The New Girlfriend by Sheryl Browne is a psychological thriller novel full of lies and deception, so much so that at times it becomes difficult to keep track of all the false statements being made throughout.

The author fails to carry forward the well-executed beginning till the end. One of the major twists becomes predictable midway, but the overall writing still keeps the interest in the story intact.

Thanks to the author and the publisher for the ARC.

Verdict: One time read.

This was a gripping and enjoyable read. Perhaps maybe a bit predictable but enjoyable all the same. I would recommend this book.

This was a gripping and totally captivating story that I found impossible to separate myself from!
The plot was perfect, with the exact right level of suspense that kept you engrossed and well and truly invested in the story as it begins to unfold.
The characters were also given so much depth and detail, that it allowed you to feel a real connection to them throughout and allowed you to fully immerse yourself in the world in which the author brings to life.

A fantastic, brilliantly written book that had me hooked to the very end.

I did enjoy this even though it was a bit predictable. The storyline kept me engaged and it was an easy read. My first book from this author and I will look at her other titles.

A recommended thriller.

The New Girlfriend was a gripping book for the most part, then it just went & got all predictable. The book began with a compelling chapter & kept the tension going for quite some time. I loved that sense of foreboding that keeps you turning the pages furiously. However, I lost interest at the point Cassie started making repeated illogical choices borne out of knee-jerk reactions. Which is also why I found the ending very surprising! The end was sinisterly good & kind of made up for the interest I lost during the course of the book.

Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture & Sheryl Browne for an arc!

This book was well written. There were some characters you could connect to but some not. It was very fast paced , twisted and I found it hard to put down. This book was told by multiple points of view. The story just flowed and I enjoyed it so much.

Cassie is mourning the sudden loss of her only son when a woman shows up at her door with a baby. Kimberly claims to be her dead son’s girlfriend and presents her with a grandchild. Cassie can not believe it and embraces this as a way to hold onto the son she lost. But things turn suspicious, Cassie starts getting threatening messages about a secret she’s held for years and questions arise to how Josh really died.

A quick psychological thriller read with unreliable characters. I enjoyed the writing style and surprise ending so will definitely check out other books by this author.

I’m a big fan of Lisa Jewell’s books and this one certainly didn’t disappoint. The story centres on the disappearance of a young girl, Saffyre, who has had a troubled childhood. Roan is the child psychologist dealing with her case and is an unlikeable character. He is married to Cate and has two teenage children. Owen, a college lecturer, is an odd character. He lives opposite Roan with his aunt and he has never had a girlfriend. As the plot thickens we discover how these characters are linked and what secrets they are all hiding. Lisa explores how appearances can be deceiving and how quickly society judges people. This is a story about secrets, lies, deception with quite a few sensitive topics covered and fascinating characters whose stories will have you gripped. A highly recommended read.
Thanks to Netgalley and Cornerstone for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

As a mother, it's hard to overcome the death of your only child and Cassie is no exception here. Her husband is supportive in every possible way but there's not much he can actually do in reality. Then comes an unexpected twist when a young woman with a baby appear at their doorsteps pretending that she's Josh's wife and his baby. Of course that she takes then in even doubting Kim as she never heard of her , let alone knowing she's a grandmother now. And now it's when the story gets more interesting because , with the new girlfriend appearance, there a mysterious trail of letters in her postmail every so often and that swifts the whole plot to another level.
I've heard great things about the author's books and even if it's just the first for me, overall it was a gripping story but way too predictable for my liking.

Many thanks to the publisher for my review copy through NetGalley. My opinions are my own.

Cassie stares at the woman on her doorstep in disbelief. Just months after losing her only son, Josh, here stands a stranger claiming to be Josh’s girlfriend. But it’s not only the woman Cassie is shocked by, it’s the baby nestled in Kim’s arms. Cassie’s grandchild.

I know what you did.

As Cassie tries to do what’s best for baby Samuel, she starts to receive threatening messages from someone from her past – someone Cassie has been hiding from for a long time. Cassie is frightened that her biggest secret is about to be revealed and she will lose everything, including her precious grandson.

You took everything from me. Now you need to pay.

As the messages get more sinister, Cassie realises the person behind them knows every detail about her life and she fears that she is being watched. Could Kim be the link between Cassie and the mysterious messenger? And is she in danger now that she has welcomed this woman and her baby into her home?

