I’m sorry to say this book did not catch my attention at all. I found it boring and the characters quite dull as well. |
This was an enjoyable novel that tells exactly how lies can affect your life ultimately. This was my first book from this author but will be checking into others. I received a copy of this from Netgalley in exchange for fair and honest review. |

This book was okay. I struggled a bit to connect with the protagonist, Alys. I did like the secondary character Nancy. and how she embraces Alys from the first time they meet. A story of past love returning into her life, leading to surprising reveals that I found to be interesting. |
Alys' first marriage ended in divorce after her husband divorced her after suffering a terrible accident. She remarried but her husband is very controlling. Her daughter is ready to move onto new challenges and highlights the problems in their lives. I was totally drawn into the book and couldn't wait to read more. I loved the way that all elements blended together. It deals with heartbreak, romance, family and new starts. The cover is very striking and make it stand out, ready to be picked up and enjoyed. I always love Emma Davies books and this one was a great read. |
The Wife’s Choice by Emma Davies is an unputdownable family drama that is both heartbreaking and yet uplifting at the same time. Family and life choices are the roots of this fantastic story and in ways there are parts where almost anyone who reads it can relate in some aspect. Twenty Five years ago, Alys’ first love was involved in a horrific accident which eventually led to their divorce. Now, Alys is married again to her husband, Hugh, and they have a daughter, recently graduated and about to start her first job. Alys still has not forgotten about the life she had in the past or the love she had and still has for her first husband. But, there are still secrets in Alys’ life. Secrets that are about to be revealed. Can Alys find the happiness she so desperately seeks? I really loved the premise of this book and I kind of went in blindly not really knowing what to expect, but the story drew me in immediately. This is not a “hold you on the edge of your seat kind of read,” but the build up is nice and steady and this is where we learn about Aly’s life and the decisions she has made and what leads up to secrets being revealed. I couldn;t help but relate a little bit to Alys as we are not too far off in age. Thinking about the past and things we could have done differently I think about often. I think Alys finally realizes how her decisions have shaped her life and with her marriage to Hugh. Hugh is definitely not an easy character to read about and quite frankly I hated him throughout most of the book, but eventually he is one of the reasons Alys finally comes into her own. If you enjoy stories centered around family, relationships, feeling comfortable in your own skin, and having hopes and dreams then you definitely do not want to miss out on The Wife’s Choice. |

Circumstances have conspired to place Alys in a place and time where she feels her life is just marking time until she dies. She has no job, no children at home and a husband whose actions leave no doubt as to who he feels is important. The only bright spot in her life is her daughter Esme, who has begun a new job in a new, exciting restaurant where Esme hopes to become a master chef some day. As Alys watches Esme's life take off, hers seems to be shrinking. With nothing better to do, she starts expanding her circle of acquaintances and designs clothing on a part time basis. These connections will bring Alys full circle to her younger self and force her to make decisions that could alter her future for the good. |
This was a great thriller read from a new author for me. Interesting characters, who were well written and whom I got very interested in from the bat. It is also nice to read about a woman in her 40's instead of just reading about 20 somethings all of the time. I will definitely look forward to more by Emma Davies in the future. |
This book was such a treat. I felt like each page hit me with a new set of emotions. I kind of related to Alys in the sense of looking back on my life and wondering “what am I doing here?” So as a whole as a character I could really empathize with her in some aspects. Her adult life she felt like she was living this huge lie – which was told to accommodate her husband. But when a man from her past reappears in her life, she is forced to confront these issues head on. I know that she is a grown woman – but it kind of felt like we got to watch her grow up…maybe a better term would be blossom. I don’t want to say too much to spoil it, so if you love page turning family dramas then this would be a great book for you! |
After her husband car accident Alys find herself locked into a life which she would have never chosen. But a glimpse of her past life push her to finally fight for her true self. Alys’ Story is so empowering and inspiring. So many times in life we just set for what’s easier or for what other people makes us believe is right for us, but is it really what we want? This book makes you question your own persona while Alys herself finds her way through her true self, and set her mind on what really makes her happy! And who doesn’t love whirlwind romance? |
Really enjoyed this book, had a great storyline with some great charecters you could invest in, kept me engaged until the end |

A tale of rediscovery and second chances Life has gt a bit samey and lost its spark. Can Alys get it back without hurting those she loves? A fantastic story about family, love ,lies and hope. I'm a little rusty on reviewing lately, but I'm going to give this my best shot because honestly this book deserves it. I did not expect to enjoy this book as much as I did. About a quarter of the way through, The Wife's Choice started to pick up and the vignette-style feel brought some new things to light. The main character, Alys, brings light to an otherwise unknown (at least, by me) thought process of a middle-aged wife and mother who put her dreams on the back-burner to take care of her daughter, whom she obviously adores very much. I think that a lot of the conversations in this novel sneak up on the reader in the best way. Many segues lead to deep, thought provoking conversations and Alys’ internal monologues sometimes steal the show. I thoroughly enjoyed these characters and look forward to hearing others' thoughts! |
What can I say about this book? It tells so many stories impacting you as a human and as a woman. This book is indeed the women fiction you have been looking for your whole life. A family drama and a heartbreaking past that brings together a story that keeps you gripping till the last word of the last page. The character of Alys unknowingly tells us the story of so many women and young girls who had to shed themselves totally to save themselves. The author beautifully captures the prejudices and the judgemental society without writing about it in BIG LARGE WORDS AND POINTING FINGERS THAT LOOK THIS IS WHAT IS WRONG IN OUR SOCIETY. EVERY WOMAN'S STORY IS LINKED to how the society thinks or the society functions but Emma Davies uses beautiful metaphors which are relatable in our daily lives. I am thankful to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC. |
