would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this amazing book

dragons, witches, magic, and supernaturals..whats not to like about this book

the pet dragon...oh i want a pet dragon and this one is so adorable and called willow

there is black magic around caused by some very bad witches that have arrived secretly in new orleans, they are siphoning off blood from the supernaturals around them trying to gain power to eventually overthrow the alpha and take over

dallas is a good witch but she had been raised by her a coven of witches that was led by her mother who was using black magic, as soon as she was able she ran away and ended up in new orleans but she used her powers of witchcraft for good and with her skills she was helping the alpha to bring new orleans back to some order

and with her dragon willow and rhys who was looking for the catta the evil witch that had killed his younger sister and taken her powers..the only thing is dallas hasnt told rhys that he is hunting her mother and will the truth turn him against her...

brilliantly written and cant fault this book at all,it follows on from the previous book and can be read as a stand alone...i want a baby dragon...
cant wait for the next book in this brilliant series

Ancient dragon shifter Rhys has awoken from his century long hibernation. Time has not dulled his thirst for vengeance against the witch who killed his sister. He tracks the witch to New Orleans but instead finds himself enthralled by a beautiful woman, who is also a witch.

I quite enjoyed this book. Rhys was mentioned by Lachlan in the previous books but he was still hibernating at that point. Rhys is a protective, angry, and arrogant dragon shifter who falls for the enemy. I really liked him and his determination to avenge his sister. I really loved how he took care of Dallas and protected her. He makes sure she doesn’t forget to live and spend time with her friends while trying to find the evil witches. I just loved how caring he became towards her.

Dallas was a fascinating witch. I wish we could have seen more of her abilities because she was very powerful. She was a kind, generous, but protective woman. She has spent so much of her life alone that she doesn’t even realize how lonely she has been until she meets Rhys. I just adored these two.

My favorite thing about this book though, was Willow. Willow was an adorable baby dragon who just kept being adorable. I loved how she helped out on the farm and protected her family. She was just a perfect animal companion. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series, which I hope will be King and Aurora’s book.

Katie Reus knocks my socks off again with this latest installment of the Ancients Rising series!

Ancient Enemy employes one of my all-time favorite romance troupes where you challenge your perceptions and preconceived notions. Gah! Love it!

Rhys, an ancient dragon shifter and Lachlan's younger brother, has awakened from his slumber still hungry for revenge against the witch who killed his sister thousands of years ago. His hunt takes him to the rebuilding city of New Orleans and with the help of Lachlan's new connections finds himself entangled in a community and a woman that can help him finally achieve his centuries-long quest.

Dallas Kinley is used to hiding who and what she is. Her kind, witches, have been long hated in the supernatural world for their duplicitous and evil ways. But now, in an ever-changing world, she finds her particular brand of Earth magic in dire need. Charged by King, the alpha of the New Orleans territory, to help create new sustainable gardens and farming areas, Dallas and her baby dragon, Willow, must move into New Orleans proper to help. When humans and vampires start going missing, it soon becomes clear that Dallas is the only one the can stop whatever evil machinations have begun. Rhys wants to despise Dallas and all of her kind but soon can't deny the growing attraction and new protective instincts she and her pet baby dragon evoke.

I loved Willow! She was the cutest, but then I think everyone was enamored with her in the first meeting anyway. I loved how the author also worked in flipping the preconceived notions about natural dragons with her as well. Her interactions with everyone were pretty damn enchanting but particularly with Rhys were completely adorable.

There is a lot going on in this one. There are a few MPOV moments but they added so much to the story. The budding romance between King and Aurora was amazing. I really hope they get their own book and not just a continual background story... well, I guess if we get their singular POV snippets it may not be so bad. But I just want to know so much more about King.

Ancient Enemy was fun, action packed with just the right amount of steamy-times. I am seriously invested in this series. I cannot wait for Mikael and Avery’s book- Ancient Enforcer coming up next!!!

**Note to Author: Please, please, please write a book for King and Aurora. Please!**

Rhys is a broody and angry dragon shifter that came out of hibernation still bent on revenge. His sister was killed by a witch thousands of years ago and he is still determined to track her and get vengeance. He knows it could be a suicide mission, but feels it is his duty. And that brings him to New Orleans.

On a routine assistance mission for the Alpha of New Orleans, he crosses paths with Dallas. She is a witch that uses her magic for agriculture and also happens to be raising an orphaned dragonling named Willow. She is kind of a loner, untrusting, and used to being judged for what she is. They are thrown together on an assignment and the more time they spend together, the more an unexpected attachment grows between them.

When unusual dark witch activity happens in the city putting supernaturals and humans at risk, they end up in the middle of the fray. And Rhys finds himself very protective of Dallas and Willow. But Dallas has some secrets that could change everything and Rhys still has his own mission and has never planned his own possibility of a future...but he also is keeping a secret from her.

