I may be biased, but I freaking loved this book. It is meant to be fun, and not take itself too seriously. A madcap adventure rom-com, reminiscent of Romancing the Stone, but in book form. |

I received a copy of this book to review from Netgallry. Thank you for the opportunity. A fun and modern story with an interesting idea behind the story. The writing is good. However, at times the MC was too entitled and unlikeable which drew the reader away from the story. The story gets a little wild and over the top which kinda of stretches the contemporary romance theme On the whole, an OK read. |
Was this seriously a romance novel I liked? So, when I read the synopsis of this book, I just knew I had to read it. I don’t read much romance but I like to read one in a while. The synopsis promises adventure, diversity, heart stopping romance and in addition to that there were many emotions! Exit Through the Jungle is one of the best contemporary/rom-com's I've read in so long. It was adorable, endearing, and made me laugh out loud more than once. I loved the modern day, influencer type of story line, and it was so much fun to read! It's modern, addicting and it strikes a balance between quick witted banter and heart warming realness. The writing is very accessible and easy to read. after reading a few pages, my kindle app showed that I need 4 hours to finish it so I finished it fairly quickly and I would be reading for an hour without realizing that. The book is not very lyrical, so there was not many quotes that I highlighted but at the same time, I prefer this for a contemporary story. I believe this book will be fairly successful when it comes out. I don’t have much to criticize, I liked the characters, the plot and the writing. If you are looking for a diverse, then this one is for you! |
This is a fun romance book that's the perfect escapist beach read, You'll love the setting, characters, and the light on social media Croften sheds in the story. Many thanks to NetGalley and Three Dimples Publishing for the advance copy. |
Although this book has already been published, I have originally received this as an ARC. I usually am reading dark/thriller books so this cute romance book was a nice change. Jodie, the protagonist, has a relatable job in this current world as an influencer/blogger. However, a lot of the things that happened in the book was too unreal/cheesy for me. (ex: getting lost in the jungle with a hot male with a chiseled body, encountering a jaguar, and overall getting away with lots of things that seemed too much). If you enjoy cute romances, this might be the book for you! Overall, I liked it as an escape from the current event going around me in the real world! |
Exit Through The Jungle By Alicia Crofton Rating: 3.5 / 5 Stars Publication Date: 8/29/2020 ** Thank you to Netgalley, Three Dimples Publishing, and of course, Alicia Crofton, for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I LOVE these types of rom-com reads for the summer so this book came at a perfect time for me. I finished it in one sitting! Who doesn’t love Costa Rica for a setting? I finished this book in one day! :) Exit is part love story, but more adventure - which I loved. It provided the main core theme of finding yourself, which is one of my favorites. Our main character is Jolie, a stubborn, creative, and hard worker - and can I say, incredibly likable for the main character. Her goal is to bring her business to fruition, a deal she makes with her dad - or she needs to return and work for him. We also have Kai, a worrier, who is the carrier of his family. He deals with their burdens as if they are his own. When these two come together, we get a delightful rom-com you won’t be able to put down. Crofton is an excellent writer as well. I enjoyed her plot and her dialogue was perfectly written. The Characters are well represented too, and you find them being two you root for! As this is a new series, I look forward to what is next and how we see these novels mesh! |
Exit Through the Jungle by Alicia Crofton . . ⭐⭐⭐⭐ . . Social Media Influencer Jolie Boulard is living the good life - in front of the camera. In actuality her personal brand is struggling, sponsors are dropping her without warning and she's completely broke. In a desperate attempt to rebrand she decides to become vegan and books herself a retreat in Costa Rica. Things are going well until on a shopping trip she accidentally witnesses a crime and is thrown into a van. Kidnapped and taped to a chair she finds herself at the mercy of the three men. But not all of the men seem to be happy about the situation and one in particular seems sympathetic to her plight. Somehow she manages to get him to agree to help her and they find themselves on the run and lost in the jungles of Costa Rica. . . I know it seems like I just told y'all about the whole dang book, but in reality that is just the first couple chapters! There is so much going on, blackmail, organized crime, forbidden romance, eco conservation and more. I really loved the dual narration in this book, it added so much dimension to the story and to the characters. . . This would make an amazing movie. Definitely consider checking this one! . . Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book to read and review, all opinions are my own. |
This book was super good. It was super original and I flew through it. It didn't feel like anything I've read in the past. Can't wait to read more from the author!! |
I requested this title because the description reminded me of Romancing the Stone and I loved that movie when I was a kid. It did not disappoint me, Exit Through the Jungle was such a fun read! I adored Kai, he was such a lovable hero and even though him and his brothers technically kidnapped Jolie you really could not hold that against him. I loved Jolie's growth throughout the book, seeing her grow from a woman who became vegan just to stay relevant on Instagram to working for a non-profit was wonderful! Can't wait to see what happens in book 2! |

How relatable is this character? On social media she's perfect, in real life, there are damages and issues and REAL LIFE. Throw a jungle and a man into the mix and you've got an exciting, read in a day book. There's more to come as there is book 1 in the series! Can't wait for more |
