I thought this was brilliant. A hugely insightful - and entertaining - biography of an important figure in the history of science (and religion), who is normally relegated to eccentric cameo in other treatments of the period. I bought a copy for my dad - a retired chemist - who also enjoyed it immensely.

I've always been fascinated by palaeontology and the world of fossil hunters.
I loved this book because it made me discover and interesting and fundamental character for the history of palaeontology.
Well written and well researched it's an engrossing and informative read.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