I fell for the sweet dragonling, Willow. I loved that Dallas is good-hearted but also strong and talented in her own right. And Rhys is protective, possessive, brave, and ready to fight for those he cares about. I loved seeing them work together and find a connection since both had the tendency to push people away before they could get hurt.

I am enjoying this mixed setting of New Orleans with all kinds of supernaturals. This brings back the side characters we met in Ancient Protector. This sets up some future stories and I am already really excited about the NOLA Alpha, King and hope he gets his own story in the future.

Ancient enemy is the second book in the Ancients Rising series. It's the story of Rhys, dragon brother of Lachlan of book 1, and Dallas a witch with an adorable dragonling Willow.

Rhys is out for revenge and in search of the witch who killed his sister. He's staying in New Orleans on Kings territory hoping to find clues there. He meets Dallas, who agrees to help him search for leads. Rhys hates all things witch but as he gets to know Dallas, he's falling for her.

There was love, action and the adorable Willow.

We also saw more of King and Aurora of whom I hope we'll get a story too (maybe even their own book, pretty please?)

I'm already looking forward to Avery and Mikaels book.

A big thank you to Netgalley and the author for granting me this ARC.

Wow! These stories just get better and better! Rhys has been on a mission for thousands of years. Searching for the witch that killed his sister. Dallas is a witch. What happens when the two of them meet will make ”sparks” fly? Hang on to your seat for a battle that only one can win!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own!

Ancient Enemy is Book Two in the Ancients Rising series by author Katie Reus. I'm so glad that this book added to the already wonderful world building by Ms Reus.

This book is thoroughly enjoyable to read with cute moments in the form of a baby dragon(Willow)! Introducing such character could have gone wrong but instead of being cheesy or tacky, I find Willow to be a charming and adorable. Hope to see more of Willow in future books.

I would categorize this story as enemies to lovers as Rhys has an immense dislikes of witches. It was a dark witch that killed his sister and he's seeking revenge. He is grumpy and a bit of a prejudice @$$hole, all he thinks about is vengeance. However meeting Dallas threw him off! He wanted to hate her on principle but he found himself intrigued and very attracted to her. I think Katie Reus created the perfect heroine in Dallas for Rhys. She's all things good, gentle and sweet. She is also very protected of Willow.

This is a fast read for me, I wasn't bored and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know more of the characters. Looking forward to reading more in the next book!

Thanks to NetGalley for the advance copy, the views above are all of my own.

A great follow up to book 1! I really adored the romance here. Rhys and Dallas were great together, and I so enjoyed watching their romance build. The plot was interesting and took some turns I didn't expect. The secondary characters are great, and I can't wait until they all get their own stories!! I am hoping King is next! Thoroughly enjoyable!

4.5 Stars!

If pet baby dragon doesn't grab your attention then you just aren't the right reader for this book! We know of ancient dragon shifter Rhys from book one. What we don't know and his brother and clan chief doesn't know, is that he has been out of hibernation for awhile now. He has been hunting his sister's killer and his trail has him ending up in the US in Louisiana. In his quest, he meets Dallas and her pet baby dragon. Rhys is growly and protective of his family and wants nothing to do with Dallas.

the two are thrown together and end up fighting on the same side. Rhys admits he was quick to judge all witches as the same. Dallas is his mate and when he turns all that growly behavior into protecting her---sparks fly.

Lots of action again in this second book of the series. We see familiar characters from book 1 but you could easily read this as a stand alone. Loved the ending! Can't wait to see who baby brother ends up with!

I would definitely read book 1 before reading this one but if necessary it could be read as a stand alone. I just think you would miss out on some back story and some of who the characters are that are met in the first book. That being said, dragon shifter Rhys (who is the brother of the dragon in the first book) has awoken from his hibernation still hungering for revenge against the witch who killed his sister. His hunt leads him to New Orleans, where he comes across a woman that he has an attraction to he can't explain. And she is a witch, people he hates beyond all reason. Dallas is beautiful, kind, and adorable with her pet dragon. Now he has to try to control not only his protective instincts when it comes to her but also confront that he may have been wrong about all witches being bad. Dallas is used to being hated for who and what she is. But when she is asked for help, she will help because it is the right thing to do. Even if it means she can't keep her distance from Rhys. But once he finds out her secret, will he still want to protect her? Or will she become the thing he hunts?

I absolutely loved this one!! I thought the first book would be hard to top but this one sucked me in right from the start and I loved Dallas! She is this woman who just naturally has a beautiful soul and isn't afraid to show it to people regardless of whether they treat her the same. I loved her! Her interactions not only with the other people in this book but just how she is with Willow just made me love her even more. Rhys definitely had good reasons for being the way he is but the fact that he could grow beyond it and realize that he was wrong and admit it? Loved it. The way he was with Dallas, and how much he truly cared about her and the people she cares about? Loved it! I can't say enough about this one! I even loved that I got to see some of the characters from the other series that this one is a spin off of! Made my day!! I can't wait to see where the next one takes us!!

