Fantastic sample that has left me eager to get my hands on the rest of the book! I loved Stuart Turton’s first book, 7 Deaths, and this looks to be every bit as well-written and memorable.

I haven’t yet read The 7 1/2 Lives of Evelyn Hardcastle but it’s gonna happen soon!! I promise!! (I’ve been promising myself this for ages now. Oops.) But in the exert for this book, we have a bodyguard protecting his employer as he boards a ship with other prisoners, until a leper with his tongue cut starts spouting premonitions about the future. The story hadn’t quite taken shape in any form before the exert finished, but there was definitely things being set up for the main plot of the book, and I am very intrigued to read what happens next. I’ll definitely be checking this out!

I thoroughly enjoyed Stuart Turtons last book so couldn’t wait to read this sample. I am now desperate to get my hands on the full story. Turtons writing is gripping and draws you in.

I was anxious to read this sampler, how does one top The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle? While I've only had a glimpse of two chapters, I feel sure that this book will not disappoint. I am already hooked and have the book on pre-order so I don't have to wait any longer than I have to, to find out what happens.

Wow, this first chapter of The Devil and the Dark Water is compelling, dark, and completely mysterious. I can only imagine that the rest of the book will be a non-stop page-turner.

Very promising! I can't wait to read the entire novel! I love the topic and the author's foreword about where he got the idea and I'm very eager to find out where he will take the story.

Thanks to Netgalley for a digital sample in exchange for an honest review :) I find it really hard to rate because it was only a sample of the book (just 16 pages), so there wasn’t much that happened. These 16 pages reminded me how awesome Stuart Turton's writing is. I am a big fan of everything "The 7½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle" is and I am incredibly excited for a new book by him.

I found this one really hard to rate because it was only a sample of the book so there wasn’t much to go on but the stuff I did read as great and I am so intrigued. I’ll definitely be getting my hands on the full copy and giving this one a read. The sample has 16 pages of the book and I’m already hooked on it and dying to read more. It did feel the same as his other book but from what I’ve read so far I’m sure it’ll be just as good. I liked the bit of history at the beginning of the book to give the reader a bit of knowledge about where the idea for this book had come from and so you know exactly where and when you are.

It’s hard to judge a book by the opening chapter but this is one of two samples I’ve read today, and the other filled me with excitement to find out what happened next, while this one fell short. 
There are a lot of characters introduced all at the same time and you get a feel for each characters personality but I wasn’t able to get attached to any of them or hooked to want to see where their story will go. 
I enjoyed the authors previous book so I may pick this up for that reason but the sample itself was only so-so for me.

I knew nothing about the Batavia until I began to read this. A quick Internet search told me some facts about this East India Company shipwreck and the events that followed. I am interested to see where the author takes this tale of murder and mystery on the high seas, will definitely want to read the full novel.

Difficult to review as this was only a sampler. But what a compelling sampler! I want to read it NOW!

Oh my goodness. That little snippet was nowhere near enough. I want more of Arent, I need to know why Sammy was arrested and I want to see how far Sara is willing to push her husband during a time where the husband's rule is law. 

This promises to be just as twisty as Seven Deaths was. October, get here faster.

My interest is well and truly whetted, as I loved The Seven and Half Deaths Of Evelyn Hardcastle and was really looking forward to his next novel Stuart Turton has gone for a different time period, and it’s a mystery again, so out of my comfort zone, but I cannot wait to read this book! I had a really strong sense of the characters and the intrigue from the first few pages of this book, so will devour it when it is released!

Wow, if this sampler is anything to go by, The Devil and the Dark Water is going to be every bit as good as Start Turton’s previous book (which I adored!). I can’t wait to read the rest of what I’m sure is going to be a riveting read.

I have to say, if this book is anywhere near as good as Seven Deaths was I'll be very happy, and the first chapter has definitely ramped up the hype for me. this sounds like it's going to be amazing and I'm very much looking forward to it.
A mystery at sea? Sign me the heck up!
