I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. I really enjoyed this book. Perfect for romance fans who love period settings books.

A delightfully charming book reminiscent of the television series 'Heartbeat' but set in an earlier era with more kick in the plot. Plausible, interesting well-defined characters. Thank you to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton.

This was a lovely refreshing read. Very heartwarming and charming. I read this book so quickly, wanting to know what would happen next.
This book was part of a series but is easy to read as a stand-alone (like I did) I honestly recommend this for anyone that enjoys historical fiction.
I will be looking out for more books by Anna Jacobs

Another great read from Anna J. I just loved Frankie, she was another if Anna's strong women who was determined to fight for her independence and survival against her over bearing, bitter mother. Her poor father was bullied by that woman but thankfully he was helped to survive too.

As with all Anna's books I found the characters so believable and was able to relate to the location of the book, being from Lancashire myself.

I read this as a stand alone but will read the others in the Birch End series.

Thankyiu Anna and Netgalley for another great read!

Refreshingly sweet, heartwarming and charming, this story was the perfect light read today. It is immersive and gentle with interesting characters, some despicable, others lovely. I enjoyed the story itself. The end came too quickly!

Frankie Redfern, an independent woman with the occupation of cabinet maker, highly unusual in 1935 Lancashire, meets Jericho Harte while enjoying the peaceful escape of the moors. They are immediately comfortable together in their mutual love for the outdoors.

Frankie contentedly works with her father, with whom she has a close bond. On the other hand, her mother harbors bitterness and hate. Like Frankie, Jericho is accustomed to hard work.

The day after Frankie and Jericho meet, she has a surprising proposition...that they quickly marry. Jericho is shocked but for reasons she explains and knowing her upright reputation, agrees. The process isn't exactly without issues. Frankie's father also becomes critically ill.

Historical Fiction and General Fiction readers, please seek this out. My first experience reading Anna Jacobs was wonderful so my next step is to read her other books. Her writing style is simple in a warm way and she breathes reality into the characters in that they are imperfect, as they should be.

The treats at the end are sweet!

My sincere thank you to Hodders & Stoughton and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this delightful book in exchange for an honest review. Much appreciated.

This was a quick read for me as I was eager to know how things turned out for all the characters involved. There were many people in the book that I immediately warmed to and liked and also a fairly large group of villainous ones who were out to harm our leading lady, Frankie, not least of all her evil, scheming and dangerous mother. She hates Frankie and is jealous of her daughter’s independent nature and skills as a cabinet maker, an unusual occupation for a woman in 1930’s Lancashire. Suspicious of his wife’s intentions, Frankie’s father makes her promise him that if anything should happen to him, she will marry as quickly as possible to avoid her mother’s malicious scheme to have her committed. Frankie and a young man she met by chance embark on a marriage of convenience but their lives are constantly in danger as they are pursued constantly by various nefarious people employed by the mother to cause them harm. This constant threat, and their efforts to remain safe, drive the plot along at a fair pace. With Frankie’s father in hospital suffering a mysterious illness Frankie has to juggle her stress about him with her own fears of what her mother may do next and the setting up of her new home with her husband. It was definitely a bumpy ride with lots going on and overall a very good read. I did find some parts a bit hard to believe and the ending, although nicely done could leave the story open for more…. My thanks to Netgalley and Hodder & Stoughton for an early copy of this book in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Anna Jacobs is a heart warming writer with a great mix of characters and storyline.

I didn't realise when starting the book that it was part of series, but this really didn't matter as it was easily read as a stand alone.

A captivating, easy to read story with a great mix of characters and plots.

I normally check if a book is part of a series but for some reason I didn't for this one. When I did remember to look I found it was third in a series.

I had read other series by Anna Jacobs set in the fictional Ellindale Valley and really enjoyed them - so much so I actually made sure I had the whole series.
But it didn't matter with this story that I hadn't known the characters before. I could follow the story and enjoyed meeting the characters and finding out their back story.

I never write a synopsis of a book in one of these reviews as I would hate to spoil a book for another reader - and this will be no exception.
As is common with the authors style there was poverty and plenty within the community. There was a love story, and in this case a female villain and also a male character that is was very very easy to dislike.

My only downside was that I had got that I only had 6% of the book left to read and I could not see how the story could end in that little timeframe - but of course it did. But with so little left it felt rushed.
It was left that there could be another part but equally the story finished.

All in all this was a lovely read.

Thank you to the publisher for the chance to read this advance copy and of course thank you to Anna Jacobs

I was engrossed in this book from the beginning. I absolutely loved the way that Anna portrayed all of the characters. I would highly recommend this brilliant book as it will make you want to keep reading until the final page. I’m also feeling disappointment today because I won’t be eager to read my book today because unfortunately I’ve finished reading it last night. I’m really looking forward to Anna’s next book. Thank you for enabling me to read and review this book I would highly recommend it especially if you enjoy reading books by Catherine Cookson, Dilly Court etc.

Anna Jacobs has done it again! Now, I will admit that I am already a fan of her work, so I already knew that I would love this book. But even I was surprised by how well written and well plotted ‘A Woman’s Promise’ turn out to be.

To be fair, I’ve not actually read that many of Anna Jacobs previous books, although I did recently devour the entirety of the Kershaw sister series in just a few short days. But I can already see that she is one of those authors who is just meant to write, and all of her stories are so distinct and imaginative, something which can be hard to find when considering books of this genre.

I was also surprised by how little it mattered that I hadn’t read the previous books in the series. This is something I’ve found with her previous work too - whilst having read the other books in the series will certainly add to your enjoyment, it doesn’t matter at all if you’ve not read them. Case in point - this books is the third in a series, and I at no point was in any way affected by not having read the others (although I’m planning to anyway!).

All in all, a wonderful book, exactly what you’d expect from an author of this standard. She is one of those rare authors who continually writes really good and enjoyable books, and I recommend this one wholeheartedly.

Disclaimer - I was fortunate enough to receive an advance reading copy of this book from the publisher in conjunction with NetGalley. This has not affected my review in any way, and all opinions are my own

Another great instalment in this series. Anna Jacobs brings her characters to life and imbues the story with warmth. Loved it.

This ties in nicely with the other two books in the series. It would work as a stand-alone I guess but I’m glad I’d read the other two as it made much more of an impact

This is captivating, read it in no time as I could hardly put it down. It’s got everything, people you recognise instantly, lovely new characters and what book would be complete without the usual smattering of bad guys. Frankie sounds such a lovely independent person without her troubles to seek. By equal measures Mrs Redfern sounds just as evil.

Love it when the old characters pop up like old friends, you just know it will be safe with them around. Sergeant Deemer is a favourite, does he get his extra constable ?

Worthy of all ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ And I’d definitely recommend it.

Thanks to Net Galley for granting me this book. Book 3 of the series - I have read and enjoyed the previous two. This book was extremely enjoyable and based on Frankie Redfern, the only female cabinet maker in 1935. Her mother is an absolutely awful person who makes her life a misery and her dad’s too.. She faces prejudice from the village originally and life is pretty tough. However there are lots of twists and turns in her new life and following a marriage of convenience to Jericho things are on the up. Would recommend this book which easily follows on from the previous two and is a lovely read.

This whole series of books from Anna Jacobs has been a pleasure to read. The story line is strong and enjoyable and Frankie is a firm believer in the right to choose your own way in life and to take a risk.