Willow completely stole the show in this one. She was so adorable that even all the characters in the book couldn't get enough of her. I hope we see more of her in the upcoming books in the series.

Now that I have my love for Willow expressed, I really did love Dallas and Rhys, as well. Dragon shifters are my favorite shifters to read about. To me they seem to be the unicorn of the shifter world. I find that Katie Reus really does them justice.

Rhys is a bit grumpy and has a one track mind on vengeance, so I loved seeing how Dallas not only showed him there is more to life, but she was also was the road to give him closure. And Dallas? I loved her innate goodness. She could have easily become like the evil villain she was raised to be. Instead she never let the dark touch her.

I always love getting to see my favorite side characters again, as well as new characters. There is just a lot to love about this series.

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

This is the second book in this series, and we meet Dallas, a witch, and Rhys, a dragon shifter who hates witches. Ever since his sister was murdered by a witch, Rhys has hunted for the killer but never found her. Now, he has tracked the culprit to King's area and he meets Dallas who helps him.

There is always lots of drama, intrigue and romance as each couple moves through the steps to where they admit they have met their mate and the steps to overcome the problems that plague their relationship.

Again, I love that there are couples from previous books in this one and that we get hints of who the couple will be for the next book. It will be fun to see King and Aurora or Mikael and Avery when their book come out as we just see little bits of them throughout and it keeps you wanting more!!

This book is so good I had to go back and buy the first one in the series, I would love to live in a world with the supernatural out in the open. The author does a wonderful job of blending the action and romance and I can’t wait to get my hands on the rest of this series. I can’t wait to find out what happens next for king and the rest of New Orleans.

I received an arc from NetGalley for review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Dallas is a witch who no longer lives in a convent. She lives with her pet dragon Willow.
Rhys is a dragon who on the hunt for revenge, his sister was killed and bleed dry by a witch.
Dallas was written well and so was Rhys.

I don’t quite know what my expectations were for this book, but they didn’t fulfill them. I can’t put my finger on what was wrong for me. I absolutely love Willow and all her little cuteness. I did love how Rhys was made to feel like an idiot, putting all witches as the same one who killed his sister. When in truth Dallas is just Dallas.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for granting my request for an arc of this book. The review below is entirely my own opinion.

This is the second book in a new spinoff series set in the same world as the author’s Darkness series and the circumstances or setting picks up just about right where Ancient Protector (book 1, Lachlan and Star) ends. So though this book is about a separate couple, there are plot lines and scenes with certain characters that will be more meaningful if you read Ancient Protector beforehand. In fact, I’d highly recommend doing that first or you may get lost with all the characters you’ll meet/encounter if you jump in blind.

That being said, I LOVED this book a whole lot more than book 1 mainly because of one thing, one character —- Willow, Dallas’ pet dragonling. She stole my heart. ❤️❤️❤️ I mean Dallas and Rhys, the MC’s, were great too. But really... Willow gets all my love. 😍🥰

But what did I think about the story? Hahahaha. Oh! It was great too! No, really. I loved that though this story could’ve have taken an angsty turn (because of Rhys’s and Dallas’s backstories), it didn’t!!! There was lots of great action scenes and lots of chemistry between the MC’s. Everything flowed smoothly and the pacing of events was fast, which I like.

Furthermore, I loved the chapters and scenes with King and Aurora. I’ve had my eye on them since book 1 and after reading this one, I’m even more eager for *THEIR* book.

Lastly, this story sets things up nicely for book 3, which will center around Mikael and Avery, who also make an appearance in this one. That romance should be interesting too because Avery is a sweetheart and Mikael seems like this big grump. And that combination in MC’s personalities is a favorite of mine.

Ms. Reus has created a magical journey that is engaging and endearing. Rhys and Dallas are a fantastic couple who reel you in and make you root for them!

This was a really fun installment of an actiony, steamy series that always leaves me wanting the next book right away. The older the characters, the more fun we have with them adjusting to the new world and Rhys is no exception. I particularly enjoyed the witch heroine, Dallas, and her lovely pet dragon, who are joyful and powerful and just relatable, as much as a PNR character can be. I love coming back to this series, it’s such a nice escape. Recommend!

As always a hit from this author. As the second book in this series it's characters and storyline are interesting and winners that keep you excited about this book and their escapades. I, for one, cannot wait on the next book!

I read the first book in this series any really enjoyed it but I wasn't sure what to expect for this one since you really anything about either of these characters. Dallas has a farm on the outskirts of town, she is a "good witch" who just so happens to pet dragon. Rhys is a grumpy Dragon with one thing on his mind, seek revenge for the murder of his sister. Rhys ask Dallas to come to the city to help King with inner city gardens, not knowing that these to have a connection that was so unexpected.

I really enjoyed their story, Dallas was a strong female character with a very kind heart, Rhys is a warrior who has a mission but is willing to look past that and see whats in front of him. Willow is just amazing and should have her own story .
