I simply adored this little book and am in love with its illustrations. Merve, is a very forgetful little mouse who lives in the attic with his mom and dad. Merve loves to explore but he is so forgetful that "loosing his way became quite problematic, he couldnt remember his way back to the attic" !!

Merve the Mouse is a fun, young children’s book that is told in a rhyming style. The illustrations are brightly and colorfully drawn, they are sure to draw young readers attention. Overall the book is very short and it doesnt contain alot of writing, so its definitely a perfect book for budding readers.

I recieved a digital copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Merve the Mouse lives in the attic of a house with his mum and dad. Downstairs lives Miss Sillyfog and her cat Marmalade and dog Marmite.

Merve likes to explore but he also can’t remember how to get back to the attic, meaning that the resident and her animals nearly capture him. He needs to come up with a way to remember how to get back as this time was a close call.

Merve the Mouse is a fun, young children’s book that is told in a rhyming style. It has fun, colourful illustrations that are felt-tip drawn. When Merve gets scared he rolls himself up into a ball rather than running away which nearly has bad consequences for him, that is until his mum comes to save him. I like that Merve comes across as vulnerable rather than a tough, heroic mouse as not everyone is tough and heroic some are not so confident.

I think the book is rather cute and amusing. It is very short and there’s not a lot of text which would be good for a new reader or one learning to read, plus there are plenty of repetitive words. The illustrations help with the text too as they showcase what is happening at each stage.

I find this story a bit funny. The cat and dog made me laugh so hard. I also find the last scene funny. A must read. The illustrations are good too. I really enjoyed reading it.

This is a sweet, charmingly illustrated book that young children will enjoy having read to them.  With its rhymes and repetition, it is sure to delight toddlers.  They will watch as Merve encounters danger, reunites with his mum and figures out how to prevent getting lost in the future.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title that is sure to please its intended audience.

This book is a fun and easy read for young pre-school and nursery children. It is written largely in rhyming couplets this book uses colourful text and different sized fonts to its advantage to create a memorable and heart-warming tale of Merve the Forgetful Mouse and how he forgets his way home. The illustrations are simple black and white drawings with a minimal colour palette that is fun and grabs the reader’s attention.

A good use of repetition and contains useful sight words that will encourage emerging readers.

Merve the Forgetful Mouse is about a mouse that gets lost on its way back to the attic. The story is very basic as are the illustrations. I think maybe there needs to be more illustrations for children to look at.

A simple story to follow with my son, and he enjoyed it. The illustrations were something he could understand whilst I was reading the story to him.

A good, straightforward story that can be read to young children.

This has a very different look to it compared with the majority of books aimed at this age group. Rather than big, bold, colorful illustrations, it goes for a simple, understated approach, with lots of white space and greater focus on the text, which is minimal and presented in a variety of fonts and sizes. This actually works quite well as it forces children to look at the words, some of which they'll be starting to recognize.

The story is sweet and easy for preschoolers to understand. It is told in rhyme but is not rhythmic. This is disappointing, as it means that the narrative loses its momentum when being read aloud. There is some lovely alliteration and onomatopoeia, though, as well as some interesting verbs and adjectives to promote vocabulary development.

I was concerned that my grandsons, aged 3 and 4, wouldn't find this book appealing because of its appearance, but I couldn't have been more wrong. They happily sat and looked at the digital version with me and seemed absolutely enchanted by Merve and his adventures. I would seriously consider buying the physical book to add to their growing library.

My thanks to NetGalley and Troubador Publishing for the digital ARC.

Thank you to the publisher for giving me a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

I love books like these. They make me want to be a child all over again and enjoy it even more. I love the art style in this one. I think it's fun yet very simple, which makes it fun and fast to read for the reader. The age group is definitely young because of the way it's written, and it's clear by the words used that this is not for older readers which I can appreciate, since I have too read children's books where there were words that I didn't even understand, let alone a child who is 6. Anyhow that wasn't the case in this one which I was very happy about.

The story itself was very fun. The mouse Merve has trouble finding his way back home because he's simply just so forgetful. And you read about what he experience on his way back. Simple story, but yet very enjoyable.

Merve the mouse lives with his parents in Miss Sillyfog's attic, along with her cat and dog. He is an adventurous mouse who loves to explore, but has trouble finding his way back to the attic at the end of the day. To avoid being caught by the other inhabitants of the house, Merve curls up into a tiny ball.. When Merve's mum calls to him, he hurries toward her voice, running through an open paint tray, leaving footprints leading to the attic. When his mum asks how Merve will learn to find his way home, he tells her that he will follow the footprints leading him home.

Verdict: I would purchase this book for KN-2nd grade classrooms to add to the leveled reading baskets. It has repetitive high frequency sight words and words with basic phonetic rules. This is a fun book for children that are developing their reading skills.

A decent little read for the very young, with a simple story of a wee house mouse exposed to mild peril on his way home to the particular hole his family lives in. The rhyme isn't always perfect, with a couple of instances of beats slightly fudged and a line or two left hanging as not part of a successful couplet, but on the whole this is very easy to read and share for a newcomer to such books. The design is funky enough, too, with changes in font, lettering size and colour all adding to visual appeal. That allows for, or is because of the fact that, the artwork on display is more of the small cameo illustration and not the full page image. So little is perfect here, but nothing is at fault either – a solid three point five from me.
