Save Her Soul is the ninth instalment in the Detective Josie Quinn series, set in Denton, Pennsylvania. Historic flooding in Detective Quinn's hometown exposes a decades-old murder and a killer who will do anything to keep such deadly secrets buried. Denton is in a state of emergency due to some of the worst flooding ever experienced in the area and the stormy weather is causing chaos for residents. Josie and Detective Gretchen Palmer are attempting a daring rescue mission after Mrs Evelyn Bassett becomes trapped in her home due to the high floodwater and the local authorities have been called in to help. When a well-preserved corpse wrapped in a blue tarpaulin floats to the surface, seemingly from under the house that has just descended downstream, Josie fails to recognise the victim, a young woman who turns out to be Beverly Urban former school bully and all-round troublemaker, but she instantly recognises the jacket Beverly is wearing. It's part of the Denton East High School uniform and she realises this particular letterman baseball jacket belonged to her late ex-husband Ray Quinn. The case is about to become a little too personal.

This is a captivating, well-plotted and twisty police procedural with more than enough action taking place to keep your interest from waning. Josie must gather all the strength she can muster in order to try and treat the victim like any other and remain dedicated to solving the slaying despite the victim having possibly had an affair with her former husband and her bullying behaviour towards Josie in their schooldays. I was glued to the pages once it hooked me in after the first chapter or so and from then on it was a rollercoaster ride of emotion and surprises. It's gripping with an intense and fascinating plot and the fact it is told solely from Josie’s perspective makes this easy to follow and the story flows effortlessly from page to page. There's never a dull moment and it barely gives you a chance to breathe as the plot races onwards towards the twisty conclusion. Josie is a tough, determined and admirable protagonist and I enjoy learning more about her with each new book. An excellent addition to the series that features drama, suspense and tension aplenty. Many thanks to Bookouture for an ARC.

Detective Josie Quinn is helping with rescue efforts in the little town of Denton PA. Rain has been relentless as they find an old woman whose home is being wept away and a body, wrapped in a tarp, pops up shortly behind her.

The body turns out to be an old classmate of Josie’s. But worse, the body is wearing Josie’s high school boyfriend/ex-husband’s (now deceased) letterman jacket. It was thought the girl and her mother had moved—vanished. Beverly was a bully living with a disabled mother with whom she’d been known to have major disagreements.

Josie takes on the cold case, anxious to know the relationship between the girl and her ex, Ray. I appreciated Josie’s investigation with help from partner Detective Gretchen Palmer and her team, but occasional flashbacks to her high school years without preamble had me going back a page or two to get some continuity.

As the storyline increased in complexity, so too did details about Josie’s childhood increase—elevating her from damaged protagonist to basket-case dealing with one revelation after another.

The plot is fast-paced and well-plotted with twists and red herrings always making progress to the climax. The climax, however, doesn’t conclude the story. There is still more complications behind that with one final and soul-crushing surprise.

While I seriously enjoyed the mystery and the characterizations of the rich ladies’ clique and their thoroughly catty and believable dialogue, I’m also seriously tired of the damaged protagonist trope. Also, the clichés have me rolling my eyes. Pul-leeze don’t hit me with another “let out a breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding.”

Not thrilled with the clichés and tropes, I’ll come back every time to engaging writing style and intriguing characters. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review an advance copy of this one. 4.5/5

WooHoo, another fantastic addition to one of my favourite series and characters. I love Josie even more after each book and there are nine now. They just keep getting better and better!

Lisa Regan blows me away with each book with how Josie develops with each one. I love all the characters, and with each book, we see Josie grow and her relationships with the characters. I love all the characters and look forward to seeing them in each book.

The story starts off exciting and tense here as Josie is caught up in a flood and finds a body flooding. She soon discovers the body is connected to her past and what she finds rattles her soul and she left questioning everything she believes what makes her, her. I love it when we see more into Josie's past and see a raw, vulnerable side to her and here in this one, we are taken back to Josie's high school years with Ray. I love the connection between Josie and Ray and loved seeing more into their past. I was glued to the pages, my heart breaking for Josie and rooting that she doesn't lose herself.

