A fast paced, captivating storyline. Full of unique characters and situations, and a plot line that flowed effortlessly, this was a book I thoroughly enjoyed.

I greatly enjoyed this book, thank you for giving me a preview copy. The plot was interesting and fast paced and I sympathised with the characters. This is the first novel I have read by this author but I hope it will not be the last!

This is a debut novel and an impressive one at that. I love a mystery thriller and have been able to read many thanks to Netgalley

I really enjoyed this.

I loved the writing - I found it cleverly written and engrossing - once started, I couldn't put down
I loved the way the characters are written and felt connected and invested in them

Really look forward to more from this author - well worth the 5 starts

An impressive debut novel, I am a big fan of legal dramas and this did not disappoint, It follows Alex, a recent Harvard Law graduate, who is beginning her career at a New York law firm and, working in M&A, gets sucked in to a world that finds her losing herself in order to succeed.

I loved this book - with experience of working in investment banking, in a male-dominated environment, many of the issues felt very real. Whilst there are times you do dislike the main character, Alex, and the choices she makes, I can sympathise if not always agree. Written by a lawyer, it feels all the more authentic - and the structure, seen through the phases of a failed merger, is incredibly clever.

I look forward to reading more by Erica Katz.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an advanced copy of this brilliant book. I thoroughly enjoyed it and could relate to a lot of what was happening, having worked on a busy trading floor in the City.

I shall look forward to this being available on Netflix in due course as it is definitely a good story for the screen.

Reason I gave it 4 stars is that, at times, Alex was very irritating and selfish and I thought the ending was a slightly disappointing – I was expecting something more explosive. Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t a bad ending and in no way spoils the book but it was just different to how I wanted it to end.

This was a fascinating story that felt especially relevant in the Me Too era. The main character faces a dilemma that many other women are forced to face in the workplace. Highly recommended!

Firstly got to say you can see why this has been optioned by ‘Netflix’, you can see the slick production in your mind as you read every page, it will be an instant TV success me thinks
Alex is a go getter and get she does as she starts at one, if not the, most successful NY law firm, she takes on everything and everyone and rises quickly through the ranks for someone so Junior....it is also a very male orientated arena and although she starts well soon the pressures get to her and as she takes on more work she takes on more alcohol, drugs and sex and less time at home with her partner Matt
The story progresses into the world of sexism and ‘the client gets what the client wants’ and she also starts an affair with one of the top partners, and here is where the book is different, she is not a wallflower, she wants as much as she can get, she plays ‘as hard as the men’ and enjoys it, she is not an unwilling victim in her lifestyle......until one night, everything goes nastily wrong and she is a victim, again differently though ( and am trying not to give too much away ) she doesnt weep and wail she does something about it, but then the books ends very differently to what I expected ( there is an ongoing Court Case that features throughout the book....)
Alex is shown as a fast player who fights back, a victim but not one who reacts in ways we would always expect
A hard book to put into words how it made me feel but it was enjoyable ( if thats the right word ) challenging and at times dark but also gave an unexpected look at some laws and lawyer terminology that was a bonus
It was interesting to have the victim as not some ‘feel sorry for character’ in fact at times it was totally the opposite, I also liked that not all the men were corrupt or corruptible
Very interesting read
I look forward to it on Netflix
10/10

I received a copy of this book via Netgalley to review. Thank you for the opportunity.
This book is intense with deep down hidden depths. The book takes you on a journey with Alex Vogel, the protagonist who starts work at Klasko law firm. The writing sharp and to the point. The pace is used effectively by the author to demonstrate Alex's lifestyle e.g. A fast pace is used to show Alex being drawn into the constant pressure of the law firm.
The descriptions are clear and crisp. Words are not wasted in this book, they are each chosen and used with great effectiveness.
I was pleased to see the book develop beyond what I believed it would be. It gives a interesting peek into the high powered cooperate world, which is stark in his extremity particularly in this post Covid world.
This book is a must read and its themes should be thought and acted upon.
I can see why it has been so popular and has interest from Netflix, its a great, page turner!

4.5 - Absolutely fantastic debut novel! I really loved this book about the seductive world of a prestigious Manhattan law firm. Great character development, engaging writing and some despicable characters.

I can’t wait for this to be developed by Netflix!

I was maybe expecting a more explosive ending but still thoroughly enjoyed this book.

A good debut novel by Erica Katz, the pseudonym of a New York lawyer, about a young, newly qualified, female associate’s experience in the fast paced world of mergers and acquisitions. Is it just ‘The Boys’ Club’ or can Alex break through into their world?
The Boys’ Club is a dangerous place to be, work hard, play hard, they make their own rules and you don’t complain if you don’t like the rules. The financial benefits and great, but are they worth it? Is playing by the rules of the club at great costs to one’s personal life and morality really worth the financial gains? Alex has to decide how far she has to go if she wants to become a member of The Boys’ Club.
Great debut novel, looking forward to the second book by Erica Katz.
