Review
I would give this book 4/5
I read it in one sitting. From the first chapter the reader is glued to their seat. The crime families are not gentle in their search for Lauren and their methods are ruthless. The author does a fabulous job depicting the deaths of those the betray the Sykes family (warning its pretty gory) and the tension and threats are palpable across the page. As a reader I found myself holding my breath..
Ai would highly recommend this book to family and friends who enjoy suspense and crime stories.

Lauren Sykes, seventeen-year-old daughter of Kyle Sykes, a man everyone feared, and the police could never pin down, had terror in her heart. She needed to flee, to get away from her father as she knew he would kill her without a qualm. After all, she knew he’d killed her mother. Lauren wouldn’t stay one step ahead of her father for long…

When her father’s men became too close, once again she ran. But this time she had a phone number to call – only in the case of an emergency, and it was definitely that. The woman who answered the phone was hushed but confident – she’d retrieve Lauren in a couple of hours. She just had to stay safe in the meantime. But could Lauren trust this woman? She had to trust someone, but she also knew her father had local cops on his payroll.

Meanwhile DI Toby Clarke was working the police department end. The speed everything was moving, he had trouble keeping up, but uniting forces with Petra Morrow kept the adrenalin pumping. The bodies were piling up, Kyle Sykes’ alibis were rock solid as were Gus Perrin’s. Would they be able to keep Lauren safe and trip her father up? Clarke didn’t like their chances…

What an absolute corker of a read! Safe is the first in a new series – Merrow & Clarke – by Jane A. Adams and it took off from the first page and kept going until the last! Fast paced, plenty of twists, bodies and intimidated people everywhere; my heart was in my throat most of the journey! I can’t wait for the next addition to the series. Highly recommended.

With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.

Lauren Sykes and Harry Prentice are on the run from Lauren’s father Kyle and Gus Perrin who are heads of Organised Criminal Gangs. Drawn into the web of destruction are DI Toby Clarke and DS Petra Merrow. The story is told from several perspectives which works well.

First of all, I like the premise and plot which has a sort of ‘Line of Duty’ vibe to it. It starts of a bit plodding of pace but this picks up after a bit. There is tension, danger and fear in parts and some exciting and grittily shocking events that unfold. I like how it’s not just Lauren and Harry that have to stay safe from the avenging networks but other characters too and that adds an extra dimension. You really root for Lauren who is clever and wise beyond her seventeen years probably due to the need to be ultra vigilant because of her father’s criminal thuggery. She needs to utilise every ounce of her brave resourcefulness to escape the rapidly encroaching danger. Harry is more like a father to her than her biological one and their relationship is heartwarming. The author has created good characters in Clarke and Merrow and I look forward to reading what happens to them in the next instalment.

Overall this is a twisty thriller which keeps you guessing throughout with a good, realistic ending.

Thanks to NetGalley and Joffre Books for the copy.

Summary
Her whole life, all Lauren Sykes wanted to be is safe.
Her brutal father demands Lauren marry vicious criminal Charlie Perrin. But when Charlie tries to force himself on her, she kills him. Now she’s on the run knowing her father will murder her, just like he murdered her mother. Seventeen-year-old Lauren has made a very dangerous enemy – her own father.

WOW! What a brilliant book this was!
I loved it.
I however did not like Laurens father.... for obvious reason ;-)
I was actually scared for her at some points. wondering if she was going to be able to survive her fathers wrath of fury!

This was a very great book.
From the beginning to the middle to the end!
I enjoyed every minute of it.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a fast paced read, full of thrill!

Thank You NetGalley & Jane Adams for this amazing complimentary ARC!

All Lauren Sykes wants is to be safe. At seventeen, she's aware that her father .. a well known crime lord ... murdered her mother. He's tried to force her into a marriage with a vicious criminal in order to combine their families. Lauren had other ideas and her future "husband' is now on the floor ... shot and killed with his own gun. It was self defense...but Lauren knows her father will have her killed.

Lauren runs to the only person she knows who can help her ... a retired member of her father's' organization. The two of them hit the road and try to make plans on how to disappear before they are found. But they're too late ....

With two criminal families after one teenager, the action is non-stop. The characters are skillfully drawn .... from the scared teen, to the undercover cop who may or may not be corrupt ... to her vindictive father ... There are twists and turns making it hard to know who to trust .. who's lying and who's telling the truth. The plot is tightly woven with a highly unexpected ending.

Many thanks to the author / Joffe Books / Books n All Book Promotions / Netgalley for the digital copy of this riveting crime fiction. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Prentice and Sykes two major crime families, a son and daughter and bent policemen, what more could you ask for in a novel? Fascinating tale of the two crime families trying to solve their own problems enter Merrow and Clarke the former an undercover operative and the investigating officer Clarke. A great read, book one in this series and hopefully more to follow.

Thank you NetGalley and Joffe Books for the eARC of the book for free. This review is my honest opinion and strictly voluntary.

Safe is a fast-paced crime thriller that got my attention right away and kept it peaked until the very end.

A seventeen year old daughter of a mob boss is on the run for killing the man her father had promised her to in marriage. Ironically, he is the son of a another mobster. Seeking refuge and help after the murder she turns to a former employer of her father; basically another former mobster. Which I thought was a different twist.

Thus the premise of the story chronicles their fleeing for safety and the dilemmas they encounter along the way while simultaneously back at home the police are trying to investigate the mobster’s supposed “accidental death”.
Each chapter continues building with several “shocking twists” along the way.

I definitely enjoyed this book and would recommend it to others that enjoy crime thrillers. My only critique is there are a few grammatical errors that I sure proofing and publishing will resolve.

Hope to see more from this author in the future.

Shocking, fast paced and engaging plot that leaves you feeling chilled if it is based on any sort of fact..

The main characters were believable and interesting, the villains less so, but I've led a sheltered life when it comes to organised crime. I had to keep reminding myself that it was set in the UK as this is the sort of storyline that you expect to take place in somewhere more like New York.

If you like a thriller you'll like Safe. I'll be looking out for other books by Jane Adams so my thanks to Netgalley for introducing me to her work.

I decided to discontinue reading this book halfway through. None of the characters or the storyline itself manage to keep me going. The plot building is too slow and too cliché. The characters are not likeable at all. I really wanted to finish this book but it has caused me stuck in a reading slump.

Safe was a good read and kept your interest. Some of the Organized Crime Group stuff got a bit old/over the top, but the main characters were interesting. Some questions left unanswered, but perhaps will be addressed in a sequel. I would read other books by this author.

A well written and cleverly plotted read with a fast paced storyline, unique viewpoint and interesting characters.
Potentially the start of a rather brilliant new series.

A quick and engaging read with good story pacing - I could see it as the basis for an episodic show on Netflix. This crime thriller was plot-focused and action-packed. While the characters were easily classified as either a "good guy" or a "bad guy", these distinctions became blurred when the narrative turned to focus on specific circumstances surrounding these actors.

A fun and fast summer read.

A fast-paced crime thriller, Safe dives straight into the action from page 1 and doesn’t stop until the end. It was hard to put this book down, a real page-turner!

I really enjoyed this book and being taken along for the ride as secrets are revealed and pieces of the puzzle come together.

The only downside is that I felt the ending was anticlimactic after the intense build up of action throughout the rest of the book.

I give Safe 3 stars, and would recommend this book for fans of crime thrillers. I look forward to reading more books by this author.
