Now, how do i describe Paige Toons new book. one word captivating, It draws you in, makes you feel like you are a fly on the wall for the whole experience. Cannot help but love every minute of this book. I dont know how i even can describe this book. Just one giant hug with friends in a book. |
I downloaded this book as an audible copy and listened to it each day as i went walking. I have every read or heard of Paige Toon previously. I enjoyed this book but I am not sure why Hannah kept persisting with Sonny at he beginning as he seemed pretty rude and dull.. Overall I enjoyed listening to the book and the all was well in the end. Thanks to Paige Toon, here publisher and Netgalley for the ARC. |

Thanks for the opportunity to read this. It’s my first novel by this author and certainly won’t be my last |
Unfortunately, I was slow in downloading this story and it was archived before I had the chance. I'm sure it is a wonderful read. |
A perfect Paige Toon novel and one I enjoyed a lot! I had never listened to one of her novels before as I usually enjoy reading them on the way to work but I was glad to trial the NetGalley audiobook app for the first time. I found the narration to be set at a good pace and I liked the narrator's voice as it suited Hannah very well. They also included good inflections for emphasis and emotion which I appreciated, as some audiobooks can be quite monotone. The book itself was really heartfelt and enjoyable, with the opening chapter (which i had previously received a sample advance read of a few months ago) catching my attention immediately. I wanted to know more about the mysterious new guy in town Sonny and to find out what issues burdened him, as well as how the two main characters relationship would develop. I will recommend this book to friends who love touching and thought-provoking relationship stories, as well general chick lit. I always enjoy Paige Toon's writing and I am glad I had the opportunity to read this one, thanks to NetGalley and the publisher. |
I adored this audiobook! I couldn't it listening to it. Its beautifully written and the story is heartfelt. We meet Hannah who works in an Opticians, 2 weeks in she meets Sonny and she instantly thinks there is a spark, when she next meets him things aren't the same and she can't work out why. Fate puts them together through friends and we go on the up and down journey with them and their past troubles. I really enjoyed this book and will definitely recommend it. I'll definitely be looking put for more Paige Toon books too. |

Another fantastic book form Paige Toon! When Hannah meets Sonny, there is an instant spark but both are dealing with their troubled histories and vow to stay friends. The story has a few unexpected plot lines that elevate this book from a standard rom-com to a more emotional and thought-provoking story about two people learning to trust each other and move forward with their lives. This is my first audio book review for NetGalley and I was very impressed by the narrator. I found she set the right tone for Hannah and really brought the story to life. She was also able to give personality to the other characters and I found it to be a well-rounded narration. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a free e-copy of this audio book in exchange for my honest opinion. |
Not only was this my first Paige Toon but my first audio book as well. Once I had got my head around being read to I was hooked on the story and loved it all the way through. A perfect story for the summer I can’t wait to read more by this author. 4.5 stars. |
If you didn't cry when reading this, your lying 🤣. What a beautiful story of love and trust. Can't recommend enough! Now a Paige Toon fan, after reading this. |
Wow, I was not expecting those revelations! The narration was wonderful, she had a voice I could listen to for hours, and happily did! This was so much more than 'chick lit' and it will stay with me for a long time. The characters were deep, complicated and so so likeable. The reasons behind Sonny and Hannah's past were so well executed! Thank you! |
I've always loved Paige Toon and this book is no different - a lovely, uplifting story for trying times. The narrator was fab - sometimes dialogue got mixed up with narration, but only sometimes. I really enjoyed this as an audiobook and would recommend. |
The Minute I saw you by Paige Toon This is my first audiobook review! The only audiobooks I’ve really managed to listen to are the Harry Potter series which I loved narrated by Stephen Fry! Heather Long did not disappoint with the narration! I love her voice, and she really captured my attention and drew me into the story! We follow Hannah and Sonny, both with secrets in their pasts that they are struggling to over come, and with Sonny taking a vow of celibacy for 6 months the two of them grow as friends and both start to heal from events in their pasts as they draw closer together. This story had me blubbering, laughing and just so intrigued to find out what would happen next! 5/5 ⭐️ for the book 5/5 ⭐️ for the narration Recommend ✅ #paigetoon #theminuteisawyou #heatherlong #audiobook #bookworm #book #reader #listener #thereisalwaystimeforbooks #bookdragon #netgalley #bookreview |
