Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Book 9 in the Josie Quinn series, there are still some interesting twists and a great storyline. I have missed some of the earlier books so I think its best that I go back and read them. Definitely worth reading the whole series. |
This was a great paced book. Loved the setting it was captivating.! Lisa just blows me away with every book she writes. I love the connection within the characters and the way Lisa has me thinking I know whats going on but I have no idea. Please keep on writing Lisa !! |
I can’t believe that this is the ninth book in the series featuring Detective Josie Quinn. The town of Denton is being flooded and Josie and her team discover a body floating down the river wrapped in a tarpaulin. It is the body of a young woman but what makes Josie’s heart race is that she is wearing an old baseball jacket that belonged to her then boyfriend, who later became her husband, who had died a few years earlier. Josie then recognised the body as Beverley Urban, who was one of Josie’s enemies from school and who had bragged that she had had a relationship with Ray. There is plenty of danger and drama ahead for Josie as witnesses and suspects protect themselves and try to stop her solving the case. We are given glimpses of Josie’s personal history as we relive some of her teenage years at high school when she first met Ray. The book is full of twists and turns and an unexpected twist at the end. I look forward to reading book number ten. Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book. |
As we all know by now I love the Josie Quinn series. Lisa Regan is such a great storyteller. There are so many great characters, I am so invested in Josie & Noah’s relationship and I adore Misty and Harris. I’m not sure this could be read as a standalone just because all the characters have such dramatic backstories that you miss out on some of the story without that knowledge. However, that just means that you have 9 great books to read. As with the rest of the books in this series, I was hooked until the dramatic end and I was kept guessing throughout. Some of the action was a bit unrealistic but that just adds to the drama. I received a copy of the ebook via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review |
If you haven't read this series you are missing out! I can't believe it is book 9 in the series and the books just keep getting better and better! Usually when an author gets to book 9 the series has sizzled out but that's definitely not the case with Lisa Regan ! Why does a murdered body found underneath a house have Ray's letter man jacket on the body? and why does Josie know the victim as her high school bully? Was Ray a killer? So many questions that get answered in this thrilling book! I absolutely love this series and I'm so glad Lisa Regan keeps writing more because you can't help but not get very invested in Josie, Noah ,Gretchen and Missy's lives. Another captivated mystery that you will not be able to put down! Highly recommend all the book in this series! |
Another great Josie Quinn book. A murder mystery that stretches back into Josie’s past with disturbing connections to her deceased ex husband which puts doubt in her mind. There are also unsettling connections with the most influential people in Denton. The past always comes back to haunt us. |
EXCERPT: As she put Gretchen's phone into her pocket, she heard a siren in the distance. Her heart leapt at the thought that backup was so close, but then she realized it was just the fire company's emergency siren. The river was about to ravage the city again, and Josie and Gretchen were in it's maw, being shot at while trying to keep a wounded woman alive. ABOUT THIS BOOK: Heavy rain pours on the small town of Denton causing the riverbanks to break and the body of a young girl to float quietly to the surface. With no crime scene to examine, the odds are against Detective Josie Quinn and her team. Mercifully, the victim’s body is perfectly preserved, right down to the baseball patch on the jacket she was wearing. Josie can’t hide her devastation—her dead ex-husband, Ray, owned one just like it. Following the trail back to her high school, Josie identifies the girl as Beverly Urban, a troubled student rumored to have been dating Ray before she left town for good. It looks like a tragic accident until the autopsy reveals a bullet in her head and the heart-breaking secret she was keeping. Josie visits the salon where Beverly’s mother used to work, believing she was at the heart of a terrible scandal around the time her daughter’s life was taken. With the Denton wives remaining tight-lipped, Josie’s only hope is a secret meet-up with a terrified woman willing to talk. But she is murdered moments before giving Josie crucial information. It’s clear that someone is prepared to keep on killing to stop the truth from getting out. Digging deep into memories of her own past with Ray is the only advantage Josie has on this twisted killer… but at what cost? MY THOUGHTS: I have really loved this series, but there are a lot of things I dislike about this particular book. 1. There is zero character development of the main characters. 