Wow! I very quickly became engaged and invested in this book and the characters and devoured this book within 2 days. Three sisters, all abducted together. We know early on that they came to no physical harm as the story flits between them as adults and as children as their abduction unfolds. However, they have mentally been changed for life. Full of dark revelations and red herrings, I was dying to know WHY them, WHY they were abducted, HOW did their relationship with their mother break down. Fast paced, twisted and intriguing. I would definitely recommend if you enjoy a psychological thriller! |
Three sisters disappeared twenty years ago and managed to escape.. The story is told from what happened twenty years ago when the sisters where bundled I to a van and and now when the sisters are troubled. Leah her marriage isn't what it seems. Marie drinks to forget Carly has not forgiven herself for not keeping her sisters safe. And when the person responsible is released from prison and Leah finds hand delivered notes on her doormat each morning up to the date of the anniversary Leah think he's coming back for them and to finally silence them. Great read. Thanks NetGalley |
Thanks to Netgalley and HQ for providing this arc in exchange for an honest review. Three sisters were kidnapped from nearby their home. Now the 20th anniversary is coming up and all three sisters are still dealing with issues from the kidnapping. This novel is told from the perspectives of the sisters and one sister’s husband in the present, which are mixed with chapters from the abduction and holding of the girls 20 years ago. I have read all and enjoyed most of this author’s novels but I am sorry to say I had a lot of trouble getting into this one. I don’t know why that is. I think I really don’t like hostage situations because people being held in a room is boring to me. While that was only part of the book, I think those chapters stopped me from getting interested in the present day story. By the time this one got crazy at around 75%, I just wasn’t that interested anymore. With that said, I will read more from this author. |
‘ The Stolen Sisters’ is the latest book by Louise Jensen and is currently only 99p on the Kindle Store, which is a must buy for fans of the author and fans of tense thrillers. Leah’s perfect marriage isn’t what it seems but the biggest lie of all is that she’s learned to live with what happened all those years ago.Marie drinks a bit too much to help her forget. And Carly has never forgiven herself for not keeping them safe. Twenty years ago The Sinclair Sisters were taken. But what came after their return was far worse. Can a family ever recover, especially when not everyone is telling the truth? The story is about the 3 sisters Carly, Leah and Marie Sinclair who one day are kidnapped from their house and spend the next couple of days keep captive in an old military base and were fed crisps and sweets to keep their energy going, before they finally escaped to freedom. Now, it’s the 20th anniversary of their kidnapping and the women are on edge especially when they begin to receive letters counting down to the actual day. The kidnapping received a lot of interest from the media and the girls became a national treasure. The story is written in the past and present sequences with the past scenes seen through Carly’s perspective and the present scenes are seen through Leah’s narrative. Carly is a typical teenager, desperate to hear from Dean, the boy that she likes and when she doesn’t hear from him, she takes her disappointment on her 8 year old twin sisters Marie and Leah. Snapping and being nasty to them, she makes them out go outside the house to retrieve their lost ball and this is when the kidnapping occurs. But during the kidnapping, she feels terrible for her behaviour and makes it her duty to get them to safety. 20 years after the kidnapping, it’s terribly sad to see how the events have effected the women’s lives. Carly leaves alone with the guilt that she could have prevented it all from happening, if she hadn’t horrible to the girls and looked after them properly. She punishes herself by not letting herself or anyone else get close to her. Leah is married with a little boy but her extreme OCD is ruining her relationship and she’s convinced that every person she sees is the kidnappers even though they are dead and Marie is battling a drink addiction. All 3 women were fun and happy girls and it’s so sad to read the kidnapping ruin their lives. The story flows between past and present tense in the alternating chapters and this keeps the reader on their toes with this snappy and fast paced thriller. As the days count down to the anniversary and Leah receives more letters, I was gripped by what was going to be revealed on the day and who was behind them. There are so many fractured relationships and characters in the story, that I found myself regularly wondering was it person or was it this person as the story progresses. One fascinating thing that I learned from reading this book was that Leah suffered from a rare condition called The Fregoli delusion or Fregoli syndrome. A rare disorder in which a person holds a delusional belief that different people are in fact a single person who changes appearance or is in disguise and this was why she was convinced that the kidnappers were following her. A cleverly crafted and twisted tale with drama and deceit riddled throughout, ‘The Stolen Sisters’ is a sad and traumatic tale that made for gripping reading with hook and reveal that left me chilled. You can buy ‘The Stolen Sisters’ from Amazon and is available to buy from good bookshops. |
I really enjoyed this book, well written with lost of twists and turns. The characters were believable and you were able to get into their minds. |
When we meet the Sinclair Sisters - Carly, Leah and Marie - they are fairly typical kids. However, they are about to undergo a traumatic experience, one that will shape them for the future. Carly resents being left to babysit her younger sisters, but her only thought is to protect them when they are abducted from outside their house. Told in split narrative we see that the girls survived their experience, and the story focuses on us learning how this has affected them. We follow them as they deal with both their past and present. The style of writing was absorbing, and there were plenty of hints about secrets being held - meaning plenty of chances to hypothesise and try to work out exactly what was being covered up. While some elements were quite obvious, there were one or two surprises that meant some parts of the story didn’t feel resolved until later. Thanks to NetGalley for giving me the chance to read this prior to publication. |
Unfortunately due to events beyond my control I haven’t been able to get to this book yet, but hopefully I will soon and add my review to Amazon, goodreads, and Instagram |
Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for providing me with a copy of this book! Twins Leah & Marie, and their older sister Carly were kidnapped 20 years ago. Yes, it's coming up to the anniversary and there is a lot of hype around it as usual, but even more so for this big one. And now the sisters are reliving their worst nightmare, each with a different story. This was the first book I've read by Louise Jensen and I don't think it will be the last. I was pretty much hooked from the beginning; the story itself jumped between then & now and it was all rather eerie, but heartbreaking at points too, just imagining what these three girls went through, are currently going through. It touched on a lot of issues that are prevalent in society today, including drugs, mental health and relationship issues. And the thing is, I could totally understand why the girls as victims of what they went through, would suffer. I think that's a sign of excellent writing. There were twists and turns right from the beginning - I'm usually good at guessing plot twists but there were some in here I just didn't consider! My only niggle with this was the jumping between characters/chapters where they only had half a page and then it moved on again - otherwise, a must read thriller for 2020! |
I'll definitely be in the minority with this one but I just didn't really enjoy it. The story is told from multiple POV's in the 'then' & 'now' format which worked well and added to the build up of the story and the suspense The idea has so much potential but I felt the overall execution to be lacking. I was left with too many unanswered questions, too many things weren't resolved and it was just a little too far fetched for my liking. I can't put my finger on it but it just didn't click with me and it's bothering me as to why, maybe it's just a 'it's not the book, its me' scenario. I was immediately drawn in but it then seemed to drag and take a long time to get anywhere and I never quite seemed to get fully immersed in the story. I'll definitely read more by the author but sadly this one just wasn't for me. Thanks to netgalley and HQ for the ARC. |