I was kindly given this on NetGalley as they now do audiobooks, audiobooks isn’t really my thing as I prefer to read the pages so I thought I would really struggle with this. Surprisingly I didn’t. The narrator was very witty and put a lot of effort into capturing the characters personalities. Although I didn’t enjoy this as much as previous Paige Toon's novels I still felt a rush to find out what was going to happen next. This story is about hurt, heartbreak, and what they can do to a person. And how they could lead to love. It really is a fabulous story and I definitely recommend it & I look forward to more of Paige's books. OUT TOMORROW! (06/08) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ |
There was an intense amount of depth to the two main characters in this book, and it was really nice to read a romance novel that really focused on the characters and their problems before the emphasis on their attraction to each other. There was a lot of intense feeling to unpick, so definitely don't enter into this one lightly! When Hannah meets Sonny, and looks into his eyes during an eye appointment, she feels an instant spark of connection. And, judging by his behaviour, he feels it too. However, the next time she sees him, he's completely different, downcast and miserable. She's not sure what went wrong. But they bump into each other again and he reveals that he has had a shock, and is working through some things. Hannah and Sonny become friends, and agree that although there is attraction, neither of them are ready to do anything about it - they each have a lot of their own stuff to sort out first. What really worked well here was the depth of backstory to both Hannah and Sonny. They have both experienced their own traumas, but have found ways to work around them, or just plain ignore them. After a shock event forces Sonny to recognise his own past, Hannah begins to heal in a much more healthy way than she has before (and I can assure you, this is a lot more heavy content than coming out of a rough relationship). A lot of consideration has gone into this - issues around eye contact, nudity and commitment - all of which have clear reasoning. It's definitely not light and frothy for either Hannah or Sonny, but was good to read something that was actually serious about what had happened in the main characters' pasts. More importantly, Hannah doesn't act like she can't cope. It's not really apparent until around halfway through this book that anything has happened to her. She's a little withdrawn, prefers an unsettled lifestyle and as such doesn't really have any close friends. But only as she begins to support Sonny through his own problems, does she begin to realise that there may be a more healthy way to deal with her own. It's also really nice to read something where yes, there clearly is attraction between the two characters, but they prioritise support and friendship in a very endearing way, which becomes the foundation of of a healthy and unlooked-for relationship. Heather Long has a very calming voice who copes well with the strong, clear voice of Hannah, as well as the other characters. She was a very soothing narrator who gave a level of realism to some of the difficult issues discussed in this book without making them contrite. The story itself is a little languorous - it could definitely be shorter, and there are a lot of detailed descriptions of scenery and meaningful looks, but they do add up to a pleasantly heavy romance. I received an ALC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. |
Unfortunately I have been unable to download or listen to this title. NetGalley are working to find the problem so if I am able to get the audiobook, I will leave a thorough review and rating on Goodreads. Rated 3 stars for fairness. |
I listened to this on audio. I enjoyed this book spoken from the main characters point of view, which I like with just one narrator as to not get confused between characters. You are left guessing for the first half of the book as to who exactly she will end up with in the end. This isn’t just your regular romance, the story touches on some sensitive issues and is deeper than just a love story. The narration was very good, clear and concise with a nice tone. |
