This story follows twins.
The book is well written I did like the main plot but I didn’t like any of the characters
There are too many twists and it became confusing and far fetched

This was a good read! But I did find myself confused at times! It was hard to determine what time frame it was because it did go back and forth. It was also hard to distinguish which twin was being talked about because the names were so similar! It was twisty and very dark! I would recommend!

This was one utterly confusing read! It would have been much better if you had an indication who was narrating certain chapters, as it did take me a few moments to catch up - this made the reading flow choppy and it was rather annoying. The story is told in different timelines by Sarah and Susan, which like I said it was hard to narrow down who was narrating sometimes, we are taken back into the girls past and their present and we know one twin is evil but what one? Is it Sarah or Susan?  Susan comes back into Sarah's life after thirty years apart - why has she turned up on her doorstep after so long, and what is her reasons?

This is dark twist thriller, confusing at times, but still that ending had me questioning - just who really was the twin behind bars?

It's not the most original premise but it's well delivered. The time jumps are done well and some very difficult issues were handled great. I did see some of the twists coming bout not all.

I didn’t think the plot in this was particularly unique but I did enjoy the premise and it was very well written, I did guess a lot of what was coming but still found it a good read

This wasn’t badly written but I spent almost all of it skimming- I kept thinking I might have read it before- everything just felt incredibly familiar and eventually I concluded that it’s just kind of derivative. I’ve read a few too many ‘she stole everything from me’ stories and this didn’t add anything new beyond the twin thing.

The plot line may not be original, but WOW, J.S. Lark did not write a copycat story.

Twins, identical twins. The share everything, they are inseperable. There are many "hints" given as the story of how the twins met and fell in love with the same man. When he chose, the other twin left, his choice seperates them as nothing else could. But when the twins are reunited after a 30yr seperation, you just know that they are no longer the same and the "hints" get stronger. Yikes!

Lots of twists and turns to keep track of as well as the twins memories of BEFORE....yes BEFORE in capital letters. That's the only hint I'm giving you, you have to read the book to find out how different this story is than the identical twins go crazy stories you've read before.....

This novel has a really interesting and clever premise. It is well-written and gripping at times. I felt that the parts of the novel set in the twins’ childhood was the strongest part of the book – tough to read at times, but very well drawn and very sympathetic to two little girls who are let down by just about everyone.

The present day sections didn’t work so well for me. I found it hard to like Jonny, and was frustrated that Sarah didn’t speak up. I also wasn’t completely convinced by the final plot twist and whether it was really feasible.

But a good read, and I’d definitely read more by this author.

“The Twins” by J.S. Lark is the dark tale of how there’s always one good twin and one bad twin. Susan and Sarah are inseparable, they do everything together… until Susan meets Jonny. Jonny is this smooth, handsome man who seems to be able to give them all the love and happiness they never had growing up, but he can only choose one of them. Now, Sarah, free of her twin, remakes her life- a husband, a home, a daughter. When Susan finds Sarah, Susan is determined to take back the life she claims Sarah has stolen from her.

If I had to summarize this book with one word, I would easily pick the word “twisty.” Sarah and Susan have that classic twin dynamic with the twist of one of them being evil. Their childhood creates these characters that are willing to do anything to find love, but even more so are willing to do anything to survive.

Ultimately, this book is filled with trigger warnings. It can be a lot to take back to back to back. In the end, it all weighed on me as a reader, so I gave it 3 stars. However, if you’re into darker books this might be the perfect thriller for you!

Thanks to NetGalley and One More Chapter for the eARC in exchange for my honest review!

TW - rape, child neglect, under age sex, drug abuse, prostitution

Well that was a rollercoaster of a ride!

Sarah and Susan are identical twins who lost contact back in 1985. In the present day Susan turns up at her sister’s door and the events of their childhood unfolds.

This was quite uncomfortable to read in places as the topics are not skimmed over - there is a vivid recollection of rape.

I did find it easy to follow the timelines even though there was no indicators which timeline you were in.

I did find it difficult to find out who’s narrative it was though as sometimes the names of Sarah and Susan were used when it was their own narrative. This has been sorted out hopefully as this was an ARC.

It got very twisty towards the end - I was expecting the first twist but not the second.

A great domestic noir thriller, easy to read and one not easy to put down.