The romance/adventure premise of this book was fun, but the setting in Costa Rica was so vague that I never felt it was a real part of the setting. Lots of places can be hot and humid, but that doesn't say anything unique about Costa Rica. The drug cartel story line also made me wonder why that story line considering Costa Rica has historically been a very safe country in Central America. And then, every time a character says something in Spanish it is conveyed completely in English followed by some from of "he said in Spanish." So, my question is: Why bother with a beautiful setting if it only serves as a mostly neutral backdrop with some added flavor for a flimsy stereotype? I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. |
Exit through the Jungle follows Jolie, an influencer that after a few down months is rebranding her online presence and chose to begin her journey in Costa Rica. This story was made up of a convoluted story that was so pulled in so many directions it ended up being super messy. There were a lot of storylines that I would have been interested in delving in to, but instead none were fully developed because there was way too much going on. |
This was great. Felt slightly ridiculous at times but the characters were likeable and it helped me escape reality for an afternoon. |
I want to thank her for being part of the #streetteam & #netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review The #exitthroughthejungle was a major success! We managed to see the rural sites of Costa Rica. We learned about #sloths and got into a whole load of trouble! What more could you want in a holiday? It was shocking to discover reading this book in 24 hours! I wasn't expecting the read to be so easy and joyful. Well not for the characters! Jolie and Kai's relationship had bloomed into a strong, modern bond despite their bad luck at the beginning Crofton had originally scripted for Jolie to be a vegan but changed it to a healthy food influencer, seeming undifferentiated. What do you think? Does it highlight the ignorance of understanding Veganism or raise awareness to being healthy? She references J.A.R in Costa Rica.A huge issue of Animal Cruelty which needs more funding! Her good cause made us self conscious like the characters but engaged and entertained. The only downfall was Trip coming into the scene but Crofton had to make Kai fight for something new so it made sense. We would actually class this as a #youngadult book but the detailed love scenes are too damn hot. |
This one wasn't great for me unfortunately. The romance-adventure aspect/premise for this book fell a bit short for me and the high hopes that I had, but it was still a well written and easy read! Thanks! |
This is a short story and it was an easy read. Jolie and Kai relationship kinda flat. I don't feel the romance here or the connection. I don't feel any spark or even excitement reading this book. I just wanted to finish this book and done with it. I don't like Jolie duh I mean when they get lost in the jungle she was mad when Kai don't want to have sex with her like wtf girl?? Why do you have to act like that? Goshhh Thank you Netgalley, publisher and author for this ARC! |
The premise of Exit Through the Jungle is a typical rom-com: people meet in unusual circumstances and fall in love. It should work but there are too many problematic moments in the book for the reader to really get into it. Jolie is an Instagram influencer, forever on the hunt for the perfect shot. But her brand is waning and she needs a shot of cash to make it work. This means going to her dad to ask for a loan. He’s skeptical but agrees with the stipulation that she’s written out of his will if she can’t succeed. Kai is settling his dad’s coffee estate and is the only sensible one of his brothers. This isn’t so bad but things escalate quickly: there are drugs and cartels; kidnapping and a botched robbery that are all on the doorstep of Kai and his brothers. That there is any kind of redemption of these men seems like it’s really stretching the bounds of reality. Exit Through the Jungle tries really hard to shock the reader but it ends up being a mess. Jolie’s love of animals and her push to remain independent from her father still doesn’t make the reader want her to succeed. And Kai is supposed to be a good guy, except that he aids and abets some of the most troubling decisions in the book. Hopefully, the author does better in the next book. |
To be honest, I thought this book was a little to stockholm at first. But then, it turned into a sweet romance, with edge-of-your-seat action. Once I got into it, I couldn’t put it down. Loved this cute novel! I received an Advanced Readers Copy from NetGalley but all views are my own. |
I was kindly gifted an advance readers copy from Three Dimples Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I’m a day late in finishing this one so the book did actually release yesterday. When I first heard about this one I was reminded of On the Island by Tracey Garvis Graves, a couple stranded in an inhabitable environment while tension builds between the two of them. It was right up my alley, I had high expectations of the romance, but it wasn’t as I expected. I was surprised at how the book started, I was expecting some sort of holiday gone wrong but it was more exciting than that. It started quite slow with a slow build of the background of both characters, both which interwind quite well. I was concerned that I wouldn’t like Jolie’s character as she was quite self centred at the beginning but I did grow to like her as the book went on. I was surprised at how little of the book was set in the jungle itself, since its the main plot and what the book is named after, I liked the romance but felt it was quite quick to develop, it was almost from nothing to everything, there was some slow burn but not an awful lot from what you would expect from a romance novel. I did find the ending quite abrupt, the build up of Kai’s background didn’t really get resolved, rather it felt like things were wrapped up quickly to get it out the way. Overall I did enjoy it, I wished there was more build up to the romance and maybe more plot centred about the actual jungle. So I’d give this one 4/5 stars. |
This was a quick, light and summer-orientated read with a rom-com feel. It took a rich, entitled instagrammer/influencer Jolie, on a journey to Costa Rica and eventually humanised her into a more grounded person. She was a bit vapid but still entertaining. Then came an accidental kidnapping (yes, I did say that) which was rather funny and Kai found himself landed with Jolie running through the jungle to escape some drug dealers. These two had fun chemistry and the story was engaging. This wasn't a deep read, it didn't require a lot concentration and so its great for the beach. I would have enjoyed a bit more in terms of story development and longer connection. Thank you to Three Dimples Publising for the early review copy. |
