Absolutely love the author and always find the books gripping. This is no exception. I read it in one evening and couldn't put it down. Great plot and a good take on the missing child story.

Gone in Seconds by Ed James is the second book in the brilliant Detective Max Carter series This was another excellent book, I enjoyed it, especially as it had clever twists and turns, thorough-out with lots of action, suspense. The author told everything in great detail. I liked the main character Detective Max Carter and he worked well within the story.

Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I found this book a little slow to start, but I am glad I stuck with it as it really hotted up with plenty of twists and turns.

Recommended.

Fabulous! Fascinating! Brilliant read! I loved it. The storyline is excellent and the characters are easily visualised. It had me captivated from the beginning. I'm looking forward to reading more of this series.

A fast paced enjoyable thriller from a relatively new to me author. I liked the split perspective of the kidnapper versus FBI agent. Got a bit slow mid book (a common issue at the moment) but the pace picked up towards the end. Certainly a series to watch.

Unfortunately I was so lost with this read at 1st.
It should be marked as book 2

Murder after mafia and commerce
Book 2 in the max Carter series

Found this to be a bit of a struggle to get into. I have since found out that its a follow on from the first in the series. That really does explain why I found it a little confusing with a lot going on sometimes. As its a fast paced powerful novel, if you have read the first one then it would, no doubt, all flow and read a lot easier. Great characters and great storyline.

Still well worth a read as its a gripping read, but try to read the one before first!

Thank you Bookouture and Netgalley.

Fast paced, great twists and turns, and a real thriller. Grabbed me from the first page and didn't let go!
I only wish I'd have read the first book in the series first (I didn't realise it was a series when I started reading) then it may have made more sense of some parts. Still great though!

GONE IN SECONDS picks up where TELL ME LIES left off. FBI Agent Max Carter investigates child abduction cases. He has a reputation for working all hours to find every missing child on his watch—after all, he was once one himself.

A 6-week old baby has been taken from his home while the nanny is on duty. The baby belongs to a very well known .. and wealthy ... business and his wife. As Carter investigate, he finds that the family has secrets ... but are those secrets about their child ..or something else.

The father .. and his business partner as well as his brother.. are primary suspects. But then a young woman is sighted boarding a bus out of town with an infant child. The nanny? The mother? A co-conspirator?

BOOK BLURB: As Carter begins a cat-and-mouse game with the kidnapper, he receives some startling news from home, which stops him in his tracks. He must decide whether to risk everything to find the missing child or save his own family.

Gone in Seconds is the 2nd book in the Special Agent Max Carter series by best-selling author, Ed James. After reading Book 1, I was expecting a well written crime thriller with lots of action and plenty of twists and turns to keep my eyes riveted to the story. I was not disappointed. I highly recommend reading these books in order.

Many thanks to the author / Bookouture / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

# Gone In Seconds #Netgalley
A brilliant and awesome start to a new series. Child missing, more lies and double dealings going on Mat Carter is in charge of finding the child. He knows that the parents are lying about something, not the child but there are more twist and turns corruption in this book you will be reading into the late night, early morning depending on the time you start it. I think you will find it hard to put the book down until it’s finished. It’s a fast paced book. Grips you from the beginning and gets its claws well and truly into you that I could not put it down. Pure brilliance. Very much recommend you read this. Can’t wait for the next one. Fantastic bloody addictive fantastic

Gone in Seconds is fast-paced from the get-go. The plot twists and turns especially at the end. Characters are well-differentiated with believable intent. Lots of action, disappointments, near misses, and sub-plots go on throughout. Readers will be surprised too. Recommended for readers of contemporary mysteries that do not chase killers though there are one or two deaths in the heart-rending story.

A missing baby. The FBI missing persons group are there to assist. But when the parents see the photo of the woman who took him they claim not to know her.
But this story has many twists to come. Russians , assassins, money laundering, baby farming.
Just when I thought I knew the story something else came up to change my mind.
Right to the very end this story twisted around!