Wow! What can I say about this book other than I just could not put it down.. Each time I thought I'd figured out what was going to happen, there was yet another twist which literally made me gasp out loud. Absolutely loved this book and can highly recommend it. |
Three young sisters snatched off the street... Louise Jensen builds a gripping story which leads the reader in several directions before the circumstances are gradually revealed. I must admit that I never saw the eventual denoument coming! There are, for me, some aspects of the story telling that don't work so well. The author tells the tale from the viewpoint of each of the three girls at the time of their kidnapping and the present time, I appreciate that this is a feature of maintaining the tension and delaying the unveiling of the motive and the perpetrator(s) until pretty much the last page, and I can see the point of that, but it makes it a more difficult read. But that's a minor quibble about what has probably been the most unusual thriller of the year for me. A 'must read"! |
Wow! Louise’s books never fail to disappoint. What a read! I was hooked from the beginning & the whole story was engaging throughout. The way the settings were described made it feel so real. I don’t want to give too much away so I won’t say much more but if you love an intense, thrilling, easy read then this book is for you. It’s absolutely insane and it’s one you definitely need to read! Thank you to @hqstories for letting me take part on this blog tour I absolutely loved it! OUT NOW |
The Stolen Sisters by Louise Jensen is one of those books that’s incredibly difficult to review without giving away any spoilers. Told from multiple points of view, it tells the tale of three sisters who were kidnapped and held captive when they were children. Twenty years later and Carly, Leah and Marie are still trying to come to terms with the consequences of what happened to them all those years ago. Louise Jensen’s writing is superb as she takes the reader on a rollercoaster of a journey that cleverly pulls the strands of the story together piece by piece. The narrative moves between then and now, the story moving along at a cracking pace as the multiple character voices bring the tale vividly to life, making for a compelling read that once started I did not want to put down! The Stolen Sisters is a multilayered, atmospheric psychological thriller with a lot of heart. I became fully immersed in the story of the Sinclair sisters and what had happened to them, the story going in directions I never would have expected it to when I started it. The short, punchy chapters propel the narrative forward, the tension becoming almost unbearably palpable as the twists and turns race towards an ending I did not see coming. I don’t think any review I write could ever do this wonderful book justice. I love Louise Jensen’s writing and she has proved yet again why I consider her to be an author at the very top of her game. The Stolen Sisters is a superbly written, intricately plotted psychological thriller that I would highly recommend. |

This is the first book I’ve read by Louise Jensen and I was very impressed with it. The Stolen Sisters tells the story of 3 sisters who were abducted and changes perspectives between the girls and also flips from the time of the abduction to the present. I enjoyed it, I found the sub plots intriguing and well plotted. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an advance copy in return for an honest review. |
The Stolen Sisters is another fab psychological thriller by Louise Jensen who is one of my favourite thriller writers. I was looking forward to this one with excitement and trepidation due to the nature of the content within the story. Leah, Carly and Mariah Sinclair, know as the Sinclair sisters have been to hell and never really recovered. Twenty years ago they were abducted, held hostage in a dark, damp hovel of a room. Miraculously they managed to escape days later but escaped from that room they may have done but never in their heads. It has had a lasting effect on their lives ever since and as the book progresses the shocks and twists come aplenty. This was a good solid thriller that was set in the then and now so you got a better understanding of why the girls have ended up so damaged. Louise does not disappoint with this domestic thriller and can’t wait for her next. I would like to thank Netgalley and HQ for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review. |
Loved it, and from the start you see that 13 year old Carly and her 8 year old twin sisters, Marie and Leah are kidnapped, they all escape but nothing will ever be the same again. The book shows you how they all try get on with their lives and rebuild themselves from that awful nightmare. This is a fantastic book, the twists just keep coming and coming and seriously you’ll not put it down! Not read anything from the author but I’m off to fix that now, what a cracker of a book! |

I would firstly like to thank Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review. This is the second book that I have read from this author, and so far I am very impressed! While I did enjoy 'The Date' a tiny bit more, I still very much enjoyed this one. Tension-filled from the very beginning, Louise Jensen's clever writing slowly unravels a story of mystery, sisterhood, secrets and childhood trauma. A compelling read from start to finish! It didn't take me long to finish this book - it's a definite 'just one more chapter' type of read. I really struggled to put it down! I didn't massively like any of the characters but both Leah's and Carly's stories had my heart pounding! And ugh George... hated him! Overall, a read I would absolutely recommend. I can't wait to read the rest of this author's books! |
