2* an OK read, but, not for me.

Jessica is on her second marriage, with a daughter she adores and a stepson she's very unsure of. Then she finds that her husband's business is failing and things start to crumble.

It's mainly a tale of family disparity, with a step sister and step brother who have difficulties and an overbearing mother in Jessica who seems overly obsessed with her daughter. Then, a school friend is murdered and things get darker.

It's an OK read, but, I found it uninteresting and with irritating characters and plot.

Thanks to NetGalley and WW Norton and Co for the opportunity to preview.

I devoured this thriller in less than 24 hours. A family drama that spins out of control. Likeable characters that turn unlikeable. Everyone seems to have a closet full of secrets and a side to them that is less than desirable. A great read for those that haven’t picked up a book in a while, You Will Never Know will hook you from the start to the finish,

I'm so disappointed because my last few reads just haven't been great. This was no exception. I couldn't get over how many stereotypes there were for starters. I felt like I was reading the same "thriller" I've read a thousand times. It was also so predictable, to the point where I finally just started swimming the pages to get through it.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher. Sadly, this one wasn't for me.

Thanks to NetGalley and W. W. Norton & Company for the digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Sadly this book was just not for me. There were too many stereotypes and it was too predictable. There was a lot going on so I'm sure this will resonate with other readers. Best wishes to the author.

I went into this book not knowing anything about it. It started off slow but it did pick up. While it was a page turner it was ok

It was my first book by this author and it won’t be my last

A mediocre suspense novel that played into multiple stereotypes of the genre. Characterization was severely underdeveloped, the writing was cast, and the trope was familiar with a plot that played out as any avid reader of the genre would expect. Perhaps this narrative may be a better fit to those new to the genre. 2 stars.

Thank you to #NetGalley for #GrantingMyWish. This ARC was read and reviewed voluntarily by Wayward Readers Book Blog.

Probably not the best book I’ve read all year. It started out ok, and I had hoped it would get better but sadly, it didn’t. Very predictable and dragged at times with too much information that wasn’t pertinent to the story. Maybe the next book will be better!

I was on the edge of my seat reading this book in one sitting. I could not put it down. I had to know what happened. Prentice wrote a deliciously chilling, riveting, and sinister tale. A tale of deception, murder, lies, schemes, and loyalty. As each chapter passes a reader will think they have a grasp on who is the one lying. Only to turn another page and discover another lie and cover up, from a different angle. The author has great plotting, skilled story telling, and talent for keeping a reader engaged. The only character I liked was the defense attorney, all the other main characters are despicable. But I was compelled to keep reading. I love a book that keeps me mesmerized. And hanging at the end.

This book was not for me. The characters all spoke like caricatures of thriller characters- as if someone was just kidding the whole time. The story wasn't interesting, and, I felt like I had figure it out by 25% in. I went ahead and checked the ending and...I did. I was really hoping for a fun weekend read, and this just missed the mark.

Story started pretty slow and really picked up about half way through. A woman and her daughter join a family with a man and his son. It is a blended family and has its problems. And then one night the kids go missing. And a kid at school dies. The husband also wasn’t home. So- who did it and who do you believe? Then some things start coming up from the past that make you start questioning more things. End got a little unbelievable for my liking. . I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This book was truly awful. The twists could be seen coming and mile away and the characters felt like ridiculous caricatures. I couldn’t believe the amount of times the author described the mother’s obsession with the smell of her daughter’s sweat. So jarring and unnecessary.

Thanks to NetGalley and W. W. Norton & Company for the digital ARC.

You Will Never Know my SA Prentiss was a pretty good thriller. Jessica is married to Ted. She has a teen daughter Emma and Ted has a teen son Craig. Their life seems perfect but is isn’t. One night Craig and Emma sneak out of the house. Jessica and Ted have no clue where they went and look for them with no luck. They returned in the middle of the night with a lame excuse about a scavenger hunt. The next day it turns out one of their classmates was murdered in the forest. His name is Sam and he was a bully to Craig. I don’t want go too much further into the plot. This was a pretty decent story until the end. The ending seemed a little bit rushed and when I read the final paragraph I tried to turn the page because I thought that can’t be the end. The characters were somewhat unlikable but that does not bother me when I read a book. I would definitely recommend checking this book out. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

You Will Never Know (S. A. Prentiss) starts off as one mystery but quickly brings past events to the forefront. Lots of twists and surprises. Excellent read and difficult to put down. I want to thank NetGalley and Penzlerfor an early copy to review.

Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. This book is about a murder of a high school wrestler. The night of the murder Jessica's daughter and her stepson did not come home until 3:00 am. This book kept me guessing from beginning to end. The only thing I did not care for was the ending.

This book was a little slow at first and then the twists and turns showed up. So i really needed to know who did it.

Jessica and Ted are married but each is more loyal to their child than to each other. When a popular high school wrestler is found dead the family is questioned about their whereabouts and lies are told in order to keep secrets. But is on of them keeping a deadly secret? What would a parent do to protect their child?

Yeeeeeeah, so...listen: I like a hidden sociopath as much as the next girl, but there were just way too many false notes in this for me to remain engaged. Too bad, really, as some aspects were well thought out and even interesting.

Summary
After a lifetime of hardship, Jessica Thornton finally has the life she’s dreamed of: a new marriage to a realtor with burgeoning success; a daughter whose athleticism has won her a scholarship to college; and a freshly-secured grant from her bank to finally complete her own higher education.

Her life today is a complete reversal from the not-too-distant past, when the death of her first husband left her penniless and desperate to provide for her then-newborn child. But after the murder of her children’s high school classmate, a series of disturbances brings Jessica to question whether her dreams ever actually came true, or whether they’ve just been delusions all along . . .

I hope the ending of this book gets re-written before this goes to press because, to me at least, it ruined the whole book.

Here’s the thing: I really enjoyed reading this. I devoured it in under 24 hours; absolutely loved the beginning and middle. But the end? Gosh... The end was extremely bad and it brought the whole book down with it. The last 15% of this book felt rushed and half-baked. The last chapter especially - the chapter that wrapped up the whole plot - was extremely far-fetched and disappointing.

I think the story started going downhill from the moment the 'main incident' was introduced (this part showed up in red text in my manuscript). This was introduced too early and wasn't well-weaved into the rest of the story. Really, it all stared going downhill from there.

I really hope the ending of this book gets rewritten before it hits shelves because the beginning and first half of this book is excellent! Captivating, interesting, original; I was completely engrossed in this story and ready to give this book 5 starts. But the last 15%! The last chapter especially! It was dreadful and didn't make any sense to me at all.

Did the author give up writing this book 75% of the way in? Was someone else given a summary of the story and told, "finish this off however you please, just finish it and fast." I simply don't get how something that started so well could end so badly.

I'm still giving this 3 starts because the first part was fantastic. If only the ending and subplot got a better treatment!

I couldn’t even get past the first chapter. Talking about a teenager watching porn? No thanks. I will not being finishing this book.