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a free audio version of this book in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed this book a lot more than I thought I would, as I don't read much contemporary romance. The narrator was fantastic, and did some wonderful acting with her voice. There was some brilliant character development in the beginning, and I really started to root for Hannah from the first few chapters. Learning more and more about Hannah, and Sonny, and their troubled pasts was absolutely intriguing and I just wanted to know more. The romance I found very, very slow and dragged out. There were times where I thought the book could have been so much shorter as parts could have been left out. However, I did really appreciate the fact that we really got to know Hannah and Sonny before their romance fully blossomed. I also found the narrator's male character voice quite jarring at first, but I got used to it and actually enjoyed the fact that the narrator could act as so many different characters. I would recommend looking for trigger warnings with this book, but I don't want to include them in this review as they could be seen as spoilers! |
4.5 stars! I listened to an ARC of this book. The narrator does a great job but I don’t think there’s any advantage over reading it, it’s just down to personal preference. When I started this, I thought it was going to be a nice, easy, chic lit kind of read. And yeah, it is those things but a whole lot more! ... There’s more depth to the characters. Past traumas and events are discussed and explored and not only by the two main characters, HannaH and Sonny. I enjoyed the dynamic of the friendships, the one character’s children and bonus points for the inclusion of a dog (wins me over every time!). Oh and I loved the village setting. But most of all, I appreciated our two protagonists, how they bravely bared the good, the bad and the ugly and focused on working on themselves before jumping into something else. One of my biggest annoyances in a book, actually two of my bug bears, is when characters don’t communicate and when one being with the other magically cures all of their issues! Grr. But that was not a problem here, Paige Toon wrote honest and realistic characters who are forcing themselves to share and communicate more effectively. If you can’t tell, I enjoyed it 😉 I received a copy of this audiobook from Netgalley and the publishers in exchange for an honest review. These opinions are my own. |
The Minute I Saw You is the ultimate summer read. It has the sweet romance, the lovable characters, the strong narrative, and all the feels! The story begins when Hannah meets Sonny. Hannah is a dispensing optician in Cambridge. One day, Sonny arrives in the shop as one of her customers. The connection between them is instant. Not just a surface level crush, but a heart-stopping connection. Their first moments feel deeper than a standard meet cute. But when Hannah sees Sonny for a second time, everything is different. He’s not charming or flirty, but distant and cold. Still, a friendship grows between the two, with their natural chemistry acting for them. Before you know it, you’re rooting for these characters. I really like the protagonists in this novel. Both Hannah and Sonny are very authentic personalities. They have good days and bad, they struggle with the idea of not being ‘normal’ and their individual pasts weight them down. The secondary characters are also a huge support to the overall story, fleshing out the side plots and adventures. Even the smallest of roles felt relevant to the narrative. I always know a book is good when I feel like I miss the characters. And because you get to know each of these voices so well, it really is saddening when the story reaches its end. The Minute I Saw You definitely has the characteristics of a slow burn. But like most books with this trope, it’s well worth the wait. The dynamic between Hannah and Sonny is established from the beginning and tensions only begin to build as the chapters go on. This is an incredibly difficult book to review, because it has so many secrets. The backstories of the characters bring so much to this read. I was expecting a light, summery, novel. And this is great in that sense. But it also has so much weight and emotion, it became a pleasantly unanticipated complex read. Every single time I thought I knew where this story was going, it totally shocked me. However, every twist, even the emotional ones, contributed to the entertaining plot. I didn’t see the backstories of the characters coming at all, but they really layered the story. This book feels like more than a romance. It’s a poignant love story. It’s humorous and moving, an ideal combination for a compelling summer read. It dives beyond the surface and explores loss, trauma and heartache. Paige Toon’s writing has always had a heart-warming quality and The Minute I Saw You is no different. In fact, it might be my favourite Toon book yet. |
My first experience of a Net Galley audiobook and I would have to say that I enjoyed the experience. I liked the narrator's voice which brought the story of Hannah and Sonny to life. We all hide things, but Hannah and Sonny both have events from their past, that caused them a lot of distress and grief. Eventually they confide in one another. They start off as friends, but will their relationship change. Highly enjoyable. |
