Oh boy. One of my favorite series, and to be honest, I was close to rating it 3 stars. The first one I LOVED, the second one was great, and then this one was just ok.

The problem wasn't the writing. The author is fantastic, and I'll forever read the books she puts out. It's that now with this series, there are far too many main characters. I'm sorry, but no one is going to be better than Raine and Bette and now they aren't in it enough. And they have so much story to tell. What about Bette's marriage, and her father? I thought for sure we were going to concentrate on that storyline but it wasn't even mentioned. How does that happen after how the second book ended??

I equate it to "Orange is the New Black". Once you make everyone the main character, it isn't as good. Go back to your two main leads! I want Piper and Alex!

I'll still read the next one, but I'm not as excited as I usually am. Bummer.

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I didn't realize this is the third book in a series when I selected the book. I'm not sure it is a good stand alone e read.

The plot started slowly and it wasn't clear that the time period was a different generation - the characters are WACs. The conversations seemed stilted.

The author uses lengthy descriptions to set the mood, describe the vignettes of the military lives of these characters.

I normally enjoy Bold Stroke books - unfortunately, this one didn't hold my interest.

Another one that I enjoyed but wasn't really sure of the chemistry between the main characters and the flow of the story didn't work much for me.

I loved it although it was a little hard to get because it was third book in a series and I didn't know that but however I loved it.

3.50 Stars. This was another good installment in the Love and Courage series. My first thoughts after reading book 2 was that I figured it should be the end of the series, that a third book wasn’t really needed. While I have to admit I was wrong. I enjoyed this book 3 and felt comfortable reading it. I was happy to revisit characters that feel like old friends and now I don’t want this series to end. I don’t know how many more stories about the Women’s Army Corps Morrison has left in her head, but I will miss these characters if this is the end.

The way the first two books are written, part of the timeline overlaps but is seen through different characters in each book. Because of that I thought you really could read either of the two books in any order. After reading this book, now order really does matter. Not only characters but multiple storylines ran into this book from the previous books. I think if you start reading here you will be a bit confused and might not enjoy the series as much as you could. So again, I’m taking back what I said during my last Morrison review and highly recommending that you read this series in order.

This series is historic-romance, but it is also a little soap opera like. There is a lot of drama that goes on so that this feels like a more modern series. I sometimes even forget that this is taking place in the 1940’s. I don’t mean that as a knock on Morrison because she clearly transports you to a different time, it’s just that I get so wrapped up in these characters that I feel like I could run into them on the street.

While there are plenty of small plot lines that keep things moving, this really is a character driven series -which may be why I find it very comfortable-. The characters of Rain and Bett, who are in all three books, are the stars of this series. I knew from a Zoom reading with Morrison that she was going to challenge them, which brought some new drama to keep things interesting. Rain and Bett have slowly been making their way up on my list of favorite couples. After all the growth they have had over three books, and Rain being totally crush-on-able, this couple has made their mark on my heart.

I have to be honest that these books are not perfect. There are times I feel Morrison starts something but then forgets about it and it leaves me scratching my head. Like what was the big gift Rain bought? And there are also times I feel the villains of the books are a bit too mustache twirling for my tastes, but I still like this series bumps and all. This series has really grown on me and I can’t seem to shake it. If this is the end of the series I will miss it, if not, I will read the next. I would suggest this to historical-romance and military romance fans, especially if you like character driven, with some drama, stories

Bett and Rain are both serving in the WAC and living together in the 1940’s. While reading this book I kept forgetting the time period as I was caught up in their relationship and learning about each other. This is book three in the series but I read it as a stand-alone. Now I have to go buy and read the first two.

Full disclosure, I didn't realize this book was part of a series before I picked it up, and I have no clue if it is a good or bad thing. I do feel like I am missing some information/ background to some of the characters, but the story is mostly standalone, I think at least.

Sergeant Bett Smythe and Lieutenant Gale Rains live together off the WAC base. When they get invited to a dinner party at the house of Captain Kathleen Hartley and Lieutenant Victoria Whitman they get introduced to other lesbians in and out of the corp. Kat and Whit have a difficult relationship, mostly because Kat has a crush on Rains and tries to hide it but get close to her at the same time. Whit is all in, but Kat never seems to be all in. Bett and Rains, however, are solid they share everything and are madly in love. Bett notices the interest Kat has in Rains and warns her, but Rains doesn't believe it, she doesn't understand how you can have eyes for someone else when you are in a committed relationship. Rains has had trouble with one of Whit's friends before and now this friend is accused of sexually assaulting a recruit. This is threatening the lives of all the women on the base. Kat threatens to lose Whit with her infatuation for Rains and Rains remains oblivious to this fact.

I think I needed to read about 50% of this book to get a feeling for who is who. I really disliked this part of the book, too many fantasies, visions, and diversions from the story. I like Rains and Bett as characters, I don't much care for Kat and Whit. I had a hard time switching between all the nicknames they have for each other, hard to keep track of what is going on. The second part of the book was a lot better, If I were to judge the book only on the last 50% I'd give it 4 stars, but as it is now 3. I don't know if it was difficult to get into the story because I didn't read the other books in this series or something else. I suspect it has not much to do with not reading the others in series.

I had to think for a good while about this rating and once again I really wish goodreads did half stars, because this is a 3.5. I very nearly went for four, but the fact that even though I've read the two previous books in the Love & Courage series, this book referred back to them so much it frustrated me! I realise this isn't meant to be read as a standalone, but I shouldn't have to go back and search through two other books, (which I enjoyed and remember well) to make sense of the third.

Once the book settled down and I knew where I was and who was who, it was really well written. I love the old characters, (Rain & Bett in particular) and Victoria Whitman aka Whit is an excellent addition to the cast. Morrison has done a great job of recreating the undercurrent of fear that was always present for the WACs, given the armed forces' repeated witch hunts looking for any behaviour that 'threatens the core beliefs of the WAC'.

Overall I would recommend this book, but definitely read the other two first!

I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.

I didn’t read the first two books so I’m coming in blind and getting to know Sergeant Bett Smythe and Lieutenant Gale Rains in this book.

Bett and Rain are building a life together even though they have to stay quiet while in the Army’s Corps. As they navigate they meet a couple Captain Kathleen and Lieutenant Victoria and are surprise that their a place where you could be yourself and meet other couples but it’s a secret.

As we get to know Kathleen and Victoria their relationship has some turbulence but as a friendship is deepen between the four feelings starts to get in the way but things start getting worse when a sexual assault is reported and it’s investigation could ruin their lives.

I like how the writing of the author and her ability to carry the tension throughout the story was well written that had me rooting for the characters the chemistry between the characters were on point.
