I can't say it enough, I love the Little People, Big Dreams series. Growing up listening to Aretha Franklin's music, added to my interest in this story. These short, non-fiction books include a short story of how these amazing people began life and pursued their dreams. There is a child friendly biography of this remarkable woman who was born a preacher's daughter, singing in the church choir, traveling with her father's gospel group all the way to her induction as the first female in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I loved the illustrations in this book, they were not as quirky as some of the others, but quite realistic, yet again, child friendly. There is a short biography, photographs and timeline at the end of the book to add to what the reader learns in the story and resources to check out to find out more. As always, I recommend this series to libraries, both public and school.

An amazing book that does a great job at educating young readers about such an amazing and talented woman like aretha franklin. I have been thoroughly enjoying reading all of the books in this series and this book did not disappoint. I think that the information about her that was included was enough to give a general outline of her, which is understandable in such a small book. Aretha franklins life was such a rich existance and to cut it down to this short book so well, without compromising any of the information, is great.

As always, the Little People Big Dreams series delivers a heartwarming and inspirational tale which is beautifully illustrated and captivating. I have yet to read my son a book from this series that he has not enjoyed. Covering such a diverse range of topics in such an accessible way, I can and do recommend these books to anyone with young children!

Come to think of it all her books. They are so adorable, colourful with lovely illustrations throughout and great for small children to learn about some of the wonderful people that were and are a part of our lives and did great things they did.

The Little People, Big Dreams series published by Quarto Kids is the most beautiful set of illustrated books I think I’ve ever seen. This new addition to the series, about the life and achievements of soul goddess Aretha Franklin is absolutely brilliant!!

Before reading it I’ll admit to knowing very little about her life, although I can blast out a mean R-E-S-P-E-C-T on karaoke 😏🎤 I found her story fascinating and completely inspirational, and this is perfectly complemented by the accessible language and breathtaking artwork. Some of the spreads I would genuinely have framed on my wall!

For anyone looking to diversify their children’s bookshelves this is an absolute must-buy, as it opens up conversations about racism, black history and culture. It’s also a great one to encourage any budding musicians to follow their dreams.

I will say that I think I love this one more than Wee Reader does but I think it will be one we keep coming back to and he may get more out of as he gets a little older.

I adore this series, they are inspiring, detailed but explain so well to help a younger audience learn about these wonderful people, they have beautiful illustrations to go with them. This one on legend Aretha Franklin was wonderful it shows her life growing up singing in her choir to become the legendary R&B singer she became. It also explores her friendship with another inspiring person in Martin Luther King JR, which is great as you can then read the Little People Big Dream Book on him too. I love this series and love how inspiring they are for everyone of all ages.

Thank you so much to Netgalley and Frances Lincoln Childrens for the E-arc copy to read and review.

This is the first 'Little People, Big Dreams' book I've had the delight of reading, and what a lovely, informative and insightful book it is. I am an expectant Mum and am always on the lookout for children's books that will educate and inspire my child, especially books focused on fantastic and influential black people, allowing my child to see a face like theirs in both the character and illustrations. In addition, whilst this is a book for children, as a fan of Aretha Franklin, I really enjoyed learning new information about her and her background.
I very much look forward to reading more 'Little People, Big Dreams' books in the future.

I am looking to expand my reading area at school with a few more fiction books so when I spotted this on Netgalley I couldn't wait to give it a try. A fascinating lady who has lived a remarkable life. The illustrations are simply beautiful and the story is simple enough for little children.

I dont think there is any book from this series I don't like and this is no exception! The illustrations are stunning and who would have thought I could (as a 29 year old) get a really rounded picture of someones life in just 32 pages!

I regularly buy the Little People, Big Dreams books for my children (6 and 4 years old) and we are always excited when new titles are added. We loved this new addition about Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul. She definitely deserves her place in this series of books and I would recommend owning the Martin Luther King, Jr title alongside this one. As usual, the story provoked questions and discussions with my children which is brilliant and the illustrations are bright, vibrant and eye-catching. This would be a stunning addition to any child’s bookshelf.

Another great addition to the Little People Big Dreams series chronicling the life of Aretha Franklin.

This concise illustrated biography chronicles the life of the daughter of a minister who rose from gospel choir singer to inductee in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

As always with this series, Aretha's life is detailed in clear pictures with child friendly language, perfect as a first introduction to the Queen of Soul. The book ends as always with suggestions for further reading if the story has captured your imagination.

This would be a great addition to a music lesson with young children to provide an introduction to a study of Franklin.

I received an eARC of this book from the publishers via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Another fantastic book from the Little People, Big Dreams collection. We found this a really interesting insight into Aretha’s life and is a great way to show my daughter about an amazing, talented lady. It is age appropriate, using simple language and beautiful illustrations to tell the story. I liked the fact there was extra information and a timeline in the back of the book. We followed up our reading with playing Respect very loudly and danced around the room and we absolutely recommend you do the same

Another delightful book in this series. The images are so wonderful - bright and full of emotion. The story stays focused mainly on her achievements but mentions a few important historical moments and is a good introduction to Aretha. I didn't know that Otis Redding wrote Respect. The section at the back is a bit more detailed about some of up ups and downs of her life. Thanks for the copy in exchange for an honest review.

Another great addition to the Little People, BIG DREAMS collection.

This is a concise biography of Aretha Franklin, the first woman to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

These biographies are age appropriate; inspiring and interesting, but not overwhelming. They have bright, beautiful illustrations, striking covers, and look great on a shelf together.

Thank you to the publisher and #NetGalley for an advanced copy.

The My First Little People, Big Dreams series provides informative and inspirational biographies about people who left a mark on this earth, no matter what difficulties they have encountered.
These stories are very short, but thats because theyre books for children, so its totally understandable.
I think they are a very smart and wonderful way to introduce little children to such important figures.
This one here is about the great Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul. I enjoyed reading about her story a lot. She was an incredible singer, with a unique, powerful and moving voice. And she was also a force of nature. I'm so glad children are able to read about her and her achievements.