The case is exciting with plenty of action, suspense and tension with some great twist and turn that had me tapping my kindle as fast as I could. As always Lisa Regan kept me guessing right up to the end and I loved everything about this story! I just can't get enough of Josie and the dynamics between her and the other characters. I highly recommend this series!

While reading this book, I had a very odd reaction. In Denton, they are dealing with a destructive flood that uncovers a long dead body. Meanwhile, I am reading during a week of 100F+ temperatures. I can't remember the last time it rained. Every time I picked the book back up, I had to reorient myself to their environment. It was something I had never felt before. What that means, I do not know. I think it means that Ms. Regan did a terrific job of immersing her readers into her environment. The mystery was well developed. I did have a bit of confusion mixing a few of the characters. Slowly they came into focus. I am really enjoying following the evolution of Josie's personal life and felt this book had a good balance between the two.

Wow wow wow! This next instalment in the Josie Quinn series does not disappoint. A flooded town, a body rising to the surface how much more eerie can you get! The body belongs to a girl Josie went to high-school with and she happens to be wearing a very familiar jacket. Is this case as close to Josie as it seems to be? Or is there more than meets the eye.
Delve into this gritty story with amazing characters and a seedy drug addled underbelly to Josies peaceful town.
This is a fast paced, hold on to your hat thriller start to finish. 5 stars! A must read!

Flooding is rampant in Josie Quinn's town. She spies a tarp and is sure there is a body underneath it. Risking life and limb, she struggles to grab it despite the sudden danger facing her. It is a body and Josie is utterly shocked when a jacket wrapped around the body of a girl is a jacket she knows quite well - it is the jacket of her dead ex-husband Ray. Either that or it is way too similar.

While rain and flooding show no signs of letting up, Jodie digs into the apparent murder. Josie is forced to look at her past - some good times, and some very bad times. As I have read all the previous books in this series, I have gotten to know Josie quite well. However, there are aspects of her life that come to light in this story. Josie must work backwards - all the way back to high school to track the jacket in order to try and find out who killed the girl.

While Josie contemplates her past, readers are reminded of her tragic history, the effects of her difficult marriage to Ray, and how her family is a strong part of her life. now. Meanwhile, Josie's relationship with Noah Fraley, a fellow officer, is going strong.

Josie often hits a brick wall in this case. There is a trio of women who have secrets and it is these very secrets that might hold the key for Josie solving this heinous crime. However, this presents danger to Josie, which is something that she is far too familiar with. This is a thrilling book for a wonderful series. I am hoping we have much more of Josie going forward.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC to review in exchange for my honest opinion.

By far this one is my favourite book in the series. I mean how can I not love a book which shows us an insight to Josie as a teenager. This is a hard case because it brings back a lot of memories for her. It also makes her doubt her past and I found that hard for Josie.

Denton is in trouble. It’s being flooded and a lot of the town is being submerged underwater. Josie and her team are on water rescue where Josie discovers a body floating in the water wrapped up in a tarp. The problem is the body is wearing Ray’s baseball jacket from High School dun dun dunnnnnnnnnn

With the town going underwater it just amplifies their isolation in the town. Not able to have access to all areas, with the town moving on since Beverly dying. The water cuts them off from everyone. It makes it more harrowing. It doesn’t help that this isolation adds to Josie and her demeanour. She is struggling with the events from the previous book, there’s a lot of anger and hurt. She is emotional and so when we learn about Ray, well it doesn’t bode well and she begins to question everything. She is put through the wringer and we are left asking,

Was Ray faithful to her? Or Ray ways starting in high school? Why was Beverley killed all those years ago?

There are so many questions but I couldn’t possibly list them all. I just know I had no idea how this would play out and we had a doozy of a red herring too. I completely flew through this book, it may be over 300 pages but it just felt it was only 5 pages. The ease of Lisa’s writing made you feel like you were in the investigation with the team. I felt like I was struggling in the water, tasting the dirty water, squelching through the town. Josie has to dig deep with this case, so emotions to face, I was feeling them with her. I didn’t want to believe that Ray had been up to something. He has such a presence in this book as if he was back and I felt Josie’s heartbreak all over again.

Gosh, I really don’t know what to say other than I loved it! It is a must-read in the series, we get an insight back to Josie and the forever shadow in her life and seeing her journey so far. Seeing things she goes through and how they apply to her now. Gah! Just read it! I need to talk about this book with someone!!!