2. There is zero relationship development between the characters - any of them. 3. There are too many threads to this story, all of them pretty superficial - less is more, and give what is there more depth. 4. There is no way that this could be read as a stand-alone. If I hadn't read the previous books in the series I would have been totally lost. 5. There was absolutely no benefit to the plot in using flashbacks. It was 'filler'. 6. There is a lot of shooting. A lot of fighting. Very little subtlety. 7. I felt like Lisa Regan had taken the song 'Shame and Scandal' by Madness, and turned it into a book. 7. Another case of really stretching the credibility factor. In the real world eight stitches in Josie's leg would have seen her off work, or at least confined to desk duties. It really pains me to say this, but right now, having just closed the cover on Save Her Soul, I don't know if I will continue with this series. It had all the ingredients for a great read, but missed my mark by miles. **.7 #SaveHerSoul #NetGalley THE AUTHOR: Lisa Regan is the USA Today & Wall Street Journal bestselling author of the Detective Josie Quinn series as well as several other crime fiction titles. This is the 9th book in the Josie Quinn series and is just as good as all the others. It can be read as part of the series or as a stand alone as it gives a great deal of backstory. It was fast paced and exciting and I couldn't put it down. The characters were totally believable and "human." I loved this book and look forward to the next Lisa Regan. Thank you lisa, Bookouture and Netgalley for allowing me to give my unbiased opinion. |
I love the Josie Quinn series, it gets better with each book. I read it in one sitting as o could not put it down, it was fantastic to the last page. |
Another cracking read in a great series! These books just get better and better. Completely hooked from the first page to the last with loads of twists and turns along the way ! Highly recommend this series!! |
Another great Josie Quinn book. The town is under attack from torrential rain which is breaking the riverbanks. While out with Gretchin they pull a body out of the water the girl is wearing Ray, Josie's dead ex's baseball jacket. The girl has been dead 16 years and Josie knew her it's a bully by the name of Beverly Urben. They start talking to peop!e and discover that they thought Beverlyand her mum had done a moonlight flit. But obviously someone murdered Beverly and buried her in a cellar. Was it her mother of somebody they got entangled with. Loved this book Thanks NetGalley |

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to review this book. Excellent book and good story line |
I don't know how it's possible, but every book that Lisa writes for this series just makes me love it even more. It's definitely my favourite crime thriller series I've read and I already want more before I've even finished the previous book. I was only halfway through this one and I was already gutted that it was going to end and I'd have to wait for the next one, but I couldn't put it down. I practically read it in one sitting. I was undoubtedly gripped. The whole plot to this one was something so unexpected and cryptic, exactly what I crave from this series, I didn't know what was going on or what was going to happen until it actually happened. I loved how it all mingled in together so you didn't know what was real, who was lying and obviously whodunnit. I also love cold cases, going back nearly 20 years to an unsolved murder was very mysterious and perfect because it relates back to Joises past. And plots that include going back into her past are always my favourites. As always, I seriously recommend reading this series if you love a mysterious, action packed, heartbreaking crime thriller series with an incredible female protagonist. |
Save Her Soul is the 9th book in the Detective Josie Quinn series, but it can be read as a stand-alone. I had read the previous books but sometimes I get my series mixed together with others. The author did a wonderful job detailing the backstory. This book is a well written, fast-paced, page-turner with a shocking ending that I did not see coming. I loved it. I definitely recommend this series and can't wait to read more. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Lisa Regan for a copy of "Save Her Soul" in exchange of an honest review. |
After several days of heavy rain and flooding the town of Denton, Josie is out there helping in the rescue missions. When a house goes down in a landslide a long kept secret emerges from the basement and Josie has to find a killer and hold on to the good memories she has of her childhood friend, high school sweetheart and first husband. As usual the author captured my attention from the first chapter and it was impossible to put the book down. Highly recommended series! |
