What Should Aging Be?

In this book, the author looks at her own concerns about aging as well as what she has experienced of it with her parents, all in the context of Buddhism. It is intensely personal as the author tries to make sense of it all, wanting to go forth blazing a fresh trail and approach. If you have parents who are elderly or are approaching retirement age yourself, you might find this a fascinating perspective on growing older.

I had hoped this book to bring to light some new thoughts on ageing, one of the most feared parts, besides death, of getting old. Blanket acceptance of the process is not part of my personal agenda. I wish more detail had been added to the immobility, dementia, and dependant nature of fragile bones.

I thought this was interesting. Gave me a new perspective on what it means to grow older and how to make the most of later years.

I enjoyed this book and am able to transfer some of the wisdom into my own life. I am 64 years old and just beginning to ponder all of this. I especially appreciated the chapter on Identity.

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for an advanced reading copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