This was the 100th book I read this year and it is one that is defo a contender for my book of the year.

This is the first book I read in this series and won't surely be the last as I wasn't able to put it down.
The author is a talented storyteller and this story is well written and gripping.
It mixes events from the past with events in the present, a cold case and a new murder.
The characters are well written and interesting. Josie, the MC, is a complex and damaged person that must face new events and things that can change her current mental balance.
There's a lot of character development and I appreciated the empathy of the author towards the victims.
The mystery is solid, full of twists and turns, and the solution came as a surprise.
Even if it's not the first in this series I had no issues with the plot or the characters even if I want to read the previous instalment as I want to learn something more of the character history.
An excellent thriller, highly recommended.
Many thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

Another great book in this fantastic series.
We get to know Josie more in this book and learn about her and Ray when they were teenagers in some flashback chapters.
The book begins with a body being washed up in the floods and Josie soon identifies the body as being a girl she was at school with.
It seems she was murdered 17 years ago but Josie and the team need to find out why.
Someone gets in touch with Josie and having knowledge of how the girl was killed, Josie agrees to meet her but disaster strikes before she can get any information from her, so it seems they’re back to square one.
When it all comes together for Josie the story moves at a very fast pace and soon we know why these murders took place.
This is a gripping crime thriller that I devoured in one day!
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

This is the ninth book in the Josie Quinn series, but these can be read as standalones.

I love this series so much! Josie is a character that is just so easy to root for. She is kick-ass but she also has a softer side. We saw a lot more of that softer side in this book. It was really nice to see that the indestructible Josie is human after all. Josie really goes through the wringer in this one and I wanted to just give her the biggest hug. Her whole life seemed to be crumbling around her once again and I felt like she just needed one.

This story was full of twists and turns. Lisa does a great job of building up the tension and when you think you have it figured out she pulls the rug out from under you. I love the pace. The story had me hooked from the opening page and I really struggled to put it down.

Being back in the world of Josie Quinn is a place that really does make me happy. Well as happy as crime novel does! I love all the side characters and how much they have grown since the first book. I hope that there will be another book because I don't think I am quite done with these characters yet.

“Save Her Soul” is the ninth book in this series set in Denton, Pennsylvania. I have read the three books immediately preceding this one, but that’s not necessary to enjoy the book. The books are a combination police procedural/thriller. This installment begins with a dramatic rescue of an elderly woman whose rental house is being overtaken by flood waters. Before the boat leaves, the house collapses revealing what appears to be a dead body. In spite of the danger, Detective Josie Quinn insists they go back for the body which launches a murder investigation that hits a little too close to home.

Most of the book focuses on the current murder investigation, which is revealed to have taken place several years ago. The victim has a possible tie to Josie’s deceased ex-husband Ray, so many of the chapters are flashbacks to when Josie and Ray were dating in high school. In addition to the current stress of solving the case, the investigation brings back memories of past trauma in Josie’s life. The usually stoic Josie becomes reckless and emotional. One of the people Josie speaks to during the investigation is a psychologist who offers to speak to Josie further, and I hope she takes her up on that in future books. In the meantime, I like how Detective Gretchen Palmer supports Josie as both a colleague and a friend throughout the book even when she disagrees with her. Josie’s boyfriend Noah, who also works for the Denton Police Department with Josie, is also wonderfully supportive of Josie’s fond memories of Ray.

I like that Josie fought so hard to get justice for the victim with whom she had an unpleasant history. She refuses to give up on the investigation even though many of the potential witnesses are no longer around. The case gets complicated, but I was able to guess some of the twists. Others were unexpected and really surprised me, especially one of the developments in Josie’s personal life. Josie is a character I have come to care about and I look forward to reading more in this excellent series.

I received this ebook from NetGalley through the courtesy of Bookouture. An advance copy was provided to me at no cost, but my review is voluntary and unbiased.