I really wish that I had read the first book in the Max Carter series (this book is #2) because I kept thinking that I was missing information about Max’s strengths and weaknesses, although I don’t know that for sure since I didn’t read the first one. I thought that this book definitely had a slow start, built up tension in the middle and then had a surprising conclusion. The newborn that is kidnapped from the wealthy Bartlett family is a pawn in the underhanded and illegal activities of Landon Bartlett and his brother Chase. None of the characters except for Max seemed to be very likable to me. I also had difficulty figuring out the genre of this book: part domestic drama, part police procedural, part suspense and part thriller (at the ending). What it was not was a mystery because there were too few clues given for me to figure out whodunit. I knew who was involved, but I didn’t know why and how and the the fiend at the middle of the kidnapping. There were multiple points of view and a very complex plot that seemed to go in circles sometimes and lost me completely at others. There was a lot happening at all times and way too many characters for me to keep track of. That being said, those who enjoy a mixed genre book with a protagonist who is focused and determined will enjoy this one. I plan on trying another Max Carter book in the future to check out if I really enjoy the series or not.

GONE IN SECONDS is the second police procedural novel in the Detective Max Carter Series, featuring Special Agent Max Carter, by bestselling author ED James. Having just finished the first book in the series, Tell Me Lies, I was looking forward to following Detective Max Carter on his cases.

The books in the Detective Max Carter series include:
Tell Me Lies (Book 1)
Gone in Seconds (Book2)

FBI special agent Max Carter is in charge of the FBI Child Abduction Rapid Deployment Team based out of the FBI Seattle Field Office, and investigates child abduction cases. He understands the stress and anguish of being abducted, because Max himself was abducted as a child.

A baby missing. A family in distress!

Landon and Jennifer Bartlett have everything: money, influence and a picture-perfect family. Landon sold the business last year, and now works for his family’s foundation. His late father was a senator, and Landon’s brother, Chase is on the board too, but on a part-time basis.

Jennifer had been at a dinner hosted by her husband’s foundation, but left early to check on her six-week old son, Ky…but found someone had broken into their mansion…and now her son was missing. He was taken right out of his cot!

When FBI Agent Max Carter visits the Bartletts’ home, he’s immediately suspicious of Landon Bartlett and his brother Chase.

As Carter investigates further into the lives of the brothers, he finds a web of uncertain business deals and lies. And it’s clear that Landon was hiding something from them…also Chase, but Chase was easier to crack.

Soon Carter is involved in a cat-and-mouse game with the kidnapper, he receives some startling news from home, which stops him in his tracks. And when a young woman is spotted boarding a bus out of town with a baby fitting Ky’s description, he must decide whether to risk everything to find the missing child or save his own family.

This is a fast-paced action crime thriller involving organized crime, Russian Mafia, hit men and money laundering, is sure to please from bestselling author Ed James.

Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and Net Galley for my digital copy.

I really enjoyed this book and will give it a huge thumbs up. With a great story line and excellent main characters - I would highly recommend this book.

I had trouble getting into this book, and didn't really care about the characters. I hadn't realized it was part of a series so perhaps it would have come together better had I read the previous book. The story is about a newborn baby snatched from the home of a power couple- the reader gets some indication of what the couple is like, as well as the husband's brother, the detective, and the kidnapper.

I liked that it took place in Seattle as I am familiar with the city, but even that didn't help me feel connected. There is an organized crime aspect, which did not come out in the excerpt and is not my cup of tea. None of the characters were likable and I had a hard time believing that actual people would act in some of the ways that they did.

Overall, this was not the book for me- I was expecting more of a domestic suspense type book but that isn't really what this was. It was more like a police procedural, though didn't exactly fit into that genre either. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book in the Max Carter series and not having read the first in really spoiled it for me as half of the storyline in a continuation of the first book. I did enjoy the book but felt in parts It got a little far fetched, especially the ending which also seemed rushed. I would probably have enjoyed it more if I’d read the first in the series as that introduced the main character and why he acted the way he did in the second book
Thank you to NetGalley and For the ARC

Excellently written police procedural that had me hooked even though it started slow.

I liked that because it built to a frantic pace and I couldn’t stop turning the pages.

Read if you enjoy crime thrillers, I can’t wait for the next one as the ending was brilliant!
