable characters.

Loved this sample, can't wait to read the entire book because I want to know what's next.

Good story, just to short though book could have gone a long way but felt it was cut short. Will look out for this author, because set near
by and the description of area very good.

Kitty had her work cut out in the wards with nursing sisters who were anything but pleasant to work under. Nursing during wartime was tough and consisted of long hours. This should be a fantastic book to read, so it was really disappointing to only have a snippet and not the whole novel. That said I will watch out for and look forward to the full book.

Book starts on VE Day. Nurse Kitty is in love with James a handsome doctor, but it looks like he has eyes for Kittys best friend. Her mother, is devastated to hear her son is a Prisoner of war in Japan and she and Kitty cant celebrate VE day, due to worry over Ned. Also is Strict Matron with a heart of gold ( Iknew a fair few of them when i nursed lol), also Kittys father appears who as spent last 3 years in prison and is a drunk and no good.

So looking forward to book in full!

The few pages i read i enjoyed but would prefer to review a whole book so that you can get a feel for the story and the characters.

This is a totally new style for me to read, I am not usually into war, but seeing as this was a sampler I thought I would give it a try.

Wow, I am so glad I did, I love Nurse Kitty already. Her poor brother is prisioner of war in Japan. Her father has just come out of prison and trying to locate her mother. Kitty is in love with James who seems to have gone cold on her.

I can not believe this sampler has left us on tenderhooks, I need to finish this book now, do we really have to wait until September.

Totally enjoyed what I read of this book was gutted when I got to the end. I wanted so much to find out what happened to the characters. Love this time nurses and doctors getting together healing those angels from god no matter what nationality everyone was treated the same. Will definitely be purchasing the full book.
