This is the second book in the series
I liked the characters especially the police.
The case is very interesting. The pacing does dip in the middle of the book.
A good gripping police procedural

Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

A great read, loved the fact it was in two parts as I didn't expect that. Very gripping and great characters. Lots of tension too.

Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

It took me a while to get into this book, but I am glad I stuck with it. A fabulous spy-thriller. Recommended.

This week sees the publication of Shallow Ground, the first in a new series of books by crime and thriller writer Andy Maslen. Set in and around Salisbury, the book is the second set in the local area to be published in the last few months. Earlier in the autumn, crime writer Louisa de Lange released Nowhere to Be Found, the latest in her DS Kate Munro series located in Southampton and the New Forest.
Creating a sense of place when you’re writing fiction is always important, but especially so when it comes to crime. A strong setting offers the reader mood and atmosphere, with the novel’s location serving as an additional character in the novel. Think of a crime series and more often than not, the location is immediate: Morse and Oxford, Rebus and Edinburgh, Wallander and Ystad. Perhaps the best crime book I’ve read this year has been Attica Locke’s Heaven, My Home, which makes full use of its setting in America’s Deep South, layering in not just the locations but interweaving its history into the storytelling as well.
‘I always get a nice thrill when I spot somewhere in a book I know,’ Louisa told me when we caught up earlier in the week. ‘So I hope the reader will get that enjoyment too.’ She described how Nowhere to Be Found begins at the lake at Ellingham, somewhere she knows well from swimming there in the summer. It’s one of many local places that feature in her books: Southampton Common, Bedford Place and Portswood also play a role.
‘Readers want to feel that this could all happen – not just to them,’ Andy explained to me. ‘So rooting the action in a “somewhere” is key’. Andy describes Salisbury Cathedral as ‘always there as a looming presence’, with Salisbury District Hospital and Bourne Hill Police Station also key scenes.
I asked both writers how they went about bringing their settings to life. ‘I walk my dog round the city and the fields to the south and can honestly say I’ve visited every scene in person,’ Andy said. Louisa also visits the places she writes about: ‘I always get the first draft down, and then I go on a research trip to the locations – taking photos and spending some time gauging the little details, like the sounds and smells.’
It is clear with both authors that they are always on the lookout for a good location. ‘I see body dumps everywhere!’ Andy laughed. ‘I spend far too much time imagining spooky woods, quiet country roads, dead bodies nestling under trees,’ Louisa agreed. That dark imagination and research has reaped its reward, in two atmospheric local crime series well worth investigating.

Lucy Barker had found a body, and now she was missing. It was up to DS Kate Munro to investigate.

My first foray into this author's works, I was quite taken by the premise of the story. KAte was highly determined and was well supported by her colleagues. A fast read with many subplots, the book kept me engrossed with its short, snappy chapters. I was not too fond of attraction hinted at. But the rest of the book was a solid crime thriller.
Overall, a good read

DS Munro is trying to piece her marriage back together as well as investigating a big case. When Lucy discovers a body in the lake she goes swimming in, what has happened to her when her husband reports her missing shortly after.
Lucy is missing presumed dead, but then turns up in a commune near the lake where she discovered the body. Is the commune as innocent as they say it is or are there hidden secrets? And who did kill the body in the lake?
I enjoy the way Louise De Lange writes in a clear and organised way. There are a lot of characters in this book each with intertwining relationships, but they are all easy to follow and understand.

This was a good read. It had plenty of credible twists and turns and really held my attention. The perfect couple really wasn't the perfect couple, and once cracks appeared the what ifs grew and spread. I loved the lead detective. She was competent and credible. The tale wasn't totally unlike others I"ve read but I enjoyed it none the less and it held my attention right up until the very end.

An engrossing, fast paced thriller that throws in twists and turns throughout that really do keep you guessing right up until the end. The characters, and the scene were brought to life wonderfully by the author. I would recommend everyone reads this book!.

Lucy Barker goes swimming the lake one morning and stumbles on a dead body.
Two days later Lucy disappears is it connected to her finding the body.
D.S. Kate Munro is called to work on the case of the drowned man and while looking into this case she stumbles on Lucy's name as the woman who found the body .
Has Lucy disappeared because she found the body of is there something else going on.
Thanks NetGalley

I read this for a blog tour.

