Our story follows Parisien artiste Billie, who is set on a voyage of discovery after the death of her mother. She receives a call that her mother has drowned in a river near her nursing home and is drawn back to where she grew up in order to understand what happened to her mother, who she hadn’t seen for many years. This new tragedy brings to mind another drowning that happened twenty years ago. Billie’s friend Lila drowned at the age of 16, but Billie is unsure of what really happened and why she feels such guilt about her death. Billie is a well written character and I enjoyed her company but found it hard to summon up the urgency needed for a mystery to really capture you. It captured a feeling and a Place very well, but didn’t grip me to the end,