I volunteered to read this book through netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This book is well written and the characters are described well. The pacing of this book is quick.I enjoyed Lucy's character. I didn't expect that to happen. This book has all the twists and turns a good thriller needs. This ebook is in stores for $.99 (GBP).

This is a Thriller. I want to start by saying that this book has things in it that could upset some readers, so please do your research before reading this book (some things it has drug issues, rape of under age kids, and much more). I have to say it took me some time to get into this book because the book jumps from 1985 (I think) when the twins was 13 to present today. I do not feel that the book really does the time jumps well. I wish that under the character number would be the year we where in. I only say that because most the characters where in both timelines, so you have to read and just figure out what time period we would in. I did read an ARC, so maybe they will fix that before the book comes out. I love the twists, and this was super high pace once you get into it. I really enjoyed it after I figured out the timelines. I am going to say I would of give this book five stars if the timelines and plot line was not hard to follow. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (One More Chapter) or author (J.S. Lark) via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review about how I feel about this book, and I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

I would rate this book 3.25 out of 5 stars.

This had so much about it for me to be excited about. I love a complicated sister relationship in a book make it twins and that's just the cream on top.

I enjoyed the story overall but I did find it, for me, entirely predictable. Right from the start I predicted basically every twist and turn the plot would take. The main issue I had with the book however was that I did find the author to be incredibly repetitive in how often she is telling the reader how close these twins are and how they think with one mind - she really hits you over the head with it.

If you enjoy twisted sister relationships (especially with twins!) then give this one a go!

3.5 rounded up to 4 stars. Susan and Sarah - Sarah and Susan. Identical twins who have definitely led eventful lives. Dragging themselves up with practically no input from their hapless mother. Then one day they meet Jonny, the catalyst for all sorts of things. Would have been easier to follow with different fonts or more headings. Just too confusing as it is nor is it helped when their names are mixed up a few times at the beginning. The reader has to continually check to see who is who which breaks the flow. Dark topics are covered in this novel which might upset some people. No one could be described as nice and wholesome. I had to keep reading to see if anything worked out for this threesome! To say I was gripped would be an understatement but enjoyable? Not really sure. Journeys will pass by in a flash reading this book, that’s for sure!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an advanced copy of this book. I have always been instantly intrigued by novels about twins, and the latest book The Twins by J. S. Lark did not disappoint. This was a twisty, turny read that ended up being quite different from the book I expected to read going in. Left me with many questions at the end - the always intriguing question of the road less taken - what if the twins had had a different upbringing, if one of them had never been the “bad” twin at all? Fascinating. I give this a solid 4/5, and would look forward to reading another novel by J. S. Lark.

I was incredibly underwhelmed with this novel. By 60% in I was hoping it would pick up pace and offer something spectacular. Not to be.

The novel switches between two timeframes in the life of two twins. I found the earlier parts of their life when they were teenagers more interesting by far. However, the book just did not deliver for me.

It’s very slow, The emotion in it could be a lot better and overall the plot was rather insipid. I was really struggling to want to keep reading.

I love books involving family dynamics, dysfunction and consequences of choices and actions. I’ve read many great books this year. The Twins was a major disappointment in my 2021 reading plan.

Only two stars from me.

Thank you to Harper Collins and NetGalley for my review copy. All opinions are my own and totally unbiased.

I don't really read a lot of thrillers, but the synopsis made me really curious about the book and I was looking forward to reading it. Unfortunately, I didn't like it as much as I had wanted to and the book left me pretty underwhelmed.

Very early on the book started to confuse me, as the POV was switched (present and past) so there were two different timelines. But they weren't indicated at the beginning which caused me to be confused every chapter and I had to figure out in which timeline we were and whose perspective it was now. I also couldn't recognise a certain pattern, which made it even harder. Especially, as a third timeline was introduced. I wish it had been indicated in the beginning of every chapter and that, in total, there were only two timelines instead of three.

Another problem I had were the characters. I all fell flat to me and I couldn't connect to them or even properly understand their actions. A lot just didn't make sense to me. The plot twists concerning the characters also weren't very surprising because I suspected thee twists were to happen very early on.

Unfortunately, the book disappointed me. I think it had a lot of potential, but the execution wasn't very well done.

This book has alot of sensitive issues that could upset readers. The book jumped from 1985 to present day and I found that process didnt work well. Lots of twists , was very fast paced, . I found the main characters hard to connect to.