This was a clever thriller, tying into conspiracy theories, preppers, intense paranoia and the good old the-husband-probably-did-it of crime writing.

But just when you think you know what happened, another body pops up, and off DS Munro and team go to try and find another link, another killer.

Suitably twisting and with several nicely placed red herrings, this was an enjoyable read.

Wow what a book! This is not what I was expecting. This book gripped me and with plenty of twists, kept me guessing, and what a finale! Can't wait for the next Kate Munro book.

DS Kate Munro is back in Nowhere to be Found, the latest book from Louisa de Lange, and her life is still as complicated as ever, both personal and professionally.

The opening scene alone was simply chilling and would surely put you off swimming in open water when a young woman Lucy brushes against a dead body that is floating in the lake. But as we later discover Lucy has her own issues and not long after she is reported as a missing person by her husband who comes under suspicion for her disappearance. Did he do it or is there more to Lucy's disappearance than first meets the eye?

When a connection is made between the murder and missing person cases, the investigations are combined which brings Kate into contact with someone from her past.

Kate is a complex and flawed character, one that will have you shaking your head at some of her reckless actions especially where her personal relationships are concerned, but yet at the same time there's no denying how dedicated she was to her job and getting their man where the crimes were concerned.

Lucy was another character that really intrigued me, she seemed really fragile which had a lot to do with her upbringing, but it was her paranoia which is triggered further following her encounter in the lake that overtook all rational thoughts and prompted her rash decisions.

With regards to their investigation, nothing was at it seemed and every path seemed to lead to a dead end before another clue crops up taking them in a completely different and unexpected direction and into contact with some very unhinged individuals. It's hard to say much more without giving away any spoilers but it's fair to say that the author took us on a tense ride with the characters and there was one particular scene towards the end that had me literally worried about the fate of someone who had put himself into a compromising position to get the answers the team needed for the case.

I'm enjoying seeing this series and Kate develop so am ever hopeful that there will be more to come in the future.

Although this is the second DS Kate Munro novel by Louisa de Lange, it is the first novel that I have read. I am unsure as to whether they were written to be stand-alone novels, however this novel worked really well as a stand-alone and I did not feel that I was missing anything by not reading the first novel.

I was gripped from the start of this novel. There was such a strong start with the dead body and then the missing person’s case that it made this novel very hard to put down. The pace of this novel remained fairly high and even when there were no new leads in the case, I was never bored.

There are gradual reveals throughout this novel and yet as parts are solved there was still so much in the novel that I still didn’t know. I liked this because it meant that there was still room for me to be shocked by the ending. It definitely wasn’t the ending I thought it would be.

I loved Kate Munro as the lead detective from the beginning. She was such a relatable character and I enjoyed that you saw her life outside of just her job. All of the characters within the novel that were supposed to be likeable were portrayed well, and as a reader I did really like them. I enjoyed the inclusion of relationships between the characters and I think it added depth to the novel that is sometimes forgotten in crime thrillers. The relationships between the characters also helped with the pace of the novel as I was always rooting for them.

I would definitely recommend this novel to those that love detective mystery thrillers. It almost reminded me of the Peter James Roy Grace series and I can’t wait to read more of Kate Munro. A great novel with amazing pace and some brilliant twists.

DS Kate Munro #2

Lucy is missing. Her husband, Scott does not know where she could be. But things are not adding up. It seems Lucy might have had a good reason to disappear. DS Kate Munro is called in to investigate. Scott becomes the prime suspect in Lucy's disappearance. Kate is also investigating the recent murder of a man found floating in a lake. Kate learns that it was Lucy who found the body.

The story is multilayered. The pace is fast with plenty of twists. There were some parts that were predictable and other parts I didn't see coming. The plotline is believable. The characters are likeable and unlikable. It's told from multiple points if view. This is a well written and gripping page turner. This is the second book in this series.

I would like to thank NetGalley, Orion Publishing Group and the author Louisa de Lange for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book gripped me and drew me in right from the start. I wanted to know more and more as the book went on. There were twists ans turns that I didn't see coming. Some shocking some not so much.
