A n enjoyable story about the maligned Ann arriving in Madeira to escape the press and spend time with family, who weren't too sure about her arrival due to the press coverage. Good storyline and likeable characters with great descriptions of the island making me want to go there.... especially in current times!

Ann Thrail has sworn off men, but will a holiday in paradise change her mind…?

1960, Madeira

Kate and Edmund Amroth left London to create a paradise of the Portuguese island of Madeira. They are well known in the local English circles and are proud of what they have achieved.

So when their wayward niece, Ann Thrail, writes to say she is coming to stay, the Amroths are less than enthusiastic…

Ann is leaving behind a scandal in London which has smeared her reputation.

And Kate is worried about the impression that Ann might have on her son, John.

But was there more to Ann disastrous love affair than was reported in the Press? Can she charm the Amroths despite themselves?

Or will she continue to cause chaos wherever she goes…

This was an unbelievingly good story for those who love historical fiction!
I enjoyed reading the story about Ann, strong and independent young woman who was trying to survive and live her life no matter what everybody said about her.
All the characters were so well written and the plot was so interesting that I read this very quickly!
I so loved the atmosphere of the Island and the writer's descriptions were so detailed that you could imagine and relive that time along with the characters.
This was perfect summer read especially for fans of Maeve Binchy, Jojo Moyes and Victoria Hislop.
My rating 5/5

The Wayward Wind by Lewis Cox.

This the story about Ann having got caught in a very difficult situation through no fault of her own that received terribly unkind press relating to her. She decided to take a holiday to allow the situation to die down . We see she arrives at her only family’s home in Madeira. Although she doesn’t get a very warm welcome due to the bad press coverage in London instead of finding out what actually happened to Ann and giving her support.

The story is beautifully written and descriptive you feel like you are actually in Madeira. It is very long drawn out and repetitive in the end. As well as very predictable. A bit disappointed.

I'm sure I read it a long time ago but it was great to read it again as it's an enjoyable and engrossing read.
I liked the great setting, the cast of characters and the plot that flows.

THE WAYWARD WIND by LEWIS COX is a delightful romantic novel set in Madeira during the time that the Union Castle Line ships called in there on their way between South Africa and Britain. The setting is beautiful and the characters well drawn. I am not going to tell you any more as I do not want to spoil things for you. It is an easy and enjoyable read.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Sapere Books. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

Lovely light hearted romance book. Never been to Madeira but it sounded so picturesque. Loved the highs and lows of their lives and secrets actually get released