In this 9th installment of a long-running series featuring Detective Josie Quinn, the very foundations of her life are questioned as she investigates a murder that has relevance to her teenage years. Major flooding in Denton, Pennsylvania, has Josie and her colleague, Det. Gretchen Palmer, out on the water in an inflatable boat doing water rescues when they spot a blue, plastic tarp wrapped around a floating body in the rushing currents. The victim is identified as Beverly Urban, a girl that Josie had gone to high school with and who had been presumed moved away decades ago. The autopsy shows a gunshot to the back of the head and the manner of death is homicide. Somehow the preserved body is remarkably intact and Beverly is wearing a letter jacket that belonged to Josie's former boyfriend and husband, Ray. It's a small town with lots of secrets. NO SPOILERS. This was OK but far too much contrived coincidence with Josie's past. Also feel like the excessive descriptions of the flooding and details of all Josie's crazy misadventures in the water went overboard. She has the most messed up family situation and relationships and that, along with her convoluted past history, has just gotten to be almost too much. I had figured out most of the big twists and didn't find the thrills or suspense I was hoping for with this one. Might just be ready to be done with Josie and this series. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this e-book ARC to read and review. |

I love Josie!! She’s one of my favourite characters in all of the books I read. Lisa Regan is a very good author and this book is another smash hit in a long line of the brilliant reads. Everything you could want from a crime novel! |

We're back with book 9 in the Josie Quinn series by Lisa Regan. It's so nice to return to Denton and the citizens who live there, it's kind of like visiting old friends. Except now isn't a great time to visit because there's rain and flooding. The book starts right off with the action. Denton is flooding and during a search and rescue mission, Josie Quinn puts herself in harm’s way and recovers a dead body. And we are off to the races to identify the victim and solve the case. Turns out, the body is connected to Josie’s past which we explore more of through flashback scenes. The victim is connected to both Josie and her deceased ex-husband, Ray. The flashbacks reveal more about Josie and Ray in their teenage years. This is book nine in the series; Ray died back in book one, returning to Josie’s past relationship with Ray so many books later, after the character has grown so much, it felt a bit…redundant? But the discovery of the body and the case itself is interesting. We also get to see a vulnerable side of Josie, which she does not reveal often, and it involves Josie’s grandmother, Lisette, and a character named Sawyer. I did not like Sawyer when we first met him and by the end of the book, my opinion had not changed. I felt really bad for Josie and one hundred percent understood why she felt threatened by the revelation. 100% Team Josie haha. So far, in the series, we’ve really only witnessed the growing bond between Josie and Trinity. In book 8, we saw more of the relationship between Josie and her mom, dad, and Patrick. And we got insights into the family dynamic between Dad and Patrick which was really nice. Patrick and his girlfriend make an appearance here, it’s nice to see Josie building a relationship with him away from Trinity and her mom and dad. But it really was just an appearance and Josie was distracted by the case, so I do hope that as he’s now living close by, she continues to see him when she’s not so distracted. Once again, the focus seems to be more on Trinity and Josie. Trinity’s scene in the book is small but more detailed and emotionally engaging than the scene with Patrick. It’s nice to see the little moments with Lisette, Patrick, Trinity, and Misty. And I always like exploring the dynamic Josie has with her work family as well, how those relationships have grown and evolved over the series. Especially her relationship with Noah which is both professional and personal. I just sometimes wish the focus was more on those relationships and less so on Ray, who is Josie’s past and has been dead since book 1! Lisa Regan is a good writer, she is great at setting a sense of place, providing little details so you feel like you’re right there with the characters, and building the tension. I have never been involved in a flashflood but through her writing, I felt like I was right there in the boat with Josie, our hearts racing, watching the house get washed away. Man, I do have to say, this was such an edge-of-your-seat read. The adrenaline starts pumping and you can’t put this book down until you get to the end. Like the previous books in the series, this book is well written and engaging. And, as I always say, if you haven’t read the other books in the series you should start with book 1 and not book 9! Otherwise you miss out an all the growth and evolution the characters have been through. I would like to thank Netgalley for an advance copy of Save Her Soul by Lisa Regan. |
