I’ve read many of Annie Groves books and this one did not disappoint. It followed the lives of district nurses during the war in a poor area in London. It touched on the difficulties of being poor and of large families that many couldn’t afford but also couldn’t avoid and the drastic measures some women would take to avoid another baby.
The characters were believable and it was a book that I wanted to pick up and read more.

This story is set during the Second World War, an era I enjoy reading about. However, I did find the whole story a bit tame and did not particularly enjoy it.

Another very enjoyable story about the District Nurses an their lives at a difficult time during the deprivation of WWII.. definitely readable and recommended to those readers who enjoy reading this type of book.

I presume that there is going to be another book to round off the series as it left me with a few unanswered questions. I did however enjoy the book in its entirety as I have the other books by this author

I was given a copy of A gift for the District Nurses by Annie Groves by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I have read several of Annie's books previously and have read the other books in this series. Ruby and Lily join other district nurses helping families. Ruby and Lily have a lot to read. A well written novel and likeable characters as always from Annie.

I didn’t realise this book was part of a series but it can easily be read as a standalone.

Lily and Ruby meet when they both arrive on the same day at the Nursing Home to start their jobs as District Nurses. Two totally different characters, Ruby is very self- conscious while Lily appears to be anything but. A fantastic book.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced read copy of this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

Heartwarming and nostalgic fiction from the best selling author of The District Nurses of Victory Walk.
It’s 1943 and the district nurses have two new recruits… As the country ramps up for D-Day, the new nurses getting to know their patients on their patch in London’s East End.

These books have a "Call the midwife" feel to them. I really enjoyed this new addition to the district nurses series. It is great reading more about the characters I have come to love and how their lives are progressing and of course the new nurses who joined the staff in this book. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.

I loved this book. It’s the first one I’ve read written by Annie Groves but it certainly won’t be the last. The characters are all believable, it was nice to see how they all evolved.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for letting me read this book in exchange for a review, I will put this review on Amazon too.

A wartime story of district nurses during the blitz in London. We focus mainly on two new nurses of differing characters, how they fit in,how they react and how they grow. A good read.

A warm story about the unsung heroes, the district nurses who looked after the normal people under extraordinary conditions in blitz torn London. It's a gentle take, but also highlights the extreme poverty and choices people had to make before the NHS, and the tragedies of women trying to end their own pregnancies without medical care. The usual stories talk of how everyone looked after each other, and for the most part this story does too, but it does not turn a blind eye to the black market that flourished in these days of restrictions. In the end, friendship and hope win the day. An enjoyable read

The type of book I like - learning about the war years ( my parents era ) through a novel. Nursing is of particular interest as that wasn’t career. Well written addressing taboo subjects and very enjoyable

This was the first book in this series that I have read and I'm now keen to read the rest of the books. I have always enjoyed Annie Groves books and I love medical stories set around the war years.
Lily and Ruby arrive at the nursing home on the same day to start work as District Nurses. Ruby is very self conscious and needs to gain in confidence, whereas Lily appears to be overly confident in herself.
I loved the friendships between the nurses and their romances. Rationing and the black market goods feature and add to the general atmosphere.
Great family life in the East End, along with the camaraderie with the market stall holders and essential war duties. I was totally lost in the story and sad to come to the end- but I will now go back and read the rest in the series and look out for the next one.

This is a fascinating story about a group of District Nurses in London during the Second world war. Very true to life with excellent characters and a compelling storyline.

The district nurses of Victory Walk are back with two new nurses joining the team. Lily and Ruby are the new recruits who have to find their way around the district, and in doing so discover strength that they didnt know they possessed. The war is continuing and life on the Home Front isn't easy, the black market is rife and their are crooks all around. This is a good saga, lots of characters that you really grow to care for involved in situations that really portray life on the Home Front. A great read!

Outstanding, Annie will be smiling down. Loved the book and soon felt reacquainted with all the characters. Could see where the storyline was going although there were some twists and turns. Very much look forward to the next in the series and hope it brings continued happiness for the characters.