Lots of secrets in small town Denton, many of which are dredged up when horrible rains wash up the body of Beverly, a troubled teen who went missing years ago. Detective Josie Quinn knew Beverly, and worse, knows the jacket on her body belonged to Josie's dead ex Ray. Josie's got a mess on her hands, especially since, well, no spoilers from me. This is a new to me but long running series and I found Josie to be a good , engaging character who pushes into areas she might personally prefer to see kept closed. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A fast, entertaining read and I'll look for more in the series.

In a flooded city, a house is knocked off its foundation. A long buried body is found floating. Josie and Gretchen are now trying to figure out who killed this teen.
It’s very hard to do, since so many years have passed. Josie is starting to feel the frustrations.
I actually enjoyed reading this book. It had some mystery and lots of dram.
Overall, a decent read.
Many thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Lisa Regan's Josie Quinn series is best read in order for character development. Book 9 is filled with all the usual components of a good crime thriller that we have come to expect from this author. Fast paced, filled with tension and well written makes this one of the best crime series around. An excellent summer read which i would recommend. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

Another brilliant book in the Josie Quinn series. They are all just as great as each other. Plenty of suspense to keep me reading long into the night as I couldn’t put it down but I also didn’t want the book to end. I love the relationship between the main characters, it works so well. Although it can be read as a stand-alone it would be better to read from book one so you can understand the characters back story better. I love all of the books so bring on the next one.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Save Her Soul, the ninth novel to feature Detective Josie Quinn of the Denton, Pennsylvania Police Department.

Denton is flooded and the storm is wreaking havoc when a body wrapped in a tarpaulin floats to the surface. Although the remains are well preserved Josie doesn’t recognise the female victim but she certainly recognises the jacket she’s wearing as it belonged to her high school sweetheart and former husband, Ray Quinn.

I thoroughly enjoyed Save Her Soul which is a thrilling read with an interesting plot. It is told entirely from Josie’s point of view so the reader can dive right in and get immersed quickly. I was hooked from the start and didn’t put it down until I finished it. I liked the highs and lows of the novel from the initial rescue of the corpse to the final twist in the resolution via all sorts of action scenes and an emotional rollercoaster for Josie. There is never a dull moment.

Poor Josie never catches a break in her personal life. Ok, she has the very loving and supportive Lieutenant Noah Fraley for a boyfriend and some good friends but the past never leaves her alone. In this case the victim is Beverley Urban, her high school nemesis who always claimed to be having an affair with Ray. Is that why she had his jacket? And the hits keep coming as she gets a shock in her family life. Josie has survived a lot but this is the closest she has come to breaking. I’m not applauding it but it’s reassuring to know that even superwomen can bow to pressure.

Save Her Soul is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

Save Her Soul is the 9th story in the Josie Quinn series by Lisa Regan. This is a stand alone book that Ms Regan's fans will love, and anyone new to the series will want to read book 1, Vanishing Girls. In Save Her Soul readers learn more about Josie's past as she is currently working on a cold case. As always I'm left with wanting more and looking forward to the next book. I want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an early copy to review.

I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Save Her Soul’, nineth in the Detective Josie Quinn series written by Lisa Regan, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Denton is experiencing the worst flooding in the town’s history and Detectives Josie Quinn and Gretchen Palmer are in a boat rescuing Mrs Evelyn Bassett from her house. As it slides off its foundations into the river Josie sees something wrapped in blue tarpaulin come away from the foundations and float past them. She risks her own life by jumping into the floodwater to retrieve the tarpaulin which is found to contain the mummified body of a young women wearing the Denton East High School uniform and Josie’s late-husband Ray’s prized baseball jacket. The body is identified as Beverley Urban, Josie’s arch-enemy at school who always bragged about having a relationship with Ray behind Josie’s back, and she has to put her own feelings to one side to find out what happened to the girl.

‘Save Her Soul’ is a gripping thriller with a unique storyline and is a welcome addition to the series. It’s action-packed with lots of drama, suspense and twists and turns, and it’s good to catch up with Josie, Noah, Gretchen and Mett who’ve become like old friends. The story moves between 2004 when Josie was at high school to the present time and the way the two time periods are woven into the story makes for compelling reading. I didn’t find it as exciting as the previous books in the series and the conclusion slightly confused me due to the number of characters involved, although that is purely my opinion, but it’s nonetheless a well-written and exciting thriller and I’ve enjoyed reading it.