The story was very fast paced and I enjoyed the rollercoaster of a read. The characters were portrayed exactly as they should be and I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

While Cassie is overcome whit grief by losing her son, Josh, her past comes knocking. Someone wants to reveal who she really is and to reveal what she spent all this years hiding.

The story was narrated using different POV: Kim’s, Cassie’ s, Joshua’s and Jemma. The plot was gripping, but at the same time predictable unfortunately that’s why the three stars. I hope in a final twist that could blew my theory off, but it wasn’t there.

After the death of her son, Josh, Cassie finds herself in a dark place. She’s grieving and finding it hard to cope. Her husband, Adam is supportive, but she still finds it hard.

Kim arrives out of the blue, after a brief appearance at the funeral. She’s given birth to Josh’s baby and wants his family to be part of Samuels. Cassie is suspicious and as the weeks progress she’s more and more anxious about Kim Ann her intentions. Is she who she says she is?

I really enjoyed this but I did find there were too many unexpected twist plots running through the novel, which left me confused with what was happening, who was related and who did what in some places.

Cassie was truly neurotic and this can’t across well; it made me sympathise with what she was enduring, when everyone around her were twisting the truth.

I liked the flashbacks to when Josh was alive and I’m pleased we found out the truth around his death, although it wasn’t what I had expected.

I’d definitely pick up another of Sheryl Browne’s books.

I found this book too over the top and the writing too unconvincing to finish.
Thank you for the opportunity to try it.

Thank you Netgalley, Bookouture and Sheryl Browne for this copy.

This book focuses on a trio of woman dealing with the death of their son, boyfriend and ex partner. Full of secrets and skeletons to unravel.

Cassie lost her son Josh to a tragic accident, and this sends her unravelling. Some time later Cassie receives a visit from Josh's on/off girlfriend Kim. Most shocking of all is the perfect look alike baby, Samuel, that Kim introduces her to. Finally Cassie feels like she has something to live for. She has a grandson to love and treasure.
Cassie's happiness doesn't last though as she starts to receive threatning text messages. Now she has to figure out just how far she'll go to defend her family.

What Cassie can't figure out is why Josh never mentioned Kim if they were so in love and planning a family. How does Kim know Josh's ex? How much should Cassie trust what Kim has to say? So many questions to be answered!

There is a lot about this story that I enjoyed. The multiple POVs, the surprise twist at the end and the character development was on point, as it has been with this author's previous stories which I have enjoyed. Highly recommend.

So many twists and turns in this gripping story. I loved it. The back stories bring it altogether so well. A really unique story with great characters.

I enjoyed this but didn't love it. There were a few twists but it was relatively predictable, though I still enjoyed the ride. Most of the characters were so unlikable and they all had secrets that kept me intrigued.

Though I didn't love it, it was a good read that had me glued to the pages. 3.5 stars

My Review:

An awesome read by a great author. Loved, loved, loved this book. This was my first book by Sheryl Browne and will definitely not be my last. This book is a stand alone.

This book was about a mother grieving the loss of her son but come to find out she had a grandson from him she did not know existed. Is it really her grandson? Did her son know he had a son before he died? Is her grandsons mom really who she says she is? What secrets are all these people hiding?

I want to start off by saying there was only one character in the book that was likable and that person was Adam. He was the only person who was genuine and had nothing to hide. With that being said the author definitely intended this and the book would not have worked otherwise. Yes, the other characters were nasty and all had something to hide but that’s what made them so interesting. Their secrets are what made this book. I loved all the twists and turns this book took. I had no clue where it was going to take me. I really thought I had it all figured out then bam another shock had happened. This was truly a roller coaster ride I didn’t want to end.

Between the plot, characters and all the twists in this book it made it an easy and fast read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I loved reading this book!
It was such a page-turner. I was totally invested in the story. I liked how the story is told in two timelines (the present, and the time when Josh was alive). It was pretty entertaining.

I loved this book. I found it really well-written. It was the first I have read, by this author, but will definitely not be the last.

The level of detail was great. It definitely meant that the characters and world were brought to life, in a way that made me feel as though I was part of the story. This made it really easy to connect, and want to see what was going to happen.

Overall, I found it hard to put this book down and I highly recommend it!
